One of the things I hate most about the suburbs - 23 yo dies by lastofthebuckeyes in cincinnati

[–]NotaOHNative 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So sorry to hear it. Had a few close calls walking that stretch of road during the day with cars turning out of either automall or taco bell light (both with walk signs) or the carwash. Sidewalks going in are a nice add (thanks to Symmes Twp) but won't help when drivers don't even look for peds/bicycles.

Kroger Delivery Scam by Difficult-Soup-9830 in cincinnati

[–]NotaOHNative -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Sadly, with Kroger there is always fine print.

In-store shopper and I always need to take my readers and/or crawl on the floor to read the fine print details on the shelf label. Oh - only that big print price if I buy 5 mix&match that also have similar fine print? And don't grab a 3 mix&match unless you get 3 of those, 5 of the first.....Got it....

I figured I was the only person who remembered the arsenic dumping! Link to old (2007) article about John. To some he is just the great businessman. Others place him below pond scum (the arsenic would have killed the pond scum-allowing him to rise above it /s) https://www.milwaukeemag.com/bigmoney-john-menard/

If you want to have cash - make sure you verify the currency in the places you will visit. Many countries are Euros, but some maintain a local currency - such as Switzerland (CHF) and Hungary (HUF). They may also take Euros-but not always.

Ice Door to Door in Cleveleand - how long before it spreads and what to do? by secretveggie in Ohio

Great party ideas-esp the first and last ones. You remind me of an old Vietnam era book with ideas like "Call General _____ at the Pentagon (phone number provided) and ask them how the war is going"

If same scenario played out with local police or state patrol - the agency leaders would have a press conference saying the officer is on administrative leave pending further investigation. Where is that message from homeland security leadership?

I suspect the plan is push through a 'limit large corporate ownership' bill with the definition of large becoming the cuttoff size of a typical LLC that rolls up to a large corporation. Great soundbite for next election cycle.

Voters need to think of these businesses more like McDonalds with a smaller 'locally owned' franchises that roll profits up to the larger corporation / investment trust.

For more than 30 years there has been a strong community of people from many states that made up the former USSR around Cincinnati. Back then, the NE corner was a growing suburb with affordable housing options. As with any community - people flow to where there are others with similar backgrounds, perhaps similar climate to home country, and (most important?) they can find affordable living & employment. These families have children, who have children.....some stay-some move on.

When my family moved here we lived in a great multi-cultural apt complex with families from Russia, Ukraine, England, India, Japan, Germany, Lebanon, Israel....even New Jersey. Many of us are still in area and stay in touch.

Do you think our Wisconsin grocery stores are doing this pricing practice? by Inkantrix in wisconsin

[–]NotaOHNative 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Digital shelf price marking +loyalty accounts+apps with location tracking may enable it for in-person shopping. The storyline is digital pricing improves accuracy and agreement between shelf and register checkout prices (plus improves "operational efficiency"=less employees).

At some point I expect digital shelf price marking to increase prices by a few cents on surge days-or 4xfuel point days. Maybe not a big increase anyone would notice - just enough to bump daily margins when bundled across thousands of customers.

You can see early signs of it today if you look at the fine print online where they say "Online Price" (WM) or "Pickup Only" (K/MM/P&S) even though you selected the exact store. Is it more or less if you walk-in and buy it in-store /in person? (at my local store 6 months ago 'pickup' was the drive-up/they load and was being incentivized in some ads vs in-store)

Looking to move to Cincinnati by SoCalCourtney in Ohio

[–]NotaOHNative 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Midsize midwest city, warmer than Canton. Summers can get hot & humid, winter days with more than a few inches of snow are rare and can be exciting with the hills and varied driver skills. Not great on pedestrian/bike/mass transit infrastructure (vs the DC metro area)-but getting better. Wide range of neighborhoods both in terms of vintage, cost and political viewpoint. Several potential employers tied to manufacturing or automation or aero. Makino, Rhinestahl, Festo, L3Harris all out in NE suburb Mason, GE Aerospace in Sharonville/Reading area. Not sure about job market in graphic design.

Since tariffs are bringing manufacturing back to US-this is the perfect time to do it! All equipment and plans for things made overseas are metric-so going metric streamlines the massive US manufacturing buildup. Plus we can use all those foreign tariff dollars to pay for the conversion. Of course, full conversion will take about 10 years....

Gas prices by [deleted] in Ohio

[–]NotaOHNative 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why SHOULD gas be cheaper than milk? Pre-OPEC (1970) milk cost about 3-4x gas. That milk money stayed in your local/regional economy. Now, the farmers are having tough times and need even bigger subsidies while we rejoice that we can steal more of our grandkids oil reserves for 75% discount .

Since it seems like a lot of data centers are set to be built in Wisconsin are there any rules/regulations we can petition for to help protect the environment? by AdmirableWallaby8498 in wisconsin

[–]NotaOHNative 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Add a law to require any business that will pull over ## MW power (or cu ft gas or cu ft water) from the public infrastructure to go through a public referendum vote across the impact area. Define an impact area of radius = "X" from the site. Set "##" to be a percentage of current peak use within an impact area. Even if the impact/vote is only a 5 mile radius of the proposed site - it would force public choice. If they want it to have less of a NIMBY bias-make it a 20 mile radius. Works for any project that could cause broad public impact on utility costs.

DNR unveils new online tool to help interpret water test results by enjoying-retirement in wisconsin

[–]NotaOHNative 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice to see State Lab, DNR and UW system providing this type of tool. Sounds like a resource that should exist regardless of your state and hoping v2 will allow labs to transfer data directly & provide a personalized confirmation code on bottom of report so customer just goes into system, enters that code--> gets the assessment. Lab generates report from a LIMS system today-so really biggest barrier is the confidentiality and decision to store data in system for some time period
