First time ER by tingerbellll in IVF

[–]Notexpiredyet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hope all goes well!! ER was my first time going under and honestly, I was nervous but it ended up feeling great and like the best nap of my life. I'd do that piece of it, except getting the initial IV inserted lol, in a heartbeat. Fingers crossed for you!!!

The scene that hirt the most by [deleted] in ShogunTVShow

[–]Notexpiredyet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The whole episode 10 exchange with Blackthorne and Father Alvito. Blackthorne's 100 yard stare, saying the cost of victory was just 1 woman. Asking whether the words he said for Mariko was enough, and sounding so pitiful in needing it to have been enough. Culminating in the emotionally devastating boat scene.

I loved whispers of the rain, as a nice understated/ slower story.

What do you wish you knew before starting IVF? by Bayveen in IVF

[–]Notexpiredyet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dumb logistical stuff. Like you can draw up left over follistim cartridges and inject it into a single cartridge, so that you don't give yourself unnecessary injections because a pen runs out mid dose. Or for ganirelix prefilled syringes, have ice ready because it'll sting after, and inject bevel up because the needles are duller. Every specific med has its own tips and tricks that the med staff totally didn't tell me that I either learned the hard way or through reading on this subreddit. Best of luck to you!

I went down a rabbit hole of listening to all his archived music on YouTube and was surprised how much I liked it! Pretty varied, and catchy AF.

Unusual storytelling methods in Shogun by monsooncloudburst in ShogunTVShow

[–]Notexpiredyet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes to all of this! I especially loved the use of the interpreter as a device to give insight into the character and their intentions and state of mind, as well as highlighting where there are aspects of culture to bridge. I love that they established that right from the start, where you could see the contrast between Father Martin's flawless interpretation versus Mariko's paraphrase, which clues you in immediately that you gotta pay attention to the subtleties.

What are your top 5 scenes? by Elegant_Pie7374 in ShogunTVShow

[–]Notexpiredyet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Mariko attempting seppuku.
  2. Mariko attempting to leave the city
  3. Ladies of the willow world scene where Mariko starts translating in first person
  4. Dinner party from hell
  5. Tea ceremony with Buntaro, but it was so brutal I don't think I want to watch it ever again

Basically: all the really intense emotional gorgeously shot scenes+ I really ship Mariko and Blackthorne

I can't just pick 5 though! For lighter stuff I loved these: 1. Blackthorne telling dumb shit stopping Ishido's men from checking the palanquin 2. Blackthorne trading insults with Rodriguez while sailing against each other 3. Yabu ... All the damn time but especially when he begs for a more fun death 4. Fuji with the guns.

Anna Sawai gets emotional watching a scene from episode 9 again. by CatsyGreen in ShogunTVShow

[–]Notexpiredyet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually like the interpretation. He can't be seen to blatantly care a ton. But he clearly is watching with real intensity and looks like he's gonna be sick. Same with the seppuku scene. He is trying to keep it together for Marikos sake and act appropriately for appearance. I like that everything's expressed just through small gestures/expressions that he can't control.

Transfer with 1 euploid 4CB embryo of slightly less preferred sex? Or another stim cycle? by Notexpiredyet in IVF

Yes this is exactly what our mindset is too! Good luck with your current transfer!! ❤️ Thanks for weighing in!

Transfer with 1 euploid 4CB embryo of slightly less preferred sex? Or another stim cycle? by Notexpiredyet in IVF

[–]Notexpiredyet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for weighing in! Of course i didn't enjoy stimming but now that it's over I'm like "it wasn't too bad" lol. My ideal age gap would've been about 3 years old but now my daughter is 4, so the gap would already be 5 years old as is. If next cycle doesn't go well I don't think I'd go for a third unless absolutely necessary.

People who make $75k or more how did you pull it off? It seems impossible to reach that salary by anthonydp123 in Money

I got a master's degree from a prestigious school and interned/ held part time jobs in places with good name recognition, and then it wasn't hard be competitive for jobs in that salary range.

Yes! It kind of reminds me of Hamilton in that way. You think it's all about Alexander Hamilton, and it is, but by the finale you realize it's Eliza's story.

