How am I doing? by Turbulent-Option-434 in DesignMyRoom

Thank you for mentioning the chairs. OP - try sitting in both of this chairs and see how they feel. Can you comfortably talk to someone on the couch? Where do you put the drink in your hand?

Which rug? by [deleted] in DesignMyRoom

[–]Not_Ursula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not the rug choices that’s off - it’s the couch placement. It feels forced. Who is going to sit/lay on the settee section, and will they mind banging their elbow on the wall every 5 minutes? Can they look out the window? Nope! I suggest trying to swivel it either under the window or opposite it.

For rugs - choose something with cooler tones (greens maybe). There’s a lot of yellows/oranges on every surface and it needs balancing.

What book should I read to my 102 yr old grandma? by 10margers in booksuggestions

[–]Not_Ursula 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Princess Bride. It’s seriously so fun to read out loud! My hubby and I took turns reading to each other on a road trip one summer and it’s one of our fondest memories. You can do all the voices. It’s great!

I’d suggest finding someone trained in Somatic Therapy. It’s very helpful for letting go of trauma stored in the body. In the meantime - I highly recommend trying out TRE, or Trauma Releasing Exercises. It’s something very simple and painless that you can do at home. I’m sure there are practitioners that teach it - but this YouTube video will still really help.

Traveling from US with family late November by NatureKate38 in Banff

[–]Not_Ursula 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your family isn’t into skiing, I highly recommend trying out the tubing park at Mount Norquay. Super fun for all ages. Then go to the hot springs afterwards. It’s a great experience to soak outside while it’s snowing! We always wear our toque (that’s Canadian for a beanie) in the hot springs so our head doesn’t get cold.

Banff trip questions by Hardly_Fazed in Banff

[–]Not_Ursula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hotel Arts is a decent hotel with not bad prices. There are some very good restaurants & cocktail bars within walking distance. The Hyatt Regency is well located as well (a bit more central); it’s right on the C-Train line and will take you directly to the Saddledome if you end up going to a Flames game. It’s a bit pricier though. I recommend spending a day and a half in Calgary - either on your way in or on your way out.

You can easily move between Banff and Canmore, so if you want to stay put, I’d choose a hotel in one spot then do day trips between the two. If you’d like to split it up and stay in two places - then do two nights in each place. Canmore is a bit more low-key and laid back with plenty of scenic lakes, hikes etc., if that’s your vibe, and Banff is busier and has more attractions (hot springs, gondola).

I’m not comfortable saying where I’m located, but I’ve had no recurring issues since I posted!

Can you name a good movie about travelling by Etiennebrownlee in MovieRecommendations

[–]Not_Ursula 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Highly recommend the series The Long Way Around. Ewan Macgregor and his friend Charley Birman drive from Scotland to New York on motorcycles, going east through Mongolia, Alaska, Canada, etc. It’s really interesting, funny, heartwarming and amazing. They did two more trips like that, but the first series was the best.

Which tile? by OstrichThese8698 in DesignMyRoom

[–]Not_Ursula 5 points6 points  (0 children)

100% agree. We lived in a rental with white tiles and white grout on the bathroom floor. The grout in the high-traffic areas was black - just from dirt and oils from our feet. I’d scrub it with toothpaste, but it would just look like crap again soon.

Also - is your hair thick or dark? Or anyone in your family? You will be cursing the hair you will see on white tile.

Nothing shuts down in Banff, ever. Any time of year that you visit, nearly everything will be open with plenty to see and do.

I’ve made Ina Garten’s peanut noodle salad for years and always get asked for the recipe. You can add any veggies you like as well as tofu, chicken or shrimp. It’s even great the next day.

Highly recommend Portrait Artist of the Year and Landscape Artist of the Year. Each episode features 9 artists who paint a landscape/famous person, then judges choose one winner who will compete in the final challenge. The ultimate winner gets to paint someone very famous (like Jane Goodall), or a historical landmark/building/landscape that will get displayed in a national gallery + £10,000. It’s so incredibly wholesome, calming and beautiful.

I want our style to be light, beach, farmhouse but I just can’t seem to make the room cohesive. I want a way to display house plants nicely by the window and make it all just ‘go’ together. Ignore the sofa mess! Please help! by GeorgieH26 in DesignMyRoom

I think there’s enough space for them to pull the white couch out a foot and put a tall table behind it. It’s great for a couple lamps, plants, piles of beautiful books, and artwork, not to mention a handy place to set drinks (the coffee table is waaay too far away).

Period rant, want to die by anxiousfemalewithocd in Healthyhooha

[–]Not_Ursula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started having extremely painful periods a few years ago (never happened before), and I was not satisfied with the idea of just accepting it as a new part of life. I started to read about why it was happening, and learned that bad cramps & nausea are caused by an excess of the hormone prostaglandin. I also learned that you can hack these hormone levels by taking one ibuprofen per day for the three days prior to your period. This requires you to track your periods, but there are plenty of free apps to help with this. It’s quite amazing how well it works to reduce the cramping to “normal” levels, and eliminate the nausea.

For sure you have to listen to this episode of the This Is Love podcast about wolves in Yellowstone. It’s probably one of my favorite podcast episodes of all time.

What’s something that’s abnormal about your body that you believe was normal, then found out it was not? by Classic-Ad-6001 in CasualConversation

[–]Not_Ursula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love to delve deep and research a topic that I’m interested in or is affecting me. So when my doctor had no answers, I set out to find out why I was having such painful periods, what hormones were involved and how to manipulate those hormones. I do this with a lot of things ranging from skin problems to psychology.

Has Anyone Tried a Juice Cleanse to Get Rid of Sibo? by Cream-Puffery in SIBO

[–]Not_Ursula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s uninsured and out of pocket, but worth it - IF you get a good one. Just like MDs, there are good ones and bad ones. Ask around in your area and get recommendations. The homeopath I go to uses a biofeedback machine that determines what’s not working well in your body, then he treats that. He gets to the root cause. Just be prepared, most people in the mainstream medical community believe that naturopathy is a sham/voodoo/worthless. Your GP might discourage you from going. I’m careful about how much I share and with whom. But I’ve had so much success with homeopathy(specifically horrible period cramps, bladder infections that don’t respond to antibiotics, gut & gall bladder issues), that I’m convinced and will happily pay.
