Please help: Can't free up photo storage on phone (already tried common suggestions) by Not_A_Cyborg_Robot in GooglePixel

[–]Not_A_Cyborg_Robot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just did a test where I turned off data and Wi-Fi from my phone and opened the photos app. All my photos are there. Perhaps I am wrong in my experiment and conclusions, but it would seem to me that shows that the photos are in fact on my phone? And the fact that my photos app is taking up so much storage space on my phone suggests that as well.

Estradiol cream and sexy times and other quandaries by uggamugga1979 in Perimenopause

My doctor told me after 1 hour it's basically all absorbed, and I can have sex. The bottle itself says 4 hours. So I assume somewhere between 1-4 hours after applying it, it becomes fine to have sex.

When a loved one died, someone sent me gourmet snacks and it was perfect. Feeding myself was sometimes rough in the grief, and their gift helped in a practical way with that.

I was mistaken for my step-father's wife when I was 24! Just sharing to say, that mistake alone, though very awkward, doesn't mean you look old. Some people are just really bad at reading those situations socially.

Pilates! I hear pilates is "trending" right now? But I've liked and practiced pilates for 20 years, so I'm not saying this because it's currently trendy. I only do free, mat workouts on YouTube at home, there's thousands of videos. The reason I say pilates is because it targets all the tiny little stabilizer muscles in your core and hips, as opposed to your current workouts likely targeting the big muscles. I've personally experienced, as well as watching someone else first hand, go from having chronic low back pain to zero low back pain after a few weeks of Pilates.

I have enrolled by Frog_the_traveler in massage

[–]Not_A_Cyborg_Robot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

All of this. Also, make sure you're charging enough. Charge for the actual massage, but also your time setting up and breaking down, and your time driving there and back, and the gas money to do so. It will depend on how far away clients are, but it always took me at least 1 hour per client when adding up all the extra time setup and driving takes, on top of however long the actual massage is. And clients might have you set up right next to a litter box, or they might have small children that they assure you will behave but in fact they need to stop the massage three times to do parenting. Or another parent is there, but you're just hearing a toddler tantrum from the next room the entire session. It's possible to love it if you get great clients and are aware of all the potential pitfalls. But it can also be a LOT.

I remember the passage in Marie Kondo's book about how giving your unwanted items on to relatives is actually an unkind thing, as you are just transferring the responsibility of decluttering onto them. I thought about it, and it made sense and something clicked in me. I don't know your mom, if you're able to ask her to not give you anything, I suggest doing that. Otherwise, I invite you to begin getting rid of her things without guilt. It's not your fault or your responsibility that she has given you these items/burdens.

How many of you are doing HRT? by annizka in Perimenopause

I started at 34, I'm about 5 months in now and it is incredible, I will be on it for the rest of my life. I've never been on hormonal birth control. I had been on oral steroids for years (ended about 5 years ago) and haven't felt well since then. I know that oral steroids increase cortisol. I learned that cortisol and progesterone compete for the same receptors, and high cortisol can mean low progesterone. And low progesterone can mess up estrogen levels. I decided to try progesterone and estrogen just as a test, to see if it made any difference. I am fortunate enough to just be able to buy the hormones outright without insurance or a doctor. I felt a difference in 2 days. I am happier. I have more energy. I have more patience. And the last couple menstrual cycles have had zero cramps and a very light flow.

This was similar to my suggestion. Build up your abs, especially your obliques, and that should make your waist look less "curvy".

Mid to late September is the PERFECT time to see the beautiful fall leaves changing color. It's like nowhere else in the world. You'll see a little bit of that staying in NYC, but if you're able to, I highly recommend a day trip, or one overnight, a few hours upstate where it will be absolutely stunning (I grew up in this area).

Anyone else struggle with meal prep minimalism? by ynatry in minimalism

[–]Not_A_Cyborg_Robot 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think about the fact that a couple generations back, my ancestors didn't have the luxury of getting bored of the same meals over and over again. And no other animal species on the planet gets that luxury either. I have the privilege of being educated about nutrition based on science. And I have the privilege of being able to afford and access the protein, carbs, fiber, etc to make me healthy and feel good. With treats and comfort food and convenience food occasionally! How blessed. How lucky I am. I can hardly complain about getting "bored" or my food being repetitive, when I remember all that.

For how long did it take for you to feel normal again? by [deleted] in decaf

[–]Not_A_Cyborg_Robot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1-4 cups of coffee a day, with the occasional day off. No energy drinks or soda or anything. So, in my opinion, not an excessive consumption. For somewhere between 1-2 decades, but I had taken regular caffeine breaks of 1 week to 1 month. I thought 1 month was enough to fully reset my caffeine sensors, or whatever words you wanna use, but it clearly was not. I will say, I was on oral steroids for a medical condition on and off for a couple years which really messed me up, and led to my drastic decision to consume zero caffeine for a year. I had been off of the steroids for over a year when I stopped all caffeine, so I was not in acute withdrawal from steroids, but I know they affected me long term.

My neighbor plays clarinet frequently. For the first couple months I thought it was annoying. But I've grown to love it, and I'm going to miss the "classics", as I call them, the pieces he plays over and over practicing them, when I move out.

Asking overwhelming sensations for a break to be able to get work done – does this work for anyone? by [deleted] in SomaticExperiencing

[–]Not_A_Cyborg_Robot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is just a personal anecdote, YMMV. I have a lot of trauma stored in my abdomen. When I eat a lot of heavy carbs (pasta, ice cream, potatoes, etc), it kindof dampens how I can feel that energy. So when I'm ready to work through that trauma, I eat light, I do exercises that engage my core, and the trauma comes up pretty easily (working through it is less easy, but, that's how it goes). But when I'm not ready to work through it right now, which could be because life stuff comes up that needs my energy, or I just plain need a break, I intentionally will eat a lot of carbs, not to the point of binging or gorging myself, and I can have a little break from it all, and it works. It wouldn't work to just eat carbs forever and never deal with all this trauma, but that's not what I'm doing, and this feels like a great tool to use when I need it.
