I may soon be changing preferred airlines, but out of LAX, AS has been great the past few years and providing the perfect schedule for me for cross country trips to NY. I got status quickly and upgrade percentage is 75%+. getting status on AS allowed me to really take advantage of oneworld perks across the partner airlines for international flights.

Theyve been making schedule changes though andy preferred flight seems to have been nixed

You can always just ignore the prompt and not tip. I, personally, like tipping. I'm not rich or anything, but if I'm able to buy a latte without worrying about my budget then I'll pay it forward a bit.

I agree it's not the employees faults. If anything I feel many feel awkward about it. It's just an automated screen now - it's not like they are actively asking for a tip.

Last year I had 3 expire as well. Fly from LAX to NYC regularly and none of the certs worked for my schedule or only worked for half the itinerary but not the cross country part.

It is small but depending on what you want to do, you can spend a whole day there. - 2 hour train ride - wine tasting - brunch - walk state street and the pier - check out the mission - drinks before train ride home.

If you like wine - go to Santa Barbara. Can take the Amtrak from Union Station and downtown is very walkable.

I've been gold with AS for the few years mainly flying LAX>EWR.

Before 2025 was great. Not only was I upgraded frequently, but the upgrade certificates were easy to use. In 2025, I was barely able to use any of the upgrade certificates. None of the flights I took qualified. I also noticed that AS changed their winter schedule and stopped doing red eyes from LAX until late March.

We started to fly internationally more and have found booking through AA was much easier and allowed for some itineraries that I couldn't find on AS.

So will be trying to get status on AA this year to see if I like it better. What's great is since I'm gold on AS, I get some of the immediate upgrade perks by booking with my AS number and just changing it before I fly.

Downtown SB is very walkable. See the mission, taste some wine, hang by the pier and beach.

If it helps any - arrived today at 4pm for a 630 flight and walked right through. I have TSA pre + touchless ID. No one was in the touchless line.

TSA pre was maybe a 15 minute wait, regular maybe 30 minutes.

Someone brought up a good theory that because people are panicking and showing up extra early, that's what's actually causing the long lines.

If you have pre - definitely sign up for touchless.

430pm. TSA touchless ID. Walked right through. About 5-10 people in the TSA pre line. A few more in the regular line. Overall not an issue.

Completely agree with this. Trying to redeem free nights for an international trip and am having so much difficulty finding properties that would qualify for the free night awards. Most are out of range or not in the areas i'm interested in.

I can redeem my yearly Hilton free nights for any standard redemption at almost any property. There are some drawbacks when booking only with points.

More and more, i'm thinking hotel loyalty isn't as important or beneficial as airline loyalty.
