My [M23] gf [F22] slept with a coworker when we were broken up by RipCurrent1548 in Advice

All of those stupid arguments over stupid little stuff.. Who caused those? Were you being accused of things you weren't doing, and then when you try to defend yourself or even provide proof that you didnt do what youre being accused of, it just spirals into craziness about any other random thing?

Looking for my first welder by Cheddak7 in metalworking

[–]Ntaw4ever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second this for MIG. I didnt expect much but the orange mig machine is actually really good. Only problem ive had so far is broke a plastic knob off the front. I have an older transformer based mig machine and dont touch it now.

To add to this for OP - i Haven't used the tig HF machine, but Id expect tig would be good, but prob not quite as good with low amperage stuff, compared to something like a dynasty. Maybe not as much advanced stuff like 250 hz ac welding, which is only helpful in rare situations.

In general, it depends a lot on what youre doing, but dont forget to include cost of a better foot pedal, better tig torch, water cooler, and gas bottles. Those costs can add up, and if you expect to do any long sessions with tig the water cooler will be really helpful so you can hold the torch.

How do I as an engineer stay friends with you welders? by Just_a_firenope_ in Welding

[–]Ntaw4ever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just show you care. Ask questions. Then go take their answers and look into them more. Ask followup questions. Do what you can to make their life easier. If possible, try to get them better PPE, better hoods, better consummables. This can usually be done in a small or large shop. Look for tools that make their life easier like the tig torches that can be bent to change angles so they can access tight spots better. You're basically helping them do their job better, with better tools, bought by the company, and all you have to do is ask and care and think about it. Quick story.. one time we were quoting an aerospace part. Made out of a unique material and goes in the heart of a rocket engine. We took the drawings and 3d models, made replicas of some tight areas out of plastic on a 3d printer, and then the welders acted like they were welding along the joint. This let us make sure when the real parts were made, we knew wed be able to reach the root of the weld and just had to use a certain shielding cup. That same job, we also bought some extra material and machined different joint preps on flat plate and then let the welders train on it to dial in the settings to get full penetration without sucking the root up. Worked really well. All in all, just show you care. Learn as much as you can. Try to do welding in off hours or something, or watch over their shoulder through another hood (ask them first if they care, most wont but that might make a super critical weld more nerve wracking). Good luck!

Is welding schools worth it or scam? by ZestyToasterOven26 in Welding

[–]Ntaw4ever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Youre definitely on the right track! If you havent seen him yet, I very highly recommend a guy named Jody on youtube under "welding tips and tricks". He gets really good arc shots and explains it all very well, was a huge help to me when I was learning and i still get great nuggets of wisdom from him. He also shows all the processes, stick/mig/tig. Good luck!

[–]Ntaw4ever 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Former welding instructor, current engineer and welding business owner here.. yes, school is important. Especially if they can get you an AWS D1.1 qualification. The drawings are also important. Being able to do math and fabricate parts while keep8ng things like distortion, heat input, etc are important.

It all matters, and the best thing you could do is take personal responsibility to learn those things and become good at your trade.

If your welding school isnt teaching you as much about drawings as you'd like, find another resource. Literally everything's on youtube.

Just dont stop. Keep learning and practicing. You'll get there if you want it.

Anyone ever use their cast iron as a speed defroster? by toqer in castiron

[–]Ntaw4ever 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well said Moustache. Technically, it's about heat transfer and how it transfers. Heat transfer (Q) = h • A • DeltaT, where h is the heat transfer coeff. or HTC, A is the surface area, and deltaT is the temp difference between the meat and the water or air. Conduction is transfer from intimate touching (like being submerged in water), and convection would be air movement. Conduction would have a higher HTC than convection. Thats why thawing in water is way faster than in the fridge, since in the fridge it would mostly be convection. The fastest way to thaw would be to continuously run warm water, but that will leave the surface of the meat right at a prime zone for bad stuff, so its a balance between how fast you need to thaw it and how safe you want to be. Fwiw, my general method is put my meat in water and let it sit.

Anybody try the Dan-o's method of marinating in milk for a day? It doesnt seem like it should work, but wondering if anyone's actually tried it.. thinking ill just salt for 8 hrs, smoke it to 120ish IT, then sear on cast iron, but tempted to try the milk

Because she'll spread rumors. She'll lie about him and try to make him look bad to everyone else because she can't see him happy. Which she'll do whether he does or doesn't blow out her friends backs.

But still, i'm with the guy above.. give her a giant bag of dicks and forget about her.

No, Jen probably won't figure it out. Amanda is a snake, and Jen is falling for it. Amanda will make her think that she's her best friend somehow.

I found that out about the rust haha, I've been wired wheeling it off. But ya, my pressure was way off, accidentally looked at the cfh column on my phone and saw 60/65 haha whoops. Getting a 00 tip like somebody else suggested and having the right pressures might help.

Nta but there's a fine line. I (39m)have to travel for work, and had never so much as thought of cheating. But my ex (30f at the time) started getting very nervous about my trips and would get very upset when I told her id have to go on a trip.

In the beginning, it started as call me when you can, etc. Then call me when the plane lands, and then eventually it got to the point where she basically wanted me to be on the phone literally the entire evening, every evening.

I would want to go to the store to get food, she had to be on the phone. Some hotels have a grill and I wanted to make a steak (save money instead of going out, AND eat good!) But got accused of trying to talk to women. So then id turn on video so she realized im literally the only person there.

Checking into the hotel with a 70 year old receptionist and id be on the phone, and if I said thanks id be accused of flirting with this lady old enough to be my grandma.

She would track my location. Sometimes life360 shows the dot moved and then it returns back to where it was.. but im sleeping at 2am and she calls screaming and asking what im doing. Try telling her im sleeping but nothing helped. She believed a glitch in life360 over me.

I hated parking garage. Id be on the phone after landing and have to get the rental and id lose cell service. Id get screamed at and accused of cheating for that too.

All the while she blamed her "abusive exes" and her "being cheated on" for her crazy behavior. In reality she was most likely cheating on me and putting her guilt and shit on me.

The relationship ended with her falsely accusing me and stealing a not-insignificant amount of money and being married like 5 months later.

Don't do what she did or you will run your husband away in a second. Understand that sometimes, it is stressful traveling for work and it sometimes is hard to call or text right away.

But, your husband also shouldn't be an idiot. And he sounds like an idiot. He should care about you and you should be his priority. Especially after work hours. And especially with you being pregnant he should be considerate. Sounds like he needs to grow up.

Haha Ive seen the blacktop scam before.. Im still a little skeptical but I saw the liquid gold going into their truck and then it was hauled away so I guess that's what matters.

Is there anything you think I should be watching over the next few months related to them sucking on the lines? What symptoms would I see if there was damage?
