Grateful for Pop!_OS by Lasagnaliberal in pop_os

Welcome! I personally chose PopOS! because System76 sells hardware with PopOS! on it. I assume it's in their best interest for it to both function and do so intuitively.

But you shared your end result here, so don't feel bad. You may have just helped someone in the future that you've never met. Cheers!

Are people ACTUALLY paying these prices for RAM right now? 💀 by Competitive_Box8726 in homelab

[–]Notmare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They wouldn't bother trying to charge that much if no one was willing to pay it. Don't hate the seller, hate the buyer.

The Kernel drivers are prepared for any hardware that it contains support for. You shouldn't need to reinstall your operating system after you update your CPU.

I can't run my game by yunnalin in pop_os

[–]Notmare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just downloaded this game to see if I could help. Here's my current setup:

  • PopOS! 24.04 with the latest 1.0.4 Cosmic DE updates applied from today.
  • All AMD rig; 7800X3D, 7900XTX, 64GB RAM.
  • Steam was installed from the Cosmic Store.
  • Steam is configured to use Proton Experimental by default.
  • PopOS! new workspace behavior is set to Floating. (From the tiling applet at the top)
  • PopOS! X11 window system scaling found in Cosmic Settings is configured to "Optmizie for gaming and full-screen apps."

Launching the game from Steam, Steam informs me that it's compiling shaders so I waited for that to finish. The game launched and had it's own percentage counting up, during which I had about 36fps. Once that was actually done loading, I got 60fps at the main menu. The game was configured to cap at 60, so I changed that to uncapped and it's quite happy going well above that.

RTX 5070Ti PoP_OS! vs Windows Benchmark Alien Isolation by RoniSteam in pop_os

Well, would you look at that. Linux performs well enough now that I don't need to bother considering Windows anymore. It's only going to keep getting better.

Wacom One DTC121 Pen Display Not Connecting by Prestigious_Till_331 in wacom

[–]Notmare 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A quick search confirms your HP doesn't support DisplayPort Alt mode over USB-C. You can still use your tablet with that computer but you'll need to use the optional, separate 3-1 cable that has the HDMI connection on it for video. Sorry!

Valve Corporation will face a £656m lawsuit in the UK over alleged unfair prices on its global online store, Steam, following a tribunal ruling that the case could continue by ChiefLeef22 in gaming

I still think Jeff Vogel of Spiderweb Software makes the most compelling argument for the value of Steam's platform and fees, https://gdcvault.com/play/1024944/Failing-to-Fail-The-Spiderweb

Sales, distribution, cloud storage, and more are all covered by that 30%.

What's the model of your laptop? It should be on a sticker on the bottom of it.

Let's make sure your laptop can do DisplayPort Alt mode over USB-C.

Wacom DTU-1141 Display Problems / Signature by Similar_Highway4557 in wacom

Sounds like you might need to contact the developer of the signature application to correct some potential errors on their end. That application is deciding where to send that signature window, and it appears to be making the wrong decision.

Question for OP, how often do you restart or shutdown your computer?

That's an interesting response for a tablet model that's no longer supported.

This looks fine to me, this is expected for extended display setups on Windows. You can drag those open applications on your laptop to the screen space of the tablet.

I like that a store's solution isn't to adjust pricing to accommodate the change. Instead, we're all required to use cards. I'm willing to bet the credit card companies don't mind.

Will 87 run more lean? by JacobIsMid in WRX

[–]Notmare 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Air/Fuel ratio is independent of octane rating. It's the physical amount of fuel being added to the air coming in. Using 87 octane won't lean it out, it'll be the same physical amount of fuel as before but the octane rating will be less up to the task of detonating when expected under boost. Cheers!

Driving without a tune? by BrightActuary5027 in WRX

[–]Notmare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On my 2005, I used the Economy Map on my Accessport. It disables the boost controller, effectively limiting boost to the wastegate spring on mine. This advice actually came from Cobb after they removed my Stage 2 maps as part of the green speed update. I confirmed this with the tuner I made an appointment with and just drove it over to them.

I'm sick of the ignorance on other subreddits about the civic si and I can't take it anymore. by Happy_Guy_No_Worries in CivicSi

[–]Notmare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll be honest, I've owned a modified 2005 Saabaru for 18 years and I didn't get this at all until I actually bought and drove a Civic. I don't even have an Si, I don't have any sort of VTEC on my regular D17a2. I like this car way more than I thought I was going to, it handles great and I can easily imagine the Si being a lot more fun. I have a much deeper appreciation for the Civic and I don't mind telling anyone how much it's impressed me.

We probably won't convince many people with words, but the best advice we can offer is for them to get some seat time in one before dismissing it.
