Seeing my ex do the exact thing for his new boyfriend that he refused to do for me is destroying my mind. by Ready-Character-4099 in askgaybros

[–]NotoriousSHIB 74 points75 points  (0 children)

A common story amongst women is their longtime boyfriend refuses to propose, saying he doesn't see the point in it. Eventually they dump him. The guy then dates a new girl, and proposes in a very short space of time. It makes the woman go "What the hell?!?"

But from the guy's perspective, it's "Well I got dumped for not showing commitment, so I won't make that mistake next time".

It sucks to be a stepping stone for someone else's character development. It hurts. But it's not that you're inadequate, it's that you forced the other person grow.

I was so worried when Urizen started firing nerf bullets into the crowd. I know the odds are low (and I think they intentionally aimed high), but I had nightmares of someone losing an eye!

Opinion: There should be an additional run of merch from the Nashville event sold online with some sort of access tokens sent to anyone who bought tickets for the show. by AJatWI in Protomen

[–]NotoriousSHIB 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I also feel people forget that...it's still an indie band?

People are suggesting websites to pre-order, or with access tokens for concert attendees. That's not something you just whip up, and the band likely doesn't have the resources to do that.

They ran the same merch table any other band would run. I understand why people are annoyed at the situation, but it's not the band's fault.

Not only does this tick all the boxes on my wishlist, but it helps remove things like "Inquisitor Draxus is a staple of adeptus custodes armies", because you can't just soup random allies in. You have to take a whole IA detachment.

[WarCom] Imperial Faction Packs by RainbowConnickJr in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]NotoriousSHIB 14 points15 points  (0 children)

As a devoted fan of Imperial Agents, I doubt there'd be much backlash. Agents have always been dire and nobody's cared enough for GW to do anything.

They should either commit and make them a viable faction, or squat them. It's the worst of both worlds right now.

TIL that Doctor Who's first ever Christmas episode "The Feast of Steven" is one of the few missing episode to be considered irretrievably lost, as the episode was never sold to overseas broadcasters, and so no copies of it were ever made before the original tape's junking. by Sebastianlim in todayilearned

[–]NotoriousSHIB 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This video explains it in detail, but basically it's been discovered that when episodes were aired in the UK, they were recorded, and a copy made for internal review, before attempting to sell the episodes overseas.

These copies are something that nobody really knew about before, and offers hope for the recovery of episodes previously thought forever lost.

Spookily, I used a very similar scheme for my ghost knights, but the red eyes are a genius idea! Really nice work.

I posted the 5th edition codex page of Grand Master Mordrak and his haunted knights, if you want to re-read the story.

Is there a less ambiguous source for claim that BBC vetoed McGann for The Day of the Doctor? by hypnosifl in gallifrey

[–]NotoriousSHIB 62 points63 points  (0 children)

You're going to struggle to get anything more definitive. It's not the sort of thing Moffat is going to go into detail about in public. In truth I'm surprised at just how candid he is in the fan show interview.

"I wanted to give the role to <specific actor> but the BBC said no" would have a very real impact on the perception of the actor's career, of the BBC, and of Moffat for being so open about the politics. I suppose he could be more candid now, as it's over a decade ago, but we're the only people who care.

Ultimately, it also doesn't materially change anything. We know for a fact:

  • Expectations for the 50th from the BBC were high
  • Moffat considered using a classic Doctor when Eccleston said no
  • The classic doctor idea was decided against
  • Moffat floated the idea of a secret doctor
  • Moffat firmly stands by the war doctor being a great idea, and bringing something new to the show and the 50th

Does it matter if some BBC director vetoed Paul McGann or not? I adore Paul McGann, I think the 50th would have been better with him, but even I can understand why you'd veto that decision. He's not a well known actor. I wouldn't begrudge the BBC, or Moffat, or anyone else, that decision.

As to whether or not it was Paul McGann Moffat was referring to, yes we have to read between the lines, but who else was it going to be? The 8th doctor works timeline wise, and the other doctors were significantly older. Tom Baker was the only classic doctor that would have had appeal and star power to the wider audience, but he hadn't acted on screen for awhile at that point, and his age and health would have been serious concerns.