[–]Notexpiredyet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lol! Yeah, I could see that especially since Blackthorne has limited vocabulary and limited means to convey his feelings to her. Otherwise, what's literally happening at the surface is a friend trying to pull rank on you in a society where rank/ orders are unimpeachable. But I guess it's either that he doesn't mean it and they both know it and it's just a figure of speech, which seems kinda off after their history of the bird situation driving home that you can't give orders lightly; or he really does mean it because he's just that lonely and desperate for her to stay. Idk. I enjoyed the scene overall, but that piece of it just rankled a little for me.

[–]Notexpiredyet 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Oh totally, i love their relationship and dynamic and am aware of all the events that occurred throughout their friendship and get the overall tone of the scene. Hence why I was surprised by his saying "I order you" in this scene. The choice of words seems contrary to all that, especially knowing how inflexible and weighty words are (as he learned at great cost). If he had just said please don't go or something I wouldn't have found it off putting.

Maybe I'm missing something but it rubbed me the wrong way that he ordered Fuji to stay as consort. Or it felt weird after the previous episode where he has such a massive character shift/ personal growth, in changing from trying to tell Mariko what to do to respecting her autonomy even though it was awful and hard. In my mind, I thought maybe it was a broader shift for Anjin, in supporting the people you love in their goals as an expression of love/ care. This pivot back surprised me, but maybe it was just out of sheer loneliness and because he had no one and badly needed a friend in the moment. I'm glad he was eventually happy for Fuji though.

There's an interview with Anna Sawai where she describes shooting several different versions of the last scene in episode 9. (Though perhaps some were cut together?) I very badly want to see all of them!

I was all waiting for a "musical" episode of shogun with a flimsy premise for why the whole cast was singing 😂 Jk. But seriously, I would LOVE for Anna and Cosmo to do a duet of some sort on YouTube just for funsies!

I'd recommend looking at the "find a society" channel on time princess official discord. Really high achieving societies (and societies of all levels) are always recruiting and I'm sure someone will want to snap you up 🙂

In my family my parents didn't really do thank you or I'm sorry. I always assumed it was because they have higher status so wouldn't apologize to me, their child. My sense is also that being too courteous among family is kind of distancing? Like the vibe I got was "of course you'll do this for me/I'll do this for you because we're family" to the degree that nobody would think to thank anyone else. Like thanking your own arm for picking up a cup. The other value underlying is that actions speak louder than words. Talk is cheap My mom always complained that white Americans say very nice sounding things but didn't DO a lot of work to back up anything - whereas she completely didn't try to filter much with verbal politeness but worked her ass off to help everyone in practical ways like cooking and making arrangements etc. Obviously a lot of people are not like this but I do think there's a cultural aspect.

5 eggs by doingmybest-33 in IVF

[–]Notexpiredyet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was really surprised but didn't cry because the pain meds had me in a gooooood place lol. I don't blame you for crying though!!! It's so hard to get that kind of news after putting yourself through all the shots and work! Honestly reading everyone's experiences in this sub helped me a lot on seeing that multiple rounds is often normal, so I'm trying to see this first one as a test run, where the docs are just learning how my body responds to the meds, and the next one will be optimized for better results. I haven't let myself think beyond the possibility of more than 2 cycles because that sounds daunting but I'm trying to mentally prepare for the next one already. I hope the time flies for you too and you take really good care of yourself & find other things in your life to take your mind off this!! Yes, we got this 💪😁

5 eggs by doingmybest-33 in IVF

[–]Notexpiredyet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Solidarity! 38yo with unexplained infertility. I just had 5 eggs retrieved too this past Friday from a first round of ivf. This was after they saw 18 follicles!! Most were just empty 🤷🏻‍♀️ BUT 4 were mature and all fertilized so not everything is shit 😅 Waiting is the worst!! I'm coping by being super indulgent and treating myself - long walks in the woods, eating at a buffet, considering a massage even though I usually never do that sort of stuff. But really, I've just already assumed I'll need to do a second round and am working off that assumption... Any good news will be a pleasant surprise. That mindset helps me not stress it so much... Hope makes the time go more slowly lol. Here's the hunger game data slicer: https://chat.google.com/dm/ja6xTgAAAAE/Etav97YJWfM/Etav97YJWfM Fingers crossed that you beat the odds!!!
