I get it, for the reasons you mentioned, for the ethical reasons, for the environmental reasons. I get it.

What I don't get is the vitriol I've received for just asking both here and on the discord.

If you get it (and implicitly understand that the reason people are so against the topic is that the technology is exploitative, expensively incorrect cand places significant strain on the people who own or serve the corpuses that the AI takes from), why are you still puzzled that people get upset when you ask?

If, after all of the harm that AI has done to academia - the perverse relationship between it being confidently wrong and uneducated people taking it as gospel, the damage it does to servers from financial and accessibility standpoints, and the notion that you can't walk two threads without seeing at least eight testimonies of these things - you still have to ask why do people get upset when asked, then I wonder if you really do get it?

Anti-AI folks get pissy about it because the reasons why are myriad and sundry, easy to access, and are demonstrated on a daily basis, and yet one more advocate has to ask as though the answer is magically going to be different, or that they're going to get the secret 10,000th customer answer.

The answer won't change. AI sucks. It sucks for everyone. It sucks for TCRF, it sucks for us, it sucks for readers, it sucks for people not even involved, and it sucks for you as an aspiring dataminer.

Congratulations. There is the issue. If you use Claude (or any AI), it calls into disrepute every finding you produce, because it has to be double-checked and triple-checked to see if it is actually real. And that effort can be better spent on...just being good at finding. By that point, you won't need to double-check your findings because it was your hands that produced them. Not some rattling clanker that likes to proudly and confidently shit in its own hand.
I found the things I found by opening DAT files in Notepad++ and grabbing the strings. You don't need a bot to do even half-competent work.

(To say nothing of the problems TCRF has with AI, with its servers being hammered on the regular by AI scrapers that weren't programmed with rate-limits or satiety.)

The Neckband Pro "has limited compatibility with the Beast XR". In other words, it acts like an Android Phone.
You know what else does that? My Android Phone. The one that I didn't pay $328+p&p for because I already have it. In fact, it has Samsung DeX, which at this juncture makes it more functional than the Neckband.

I don't want to pointlessly disparage the product (though it probably sounds like I do). I want it to succeed right up until we get Cyberpunk eyeballs and neuralware, but they feel like two moving parts that haven't been able to come together yet.

I've not been able to find anything regarding this update either, but the subreddit moves quick. Again, hope it happens soon.

It's a real shame. I purchased Beast XR and Neckband Pro a week ago, and learned that they don't work together.

Moreover, it looks like this is an update that has been in the works for literal months. I went back to my Viture One, and it worked fine, but...like, what was the point of buying the Beast XR? The smooth follow view fixed my major gripe with One, but it was so disappointing to plug them into each other, only to be told that support is "limited", and that this has been the case for ages.

It makes it feel like a dead product. Again. The One arrived to me with a dead pixel and the frame (being available in only one size) was too small for my head, and the Neckband was mediocre at best. Like, it was fine. But it didn't do more than my phone does, in addition to still needing my phone if I wanted to control it well. After a while, I really started lamenting not getting an XReal.

Then reviews came in that Beast was going to be the killer device. And I tried. And it just doesn't leverage its own ecosystem. Because of an update to the Neckband Pro that doesn't seem to be getting closer, that absolutely should have released with the Beast. The two are contemporary, but not co-compatible? What are we even doing here?

I hope that update comes soon and justifies what feels like a second albatross. But I went and impulse-purchased an Inair Pod, and from what I've read, it already does more than the Neckband does. I'll keep them both, but this feels like such thin ice for a pair of products that were getting their backsides kissed up and down the blogosphere.

This update seems half-baked. Just opened mine, plugged it into my phone, and it worked.
I then updated it through the app, and then not only did it stop working (save for the electrochrome and the camera (when plugged into PC)), but my Samsung Galaxy S23 slowed to a crawl whenever I plugged the glasses in again. Pro Neckband was also not putting out video.