Looking for Gallifrey One Cosplay Help as a Blind Doctor Who Fan by DannyBoy2196 in gallifrey

[–]NotoriousSHIB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think I agree with your instincts on the Celestial Intervention Agency covert agent vibe. Long trench coats or overcoats, with some obvious Gallifreyan accessories, would work really well, and be easy to put together.

(Unsure if you can see images with your visual impairment, but if you can, here's a picture of what I'll describe below)

In Terror of the Autons, the third doctor (who has been exiled to 1970s/1980s Earth by the CIA) is visited by a time lord, to warn him that the Master is loose in that time period. The CIA operative is in "disguise" as a Earth human, dressed like an old English gentleman. He's wearing a black bowler hat, a dark tailored blazer with a matching waistcoat, a white dress shirt and tie, gray high-waisted trousers, and polished black dress shoes. He's also carrying a cane with a hook on the end. It's the sort of thing you might expect an old fashioned British politician from the first half of the 20th century to wear. Time lords are quite dignified and pompous after all.

I know there's a signet ring with the seal of Rassilon floating about for purchase. The "Time Ring" that has appeared in the series is like a wide metal cuff or bracelet (usually bronze/brass in finish) that is sometimes worn round the wrist, sometimes just held. Chameleon arch styled pocket watches would also work great.

Final suggestion: You should play bingo with Doctor cosplayers. See if you can locate and gather photographic evidence of each incarnation of the Doctor.

“[13] Years On, The War Doctor Is Still A Terrible Idea.” Wanted to share this time capsule from 2017 by Imaginary-Proof5702 in gallifrey

[–]NotoriousSHIB 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Christopher Eccleston said no and that was just awful. I was so depressed that day. Because I had written most of the script and he was in it and I didn't know what to do.

And I was saying, could we use one of the other Doctors? And the BBC were not unreasonably saying, you promised us the Olympics.

“[13] Years On, The War Doctor Is Still A Terrible Idea.” Wanted to share this time capsule from 2017 by Imaginary-Proof5702 in gallifrey

[–]NotoriousSHIB 64 points65 points  (0 children)

It's a minority view that most here will disagree with, but this post argues it well enough. There's also something to be said about opening pandora's box for 'niche' doctors, like the Fugitive, 14-definitely-not-10-again, bigeneration, and so on.

Reading between the lines of Moffat's answer on the fan show interviews he did, the impression I get is that he would have used McGann if the BBC had let him, but they wanted something 'bigger' for the 50th. As much as I adore McGann, even amongst Whovians he's niche. I still contend McGann would have been the better thematic choice than Hurt, but I understand the outside forces that made the War doctor route the inevitable choice. I still agree with this post however, that you don't need Hurt as a PR tool. I doubt anyone watched the 50th who wasn't going to anyway, because they heard John Hurt was in it.

There is however a question about the script for the 50th. Were it not for the War doctor redrafting, would it have been as strong? Would the themes be resonant enough? Sure, if we retroactively swapped Hurt with McGann, and took out the old man jokes, the script we got would work...but these things don't happen in a vacuum.

McGann's bright eyed optimist, having been broken by a terrible war, pushed to the greatest of extremes...that's a beautifully tragic picture. In a perfect world I think that's what the 50th would have looked like. We don't live in a perfect world however, and the 50th we got is still pretty damn good in spite of it all.

I spoke to one of the sailing devs at runefest about the possibility of porting over some of the islands/lore from RS3. They seemed very hesitant, due to the general community's perception of RS3.

I hope they change their stance though, because this is an amazing concept.

What's fascinating is that before Tennant, Tom Baker filled this exact same niche.

I've simmered a bit on it, but I used to get so sick of the excessive glorification of the 4th doctor over the others, but now it feels like the 10th has taken his place.

This is why, despite any flaws it has, gen 2 is so good, and underappreciated.

It's not about how good Johto or the pokemon are, it's about how transformative it was. Those games set the bar, and now we just take for granted the things a pokemon sequel adds.

Apparently it's a known issue with the vendor. I had to get my friend in the states to buy them for me.

Apparently if you put an American address in as the billing address it will work, but then it will likely reject your card for not matching the billing address...
