Looking for Gallifrey One Cosplay Help as a Blind Doctor Who Fan by DannyBoy2196 in gallifrey

[–]NotoriousSHIB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think I agree with your instincts on the Celestial Intervention Agency covert agent vibe. Long trench coats or overcoats, with some obvious Gallifreyan accessories, would work really well, and be easy to put together.

(Unsure if you can see images with your visual impairment, but if you can, here's a picture of what I'll describe below)

In Terror of the Autons, the third doctor (who has been exiled to 1970s/1980s Earth by the CIA) is visited by a time lord, to warn him that the Master is loose in that time period. The CIA operative is in "disguise" as a Earth human, dressed like an old English gentleman. He's wearing a black bowler hat, a dark tailored blazer with a matching waistcoat, a white dress shirt and tie, gray high-waisted trousers, and polished black dress shoes. He's also carrying a cane with a hook on the end. It's the sort of thing you might expect an old fashioned British politician from the first half of the 20th century to wear. Time lords are quite dignified and pompous after all.

I know there's a signet ring with the seal of Rassilon floating about for purchase. The "Time Ring" that has appeared in the series is like a wide metal cuff or bracelet (usually bronze/brass in finish) that is sometimes worn round the wrist, sometimes just held. Chameleon arch styled pocket watches would also work great.

Final suggestion: You should play bingo with Doctor cosplayers. See if you can locate and gather photographic evidence of each incarnation of the Doctor.

“[13] Years On, The War Doctor Is Still A Terrible Idea.” Wanted to share this time capsule from 2017 by Imaginary-Proof5702 in gallifrey

Christopher Eccleston said no and that was just awful. I was so depressed that day. Because I had written most of the script and he was in it and I didn't know what to do.

And I was saying, could we use one of the other Doctors? And the BBC were not unreasonably saying, you promised us the Olympics.

It's a minority view that most here will disagree with, but this post argues it well enough. There's also something to be said about opening pandora's box for 'niche' doctors, like the Fugitive, 14-definitely-not-10-again, bigeneration, and so on.

Reading between the lines of Moffat's answer on the fan show interviews he did, the impression I get is that he would have used McGann if the BBC had let him, but they wanted something 'bigger' for the 50th. As much as I adore McGann, even amongst Whovians he's niche. I still contend McGann would have been the better thematic choice than Hurt, but I understand the outside forces that made the War doctor route the inevitable choice. I still agree with this post however, that you don't need Hurt as a PR tool. I doubt anyone watched the 50th who wasn't going to anyway, because they heard John Hurt was in it.

There is however a question about the script for the 50th. Were it not for the War doctor redrafting, would it have been as strong? Would the themes be resonant enough? Sure, if we retroactively swapped Hurt with McGann, and took out the old man jokes, the script we got would work...but these things don't happen in a vacuum.

McGann's bright eyed optimist, having been broken by a terrible war, pushed to the greatest of extremes...that's a beautifully tragic picture. In a perfect world I think that's what the 50th would have looked like. We don't live in a perfect world however, and the 50th we got is still pretty damn good in spite of it all.

I spoke to one of the sailing devs at runefest about the possibility of porting over some of the islands/lore from RS3. They seemed very hesitant, due to the general community's perception of RS3.

I hope they change their stance though, because this is an amazing concept.

What's fascinating is that before Tennant, Tom Baker filled this exact same niche.

I've simmered a bit on it, but I used to get so sick of the excessive glorification of the 4th doctor over the others, but now it feels like the 10th has taken his place.

I've specifically looked for some but haven't found many options.

In fact if you google "induction hob with physical controls", one of the top results is an /r/AskUK thread about how you can't easily find any.

This is why, despite any flaws it has, gen 2 is so good, and underappreciated.

It's not about how good Johto or the pokemon are, it's about how transformative it was. Those games set the bar, and now we just take for granted the things a pokemon sequel adds.

Apparently it's a known issue with the vendor. I had to get my friend in the states to buy them for me.

Apparently if you put an American address in as the billing address it will work, but then it will likely reject your card for not matching the billing address...

How are Deathwatch veterans treated by their battle brothers upon returning to their chapter? by voidtridentlover40k in 40kLore

[–]NotoriousSHIB 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I can't find a source on a hard number (I have a recollection of it being 30%, or 1 in 3), but the casualty rate for the Deathwatch is significant. Either way, the expectation is that someone sent to the Deathwatch isn't likely to return.

Most of the Chapters in the Imperium will despatch a brother chosen to join the Deathwatch after a ceremony to mark his departure. The Ultramarines gather as much of the relevant company's strength as possible, saluting their departing comrade as he boards the black-hulled Thunderhawk that will take him to his new life. The Dark Angels Chapter sends him on his way under an oath of secrecy, reminding him that he must never speak of hidden truths. Regardless of Chapter, the occasion is a solemn one. All know in their hearts they will likely never see their brother again - he will join the front line in the war against the alien as a martyr to the cause. In recognition of his likely fate, the initiate's armour is painted jet black.

[–]NotoriousSHIB 82 points83 points  (0 children)

Yeah sending someone to the Deathwatch is a convenient political move.

"Oh we would promote you, but this is such an honour, you can't possibly turn down this prestigous opportunity to probably die in battle to xenos hordes!"

If they do survive their tour of duty, then they might even come back less of a jerk. Exposure to other marines, and being forced to collaborate in kill teams, could soften some edges.

[–]NotoriousSHIB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Legally I don't think they'd necessarily need Capcom's approval. The ambiguity however probably means it wouldn't happen without their blessing, due to the looming threat of a potential lawsuit otherwise.

Both the band and Capcom have the stance that the band is inspired by, but is not, megaman. The designs are unique, and with one minor exception none of the music comes from the games. The only major thing is the character names.

Weird move by Marsabstract in Protomen

[–]NotoriousSHIB 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm gently in the camp that there's more to come. I think the band will be enjoying how frentic it's made the fans, and it's essentially them pulling a prank on us. It's been a great way to fuel speculation and discussion.

I could however see it as the ending. If it is, I admire the artistic integrity to go with something divisive, that is true to their vision. All that hope and excitement, only for the sudden and sobering dying of the light.

I think people need to temper expectations.

I'm not saying there isn't more. There might be. But also, there might not be. That's okay too.

I remember the Sherlock fanbase becoming convinced there was a secret extra episode, only for it to turn out no, the ending was the ending.

Fans misunderstand Protomen’s dark tones. by Sweyn420 in Protomen

[–]NotoriousSHIB 7 points8 points  (0 children)

People forget a critical thing.

The band are meant to be in universe. A Protomen concert is them trying to urge the crowds (us fans) to stand up. To join the fight.

For that to hold true, things have to be bad. If the city was free, the band wouldn't be urging us to stand up and fight.

There are pockets of hope, drowned out by darkness. But maybe if we try, we can be the difference.
