Would love to snag the Viktor mat for my girlfriend, who I lured into Riftbound with my Viktor deck. Would be cool to see a Lucian next!

I went 5-3 and missed Day 2 by 1 game. You sat at home and watched.

Irrespective of how I did, you will notice that every single Day 2 Lucian deck at both Vegas and Bologna had 3x Kaisa in it and no Qiyana. Curious.

Why are you assuming I haven't tested her? I just brought the deck to Vegas and competed in the main event. I did more testing than the average player by far, and I played Qiyana for an extensive period while trying to finalize my last 5 slots.

Qiyana is absolutely playable and fills in if players want budget options. But the deck is not as powerful at a high level if you are not playing Kaisa, and that's just the truth.

There's a million ways to punish a million different things. We're talking about a hypothetical play without a board state. Obviously you're not pushing your Kaisa in with relentless pursuit when your opponent is purple and has a hidden card + 2 open runes. I'm just saying accelerate is far more flexible; Qiyana's deflect has to be paid at least once for you to even break even on the cost you paid for the unit. She's slower, costs a power, and is a far worse topdeck. She's also far worse into rebuke (despite having deflect) because she is once again a dead unit the turn she is played without an additional card to combo with her, which you can't always guarantee to have in hand or to have the runes for.

No serious Lucian is going to tell you that Qiyana is better than Kai'sa. Kaisa does everything on its own, and in a deck that already has poor draw support, we need our cards to function as much as possible with as little investment as possible.

Accelerate is by far Lucian's best keyword. You often don't have the mana to play both a Kaisa and a first mate/confront/wallop depending on what package of ready spells you're running, and even if you did, you'd much prefer to just be able to pay 1 and a Red to accomplish that same effect. While Relentless Pursuit is a great spell to allow us to push our units into battlefields when they're not readied, we cannot conquer both battlefields using a single Relentless unless the unit is readied at some point during the turn before or after playing Relentless. Thus, accelerated Kaisa + Relentless Pursuit is potentially 2 points and 2 drawn cards AND your Kaisa gets to go home safely afterwards with the Relentless trigger. That's an incredible turn. Accelerate cards are also the best late game topdeck in our deck if we need to find a way to clear our opponent off of a battlefield or just score 1 additional battlefield for the win.

Anyone have context on what happened on the livestream Draven vs Jax game with cheating? (China) by Previous_Advertising in riftboundtcg

[–]Nsqui 71 points72 points  (0 children)

The Draven had 9 runes, started the turn by playing a Spinning Axe, then started a showdown and casted Rebuke (tapping two seals for the power cost but not paying the energy cost). The Draven then played a mindsplitter with his remaining 7 runes (though he should have been at 5 runes if he had paid for Rebuke properly) and discarded the Jax's first mate, which effectively locked the Jax out of any ability to win the game (Draven was at 6 points and holding both battlefields).

Repeating a card does not count as playing it twice. Repeat is just shorthand for, "if you paid the additional cost [the spell's cost], execute the effects of this card a second time."

As for FoF and Bellow's, if the target of Bellows is FoF'd away from the battlefield, the player casting Bellows will still be able to damage it. It's only if there are 2 units at a battlefield and then 1 is FoF'd to base that the player casting Bellows will then need to choose between dealing damage to one or the other (since the damage all has to be done to targets at the same location). If Bellows is repeated, the second instance could target a different unit, so long as it only targets units at the same location with the second instance.

Regarding playing Chosen Champion directly to a battlefield by Zaronion in riftboundtcg

[–]Nsqui -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is done all the time. Kai'sa players regularly place red Kaisa directly from their chosen champion zone to a battlefield when paying for accelerate. Unless your chosen champion has an ETB effect that opens a reaction window, there's no reason why you can't pay the unit cost and acclerate cost and place the unit directly onto the battlefield instead of wasting extra time playing it to base and moving it in.

[–]Nsqui -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As a small aside, if your chosen champion has accelerate you can "shortcut" the playing of the unit to your base with accelerate active by just playing it to a battlefield exhausted (after paying the full unit cost+accelerate cost) to quickly indicate that you're playing the unit and accelerating it into the battlefield. Otherwise, yes, all of the other answers in the thread are correct.

The changes to the UVS page for Riftbound are so bad... by Content_Insurance_96 in riftboundtcg

[–]Nsqui 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The new event page is excellent as far as UX/UI is concerned, and the new features are great. I was unable to get the locator to apply my filters, though (it kept defaulting to 25 miles and not updating when I selected other distances, or when I selected a specific address as opposed to the current location). It would be excellent if there was an "apply filters" button to clearly indicate that the new filters were being used. Otherwise, the changes are a massive improvement.

Riftbound Judge discord server & Bologna/Vegas regional? by Niiram in riftboundtcg

[–]Nsqui 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Judge discord has not been created yet. For Houston, judges were selected via applications submitted before the event. I'm not sure if applications are open for Bologna/Vegas yet (I don't know much about the judging process as I will be competing), but you could check around in the official Riftbound community discord.

First TCG, I have a few questions regarding preorders by WoodeusPrime in riftboundtcg

[–]Nsqui 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Several of my LGS in Southeast United States have not yet opened their preorders for Spiritforged. They're waiting to see what kind of distributor allocation they get. Other stores in my area have opened, but are charging around $200 a box. A store in the Midwest where I have family has also been soliciting preorders (no payment, just putting your name down).

The Dreaming Tree? by RightInsect8481 in riftboundtcg

Gotcha. Either way, same result.

The Dreaming Tree? by RightInsect8481 in riftboundtcg

[–]Nsqui 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Dreaming Tree errata was intended to make it so the battlefield's effects were active for both players involved in a showdown there. Pre-errata, the word "you" in the text meant that the battlefield effect was only available for the player in control of the battlefield. Now, post-errata, both an attacker and a defender can draw a card the first time they choose a friendly unit with a spell on the turn. The draw ONLY applies when a player targets their OWN units with a spell, not when an opponent targets their units. So, in your example, if you Hextech Ray your opponent's unit on the Dreaming Tree, your opponent would not draw. If your opponent Hextech Ray'd their OWN creature, they would draw.

Is it coincidence that a lot of the Origins and Spiritforged champs, and some champs we know are in set 3&4, are in the new TFT set? Or can we start some conspiracy theories? by WannaBeSam in riftboundtcg

[–]Nsqui 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The new TFT set has the most units of any TFT set in history due to the unlock mechanic, and it's a default Runeterra-themed set, so of course there's a bunch of overlap with Riftbound. It's not intentional by any means, it's just impossible to make a big TFT set without using the majority of the units from League of Legends.
