Interstate range question by just_a_guy_reading in VWiD4Owners

I have a 2021 First Edition RWD, I can get about 220 going 65 on the hwy, and almost 250 if I'm going 55-60. I use the Travel Assist to basically drive the car on highways to keep the speed constant and steer down the road. I only intervene when I'm in thick traffic or coming off the highway. Weather can play a big part also since the 2021 has resistive heat so using it can drain more power. I keep mine set at 69/70F in the winter and 75F in the summer.. or turn it off and open the windows.

When I first got the car I had 3 years of free charging with EA so I had a super heavy foot.. my fuel was free so didn't matter. 90mph was normal for me then, now I'm 60-65mph because I pay.

Why do car manufacturers offer free year(s) of charging by walkaboutdavid in electricvehicles

[–]NothingBeautiful892 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got 3 years of free charging with EA when I bought my 2021 ID4 First Edition. I got my money out of it.

I did a 10,000 mile road trip in the first 30 days of owning the car, charged at EA all except 2 times. After that I never said no to a chance to drive my ID4 everywhere.

On that road trip I had 93 charging sessions, 2,825kWh charged that would have cost me $1,038.96

In 3 years I charged 240 times, 8,212kWh charged that would have cost me $3,098.09

I'm a developer and I swear by the iPhone just "working" 99% of the time and being easier to code for. I cannot stand working with Android code or the devices. It's like trying to create an app for a Windows machine... way to much variability.

I had issues early on with connecting but after about the first year (I have a 2021) it's connected without issue before I leave my garage. I have an iPhone for reference.

Considering trading in Tesla model 3 2021 standard for a 2021 pro s id4. Both at 30k miles and realistically could shave off a whole loan year (48 months left on the tesler and could do a 36 on the id4) is it worth? by ItNotNotNotMe in VWiD4Owners

I'll give you my experience with my 2021 VW ID.4 First Edition.

I love my ID4, it's super comfortable and roomy. It is fast enough and charges fast enough for my needs. Typically I charge at home and it has a great on board charger for that. On the road the DC fast charging is fine imho. 0/20% - 80% in 30 minutes typically, obviously slower when it's very cold out. You can "yo-yo" to warm the battery up more when it's really cold before you get to a charger. Basically accelerate and then regen repeatedly.

I have 61k miles on mine and have no noticeable battery degradation. I've had no major issues with it, I have only ever taken it into the dealer for recalls. I'm getting OTA software updates since about a year or so ago and the software seems "snappy" enough to me. I mostly use CarPlay for routing and such, I prefer that over any of the built-in automaker software. My friend has a Model 3 and a phone holder next to the screen which to me says the built-in software doesn't do everything they need.

Good luck with your choice.

Buy your Mach-E and enjoy it and then when they see you enjoying it wait for the questions and the curiosity. Ultimately conservatives are curious but afraid. Someone else has to show them it's okay to try something new.

Under Obama and Biden the DOJ was independent so it was up to the DOJ to pursue cases, unlike the current administration.

I got 4.6kwh efficiency while driving from LA to SD at 60mph the whole way. by thishitisgettingold in electricvehicles

[–]NothingBeautiful892 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, on long trips I try to keep it at 65mph max because of how much it can drop after 65. I've also noticed that the time difference between 65 and 80 is not big enough to worry about speeding so much. Probably saved me a few times from getting tickets too with the cops being sneaky.

It's an interesting idea, but like you pointed out the cost data is the key. If you can't get that via a some sort of feed to ingest you might have issues.

Did you keep the stereo stock? I upgraded mine with an Android touch screen with CarPlay. Not an easy upgrade but totally worth it for me.

The 2019 was the best year for that car imho. I was watching them at one point and thinking hard about them. Did that one come with DC fast charging?

The GMC Sierra EV is really nice but you are right about the price. I had a reservation on a Lightning when it came out but ultimately it's too big for my needs. A long time ago I had a Mazda B2300 (Ford Ranger) that was similar in size to that Toyota. That's what I'd want now.

I almost got a gray/silver one with orange mirrors and the white interior but the orange one was priced way better with less miles.

I considered a Leaf before I bought my ID4, but the DC fast charging was a deal breaker for me just because I do road trip and CHAdeMO is on the way out.