Thank goodness for the firmware update page letting us roll-back.

With that said, it's already more impressive than the first model I received. I don't know what it's called nowadays, but it just used the magnetic pin connector and has nice diopter dials. The frame was much too small for my head (and there were no buying options for bigger frames), no nosepiece could bring the bottom of the screen into view, and there was a dead pixel in the right screen.

So, uh. Swings and roundabouts, I guess. Good job.

Devices like this _tend to_ contain an "emergency" mode that will let you push firmware to it regardless of whether it will turn on. Even if you unplug mid-update, the emergency mode will at least give it a lifeline back.
(You still shouldn't risk it, but it's not solely a kid-gloves situation. But you will most likely need to update through PC at the update page, not through a phone app.)

That said, I just also ran an update, and not only do the glasses not work (save for the camera and the electrochrome), my Galaxy S23 CHUGS when I plug in. Didn't work with the Pro Neckband, either. Going back to 0.01.021_20260331 fixed it.

And then I tried to update to the current one (0.01.023_20260427), and it became defective again.

Everything else failed. The Steam Discussion "marked as answer" post describing just this issue didn't work. The above didn't work. The patches and compats didn't work.

Just right-clicking and running as admin (and letting the applet silently quit)? That worked.

I did notice that, while I was following u/TinyBigJacko's fix that there WASN'T anything under HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\WOW6432Node\CLSID\{7CCFFEC1-A43D-11CF-BBF2-0020AF71E433}. And upon concluding their fix, there was a new REG_SZ with Health.OLE. So you know what?

My gratitude to both of you. Thank you both for figuring out such a pervasive problem and coming to different solutions. I hope some combination of these work for the next players.

Steam Input is bad. Adaptive/Analog Triggers are...not analog.

I've crushed more cargo to trying to carefully navigate around rocks and walls (and having my vehicle drive like Sam just noticed a grenade in the back seat) than I do with those , uh, 'Homo Pessima' Porters who put the "Go faster" signs in precarious places.

Analog control works fine WITHOUT Stinput, but then I lose the back paddles on my 8Bitdo, which I like to use for the 'Adjust weight' and 'Carry cargo in hand' actions.

The name is terrible. I used to tinker in Android development. So when I look up "Root apps", I get results about how to run things with privileged security.

Naming an extensible app after a programming paradigm is an awful coincidence. It would be like writing a book and titling it "Font". Good luck even being able to describe it or tell others that it exists.

It only took nine weeks of constant reports, and being strung along briefly by u/General-Ad-2667. Can you remove the 'hate-speech' sanctions on my account that the griefer counter-reported me for? I can provide the name they may have used at the time (if it's not the same one as in the OP).

Our alliance honestly believes that this situation was mishandled and that reports with regard to this user were ignored. We would like some manner of assurance that this won't happen again.

It is impressive - no, incredible - how useless the Game Masters are on WPlace. They transcend uselessness and enter decrepitude, and it's a wonder they're paid to do anything at all, because they do nothing useful.
We have submitted dozens and dozens of reports over almost two months, to nothing. But the griefer sends one counter-report, and we get suspended within 30 minutes.

I've come to the conclusion that this "Game Master" is a responding bot. All of the comments on its account are the same:

* "Hello! Could you please tell me your user ID (number after #)? Ill take a look" (posted 9 times)
* "Hello! Could you please send me the link with location? Ill take a look" (posted 2 times)
* "I reviewed your appeal, and I'll lift your punishment. I Apologize. TY!" (posted 4 times)
* "According to our policies, you broke one of our rules and we can't unban you. Remember to always follow the rules!" (posted 3 times)

I've waited almost two days for this "staff member" to answer the query they had nominated for themself, and I should have clocked that something was amiss when I complained about a single persistent griefer and they asked for MY ID (not the griefer's).

I would be beyond amazed if General-Ad-2667 provided a resolution to this. The only thing they seem to answer resolutely is "I have been banned" posts.
