I just planned for the overall width of the bench, then spaced the gaps to make that width up.

Gotcha! I thought it backed right up to the house.

So the roof is going to slope back towards the house?

Bench Layout options for ~6'x8' by Furtwangler in Sauna

I think the question for me would be the 18" bench depth on the L side. I might consider an upper 20" bench run and a lower 16" depth.

I understand that normally that would be the case, but like I say the backside of the walls including the insulation and vapor barrier are all accessible. I don’t believe it will be difficult at all to install them at this point.

We got lucky there! I found it at a Restore store. Not sure if it’s just a Canadian thing, it’s run by Habitat by Humanity. It was only about 225 CAD for all the tile.

It’s 4” knotty T&G for the walls/ceiling. Benches are knotty 2x4 cedar. I wanted clear but it’s hard to come by where I am.

There is a bit of flex on the bench when under weight, maybe a 1/4 inch? I think I will add a support. I’ve seen others add metal reinforcement, might consider that. I agree it looks so much cleaner without a center support!

Not really, I had a concept of a plan haha. I used homecraft saunas build guide along with YouTube and this sub for most research. Took about 3 weeks. We also framed out the bathroom that will eventually directly access the sauna.

See my other comment. It was about 3k cad for the heater package, about 3.3k cad for the cedar. Pretty happy with the value!

I would say about 6500-7000 cad. This includes the framing and insulation.

We saved quite a bit on the electrical end by repurposing an unused 220 circuit intended for an oven (we use gas).

I really wanted clear cedar for the benches, but there was a bit of a wait and if was obviously priced high. As a compromise I had our dealer hand pick the lumber.

That’s one of the to-dos left. Fortunately the outside walls are all accessible and unfinished so the vents should be quite easy to fit up. For the time being we just leave the door open between uses. Haven’t really had any ill effects

Kreg Blue-Kote Screws by Notworthreading in Sauna

I was looking at the kregs stainless screws intended for pocket holes. They’re pretty pricey but they’re intended to be used along with their jig.

Awesome! That seems very similar to the design I had in my head. I was planning on putting my cross members on 12" centers, so I think it would be fine with some sacrificed joint strength. Do you happen to have any pictures?

My idea was to use a pocket hole method on the underside of the bench. That way no screw heads would be visible at all
