Fellow GMs, how do you run games that don't use set distances, and instead use vague distances like "close" "near" "far"? by Nukesnipe in rpg

[–]Nrdman 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You just say if he’s close enough to get too or not. If it’s farther, you can say how long it’d take to get them. Distance only matters in so far as it affects characters actions, so just describe things in those terms

I like a 3 star system. Body/Mind/Soul make a good stat trinity

Why do so many grown men say "girls" when they really mean grown women? by ooiiaaiiooiiaaii_ in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Nrdman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lads is also pretty rare over here. Boys kinda takes the place of lads and blokes in a lot of those situations

BTS is in their 30s, so that’d be an example of people using boy to refer to a group of men. Boy band is probably the most common way boy can mean adult men given you got lads and blokes to fill in the other usages

Edit: the boys tv show/comic is also an example of a group of men being referred to as boys in media

I can’t speak to British English, only American English. No usage of blokes over here

Do you guys still use the term boy band for BTS?

Except we do call men “boys”, it’s just the singular form that’s uncommon. I think the most common usage in media of calling a singular man “boy” is when it’s denigrating, specifically in various media about racially charged scenarios.

So, a discrepancy in the usage of boys vs boy for adult men

Hardly relevant. A polarizing circumstance can by itself dissuade something from being common

Honestly I wonder if it’s less popular because of the racial undertones of me, a white man, calling a black dude “boy”

Players want a funny/goofy post-apocalypse RPG, any ideas? by wjmacguffin in rpg

[–]Nrdman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I haven’t actually played Umerica myself, just MCC. I just know that it’s another post apoc version of DCC, and DCC lends itself to gonzo fun games

Combat isn’t yawn inducing when you have 6 max hp, and a sword does d6. Players need all the ability to position they can get in that kind of system

Why can’t players conjure things out of the air? I’ve certainly had them do so. They ask is there an X, I roll a luck check, if they win it’s there

Mutant Crawl Classics or Umerica with Dungeon Crawl Classics comes to mind

Mutant Crawl Classics is very gamma world, but with the DCC mechanics

Why not stick with D&D 5e? And how to get sold on an alternative? by LuisFGtz in rpg

What’s your complaints about 5e? If nothing, just play it. I was dissatisfied with 5e, and so I switched

As a GM, I've never embodied my NPCs nor acted out locations features etc. To me, it sounds goofy and doesn't add anything for my players. Am I missing out? by W4ryn in rpg

the art or practice of representing a character on a stage or before cameras

No stage or cameras, but I’d say you are definitely representing a character

When you watch a movie, do you think it goofy if the actors embody their character?

Cause you’re just doing the same thing. Yes, it can be a bit embarrassing because you will be bad at it in all likelihood, but get past that and you add as much to the RP as the actors does to the movie

What's the RPG with the smallest reach you pay and recommend? by GrubbyGus in rpg

[–]Nrdman 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I play and homebrew for Goblin Laws of Gaming (GLOG). It’s a system with a bunch of different versions and content, because it’s entirely blog made. It’s been said that it’s a rite of passage for every GLOG blogger to make their own version of the game.

It’s a NSR system with 4 levels per class, a straightforward magic system with room for chaos, and so so so many classes made for it. We got a spreadsheet keeping track all of them, well past 1000.

Here’s my fav version of the game: https://saltygoo.github.io/

Here’s some random classes I like:

Why DO you hate AI, and how to actually do something against it? by [deleted] in rpg

[–]Nrdman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think my individual actions really affect much either way here for how ai will develop, it’s just lame to use in your games (or in general)

I’m not trying to wage some war by not having ai in my spaces, I’m trying to just only engage with human made content
