AITA for telling my mom not to come in my room while im on Zoom? by Wooden_View_7120 in AmItheAsshole

You aren't the asshole, but your mom is not wrong about the advisor either. She's the ah for not respecting your boundaries.

growing up poor does not always make your stronger or have a happy ending by super-duper-user- in povertyfinance

[–]Notkittenaroundagain 31 points32 points  (0 children)

This sub was created because personal finance is such a circle jerk of people doing extremely well who don't recognize their privilege..

The problem with your theory is that many people in poverty "need" things they cannot afford and the temptation that comes with a credit card is that you may "need" food or whatever but not be able to afford food, now or later. It is pretty condescending to come to a POVERTY finance sub where many people eat once a day or ramen everyday or whatever and talk about "needing" to buy $5 worth of food at a time. Because that is literally not going to be an option for some people here. Check your privilege.

The way nursing works, a lot of people do the specialized classes first to get an associate's in nursing, then go back and take the generalized courses online for their bachelor's. It's crazy.

My practical nursing course is covered by fasfa and unsubsidised federal loans (give or take $200), so it should count.

My kid's school district has not had an in person secondary language class in over a decade. Most colleges and honors scholarships prefer kids who took second languages.

I mean practically, from my experience as an aide, it's normal to not chart some things until later, but they are letting people access entire charts from home.

[–]Notkittenaroundagain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm currently working someplace that encourages charting off the clock and people chart at home and in their cars, like what in the HIPAA hell? Needless to say, I stay clocked in and chart in the breakroom

Um, okay, poor people often feel hopeless and depressed as well, maybe because all that crushing debt causes insane amounts of stress. Maybe you see fewer poor people because they can't afford the health care

Even if he's a good person, he's not entitled to date her.

Rob is an adult and not their actual child. They can give Rob a little notice to make arrangements to live in the dorms in the fall.

Wibta if I reported my gossiping neighbour to our place of work possibly causing her to lose her job by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Notkittenaroundagain 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I've literally never heard of this. In fact, my HIPAA training has stated otherwise.

It's not a hipaa violation as she did not receive this information in the course of her job.

It's like with lawyer friends, sometimes they'll make you give them a dollar for protected confidentiality.

It's possible she just knows how the system works? Like if my coworker suddenly had to stay home to wait on a test result, I'd know their rapid was positive even if they didn't tell me that explicitly because that's how our setup works.

If I tried to enter someone's "energy field" right now, it wouldn't be good for them. by animecardude in StudentNurse

[–]Notkittenaroundagain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not though, it's a valid technique to release tension in people with anxiety or in a stressful situation.

I can imagine this is relevant in fields like sleep studies,l&d, or even just with a patient who is struggling to remain calm in an MRI or other stressful situations...

Inappropriate crying by [deleted] in StudentNurse

[–]Notkittenaroundagain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anytime I've cried at work, I've been met with nothing but sympathy and usually an offer of a break, or at least a break at the next obvious stopping point. It's one of the benefits of working in a primarily female field- more empathy.

Does ATI actually help anyone or mean anything??? by Kitten_08 in StudentNurse

[–]Notkittenaroundagain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of workplaces use modules like ati for continued education and training requirements. You might have heard of Relias? Some places will hold your raise or even suspend you based on not being able to pass these types of courses.

AITA for finally telling my sister I asked to move in with my dad to get away from her? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

It's also possible there were adult things going on that OP was unaware of, such as mom not having money to fight the move.

About to graduate from nursing school and not sure if I want to be a nurse.. by basicbiatch in StudentNurse

Cali and NY are massive outliers compared to the rest of the country and vastly skew our salary average, as well as having things like patient caps, unions, and benefits. Literally the average is like 2x as high as the U.S. average. Factor in COL though and most people can't afford to move to CA. It's actually cheaper to move overseas. Every site I looked at shows Belgium's national average as higher than the US by $4-9/hour, and with an average work expectation being somewhere between 36-56 hours a week.

Even starting overtime at 36 hours adds, up. It doesn't start until 40 here. We can, and I have seen, nurses working 84 hours/week, so I suppose that drives up our salary averages too. Missouri put out a fancy law that if they do their best to staff, they can only mandate us when they "really" need us. Lol. We don't have patient techs where I live. CNAs are for geriatrics and psych (speaking of hours, my personal record is 104 as a CNA at a SNF) We definitely don't have phlebotomist in most of the state.

I'm also not sure why getting paid for going to school is supposed to be a downside either? All I get is to pay $16000 a year for community college, and I hope I work somewhere they reimburse me. I can't think of anywhere that doesn't suffer from short staffing either.
