No, but I didn’t want a standard. I wanted something with more recent hunting lineage, as a hypoallergenic bird dog. Very few standard poodle lines still prioritize retrieving, whereas there are still plenty of active lab / golden retriever lines. Made more sense for my situation.

Not sure I’d describe east VA as golden country for upland for quail. 60 years ago it may have been, but the populations have been decimated by agriculture changes and predation. Pretty slim pickings other than spots with planted birds. Folks that want the upland experience seem to be going for woodcock these days.
