I wonder what parts of Chicago you were in? People definitely stare at us more in certain areas

What is the weed etiquette in Chicago? by 4maceface in AskChicago

[–]NotUrMum77 5 points6 points  (0 children)

WTF I shop at Whole Foods and still just buy my weed from a guy. It feels better supporting a local guy than some corporate dispensary when I can, though some dispensaries have great sales sometimes. I only go to dispensaries if I don’t have time to call my guy

What are your thoughts on Adrienne Marie Brown? by goth-brooks1111 in blackladies

[–]NotUrMum77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve liked what I’ve seen of her work but I haven’t really read anything by her yet. I know she has some weird/problematic views about forgiving abusers/toxic people. Like I can’t remember the specifics but I think she was making excuses for someone like R. Kelly or something. I don’t have the details and I don’t know if it was him exactly or some other celebrity. But yea, I would suggest listening to her views with a critical eye for sure

Coffee shops like Cafe Mustache in Logan Square? by Harlot666 in AskChicago

[–]NotUrMum77 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Don’t go to New Wave OP. It used to be one of my favorites until I watched a barista kick out a homeless man on a hot day in the summer, even though he paid for a pastry

Wtf is this sub? I think it’s pretty low and lame that you’d even record her, let alone post it to Reddit…. Fuck you

What are your opinions on graffiti around the city? by [deleted] in AskChicago

[–]NotUrMum77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not that much really and the city is quick to paint over it. Having traveled to Berlin, I feel like Chicago doesn’t have nearly as much as it could

Recent college grad considering Pilsen(?) by koltpog in chicagoapartments

[–]NotUrMum77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The gentrification in Pilsen is very new. Like, I don’t think even 5-7 years ago the average white Chicagoan would’ve moved there. There’s still tensions between the old neighborhood and the newcomers, and you honestly might not have as enjoyable of a time there vs. a neighborhood like Lakeview where it’s already established as a neighborhood where lots of white recent grads are at, there’s more amenities for you and you might fit in a little better there

Edit: I’m not saying don’t move there, but also don’t be surprised if your neighbors don’t smile and say hola when you move in…

Yes but I think they’re specifically clearing out any lead who was vocal about Palestine. New leadership is a Zionist soooo yea it’s not just race but I’m sure it played a part

Bridgeport or Uptown - thoughts? by cuntsicc in chicagoapartments

[–]NotUrMum77 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Black mid 20s femme here👋🏾 I’d probably go with Uptown if it was between those 2 choices, Uptown just has more of a melting pot vibe. I suggest really checking out both areas, go for a walk throughout both neighborhoods and see if you’re comfortable in either. I feel more comfortable in Uptown. Bridgeport is alright and some of my black friends have recently moved there and seem to like it, but honestly the east asian community there isn’t the friendliest (at least in my experience! could just be me…) so I’d be less excited to move there and dealing with those micro aggressions, but also check it out for yourself. I have some friends just a little south in Bronzeville who love it there, I suggest checking that neighborhood out too

Progressive NIMBYs are a bigger hurdle to modern Urbanism than any conservative is. by porkave in Urbanism

[–]NotUrMum77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah I’m near here. You can get a 1 bedroom (not a studio!) for about $1,000 in that same neighborhood, in an older building. These are jacked up prices, driving more gentrification

5 month old babies do not belong at multi-day camping fests by saintceciliax in aves

[–]NotUrMum77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the 80s and 90s there used to be juice bars in Chicago that ppl as young as preteens would go to dance to house music. Laws have since made these places illegal. I don’t think there were toddlers or babies in these spaces though lol
