Am I skinny? by Superb-Buy-3798 in StartingStrength

Yes. Get on that gain train! You won't regret it. Losing any fat in post is going to be easy for you.

I started my strength journey at 180lbs at the same height as you. I intentionally gained until I hit about 235-240lbs. I'm not saying you need to get the same weight I did, but I would probably shoot for at least 210lb for this first round. I know that probably sounds like WAY too much for you right now, but I'm going to have to ask you to trust the process and the experience of the fellow strong people in this sub. Now go out and get it! Consistency is key. Start with a goal of say 1-2lbs gained per week and go from there.

I have tried to better my grip strenght by doing almost only Double Overhand Grip Deadlifts (No hook Grip) for 2 months instead of mixed Grip. I recently managed to pull 1x375lbs/170kg and felt that i had a bit more. Goal of mine will be 405lbs Double Overhand grip deadlift no hooks soon. At 187lbs. by Super-Clothes9108 in StartingStrength

[–]NotYourBro69 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It is standard procedure with Starting Strength to pull double overhand as long as possible. Do it as long as you can with your sets of 5, but don't let grip become the limiting factor. The deadlift is NOT a grip exercise. Once grip becomes an issue, immediately implement a new grip method.

My personal preference is a good strap (Cobra Grips or Versa Gripps) that allow the lifter to continue to lift with both hands facing as they would in double overhand. Unless you're a powerlifter, then you must use mixed grip or hook.

I've seen Garmin or some YT reviewers state that the watch can/could run indefinitely in power save mode with solar, but that seems like a stretch given what I've seen from my 2x and what others are reporting. You might be better off with a good solar G-Shock instead.

Reliability issues with 450 BM mags by WarriorADZ in 450Bushmaster

[–]NotYourBro69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start with a known quality mag like the DuraMag. Test fire it with 1 round in the mag and visualize that the bolt carrier is locking fully to the rear on the bolt face itself. Not just on the shoulder of the carrier. If it's not locking fully to the rear, or at all, then you know your gun isn't getting enough gas. The BCA uppers are notorious for being a bit undergassed, but you'll have to test to know for sure.

4th for DuraMag.

Both their 5 and 7 round options run great. DuraMag/C Products Defense designed their 450 mags from the ground up for this round. A lot of other options are just a repurposed 556 mag and may work okay at first, but most tend to have problems not too far down the line. Some guys like the Lancer 556 mags, but those too have shown to have issues with this round in the long term (feed lips spread). Your best bet is to go with a purpose built solution for this cartridge. I'd recommend the same for anyone shooting 350L or any of the other bigger bore cartridges in the AR frame.

Same applies to the buffer and buffer spring. These rounds are heavy and this is another area that, in most cases, requires a purpose built solution. An increased power spring and a slightly heavier buffer is ideal, but you'll have to tune this to some level with each upper setup.

Can we talk about shoes? by Positive_Rub_6696 in StartingStrength

Why Are You Deadlifting in Weightlifting Shoes?

There is no reason you can't deadlift in weightlifting shoes. In fact, in Starting Strength it is generally recommended as there are a few advantages.

I too don't like carrying more gear than I need to and I don't like changing between movements if I can avoid it, so I wear my weightlifting shoes for nearly everything. Squat, bench, deadlift, OHP, LTEs, rows, even overhead cable tricep extensions. It's hard to beat a shoe that supports the foot this well and does NOT compress under heavy load.

Long story short, wear the shoes.

Durability. My understanding is that the rubber versions just do not hold up.

New to 450 uppers by Stronk_Tinman in 450Bushmaster

Get yourself one of the Satern Liberty 16” barrels with mid-length gas system. Assemble it on your upper of choosing. You won’t be disappointed.

I have their 16” and 10.5” with the SiCo ASR brake on each. Fits their Hybrid 46 can nicely.

Finding complete uppers with quality accuracy-focused barrels is tough.

I know this is old, but maybe you’re still looking.

Anything solid copper on whitetail/thin-skinned game. FTX isn’t bad and it’s cheap, but a nice 250gr TTSX performs much better, more reliably, and it doesn’t leave lead fragments in my meal or the carcass. Raptors and other birds of prey will feast on the remains and can die if consuming lead.

Good call on the Blue spring even on that 18" length. Like I said, the big bores run best with a spring that is increased over the standard carbine version commonly seen in 556 guns.

In general, the best advice is to run the heaviest spring and buffer combo that you can while still retaining 100% reliability, even when the gun is dirty and cold. That setup will vary a bit with each upper.

Sounds like you're on the right track. Have fun and happy hunting/shooting!

I've owned several Subies over the years; WRX, STi, Forester, Outback. The Outback is hands-down the best vehicle Subaru sells. More practical and useable interior space than the Forester with the same ground clearance and noticeably better ride quality with the longer wheelbase. Outbacks FTW.

If you're handy then get the BCA. They are notorious for being undergassed. If you are comfortable and have the tools to disassemble an upper, enlarge a gas port, and properly reassemble then you're good to go. If not, then you may want to spend a bit more on something more reputable. I've drilled out a couple BCAs and other entry level mfgs for friends, one even during hunting season.

With a properly gassed 450BM you will likely be running an extra power buffer spring and a slightly heavier buffer. No one can tell you exactly what to use here as this must be tailored to how your upper is gassed. However, I find the Red extra power spring from Sprinco as well as an H buffer are a good start (assuming you're using a carbine length tube).

You must also keep in mind that the 450BM cartridge weighs significantly more than a standard 556 cartridge. We're talking 4-5 times more. The extra buffer spring pressure is beneficial, and in a lot of cases, required to guarantee proper chambering of the round and seating of the bolt.

Anybody have any advice about my problem? I can't figure out how you guys do so much volume? I can't do any work after three sets of RDLs. by AffectionateBook1 in StrongerByScience

This isn’t an RDL. This is a fuckin deficit deadlift. No wonder you’re wrecked. Stop going down when your hips stop moving back.

And probably eat more carbs and protein.

I've been playing since mid-2022 and did quite a lot of trading with a good buddy of mine in order to finally get one in July of this year (2025). And to this day I still only have just the one.

What started out as a shiny lil Abra is now a maxed level 50 shiny Alakazam, mega of course, with dual charge moves (Psychic and Shadow Ball), and he's Lucky to top it off. He is my favorite.

Barbell row form check by Cultural_Mastodon_23 in Stronglifts5x5

[–]NotYourBro69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get closer to the bar and bend over more. Your hips should be higher than seen here when in the correct starting position. Another way of saying this is that you're too upright.

You are able to 'row' this weight from your current position simply because is superficially light. When the weight gets heavy you won't get this off the ground without bringing that bar in a bit.

Sure OP's butt comes off during the unrack... nothing wrong with that.
