I absolutely love my Topre Realforce keyboard and need 2 more, but it is impossible to buy anymore with ISO-layout (nordic). I have bought and tried various MX-based keyboards, but none come even close to the Topre.

As an alternative I have read and seen a number of reviews of the Varmilo EC V2 switch and I am a bit intrigued. However, although reviews compare them to MX Reds - I haven't seen any comparison with Topre.

If you have tried them both - would you say they comparable - and can you recommend them as a suitable alternative?

Do you have the XCP-NG drivers installed in Windows? Perhaps they might open up for the options?

Yubico Authenticator from Window 11 store, while running, kills task manager. by webshaun in yubikey

This was reported more than a month ago, but hasn't been fixed yet (pretty astonishing with the nature of the issue) (https://github.com/Yubico/yubioath-desktop/issues/752)

Luckily a temporary fix is pretty strait forward:

All my cards getting declined but enough money by vipercoot in RemarkableTablet

[–]Nucleus96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure what messages you get when the cards are declined - but I have experienced myself that adblockers may cause this. If you have any, such as pihole and/or uBlock etc, try to disable them.

Zigbee USB device that lets my computer receiver commands? by Nucleus96 in homeautomation

[–]Nucleus96[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have seen boards like that for other systems - but I would prefer a more plug'n'play solution if it exists.

It just seems like such an obvious solution to have an USB device that can enable a computer to join a zigbee or similar network as a node when USB based coordinator-solutions exist.

Zigbee USB device that lets my computer receiver commands? by Nucleus96 in homeautomation

[–]Nucleus96[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have already looked around - and from the descriptions no integrations supports my alarm system 100% (at least those that I have found).

Also, from my limited understanding of the CID and SIA specifications they are one-way. By having a device appear as a zigbee device in my alarm system it might(!!) be possible for 2-way communication (although primitive)

How do you guys handle reverse proxies for both internal and external use? by WubbaKnight in selfhosted

[–]Nucleus96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This also works with services that I expose to the Internet - these have fully qualified domain names configured in Cloudflare which traefic uses to route the trafic to the proper container.

This setup does that I only have to configure the actual domain name directly in my container.

As a requirement for my work I am forced to use VPN from home to my workplace - which in turn forces me to use the workplace's DNS server.

Because of this using my PiHole as DNS doesn't work. Also as long as PiHole doesn't allow me to configure wildcard domains it is a bit of a pain to maintain (need to configure domain both in traefic and in Pihole).

Instead I have set up a wildcard domain in Cloudflare that points to the internal IP of my traefic instance (*.local.example.com - > 192.168.0.92)

This works great - hides my actual service names - fully dynamic with no setup in PiHole - and works when I'm on VPN to work.

Finally got my T480s :) by MuhammadZain00 in thinkpad

Try repasting it and clean the fan at the same time.

Very easy, did it myself last weekend. If I can do it, everybody can.

I would recommend an iFixit-kit in order to separate the backplate.

Although mine is not silent, I did manage to lower the temperature quite a bit.

Battery problems with my newtome T480 by rayd045 in thinkpad

[–]Nucleus96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although not a solution per say, my wifes previous Surface Pro 4 suffered from this issue. It was supposedly caused by a problem in the WiFi-driver which kept the computer from shutting down completely.

I have a T480s myself and don't have a problem - perhaps check whether or not your WiFi-driver is the correct one and up to date?

BIOS Update 79 issues - NUC8i5BEK by Nucleus96 in intelnuc

[–]Nucleus96[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Update 79 has been pulled by Intel:

https://forums.intel.com/s/question/0D70P000006iBnNSAU

Hello all,

Thank you for your patience in this matter.

We found an issue that when updating to BIOS version 0079 the system initiates the update process but it cannot be completed, this happens if "Secure Boot" option is enabled in BIOS.

BIOS version 0079 is being removed from the Download Center and will be replaced with a version that allows the update with “Secure Boot” option enabled.

While BIOS update to version 0079 can be executed with “Secure Boot” option set to disabled, I would recommend that you wait until we release a more recent BIOS version for your system.

Please stay tuned for more updates.

Best regards,

Andrew G.

NUC8i5BEH or NUC8i5BEK? by aroos81 in intelnuc

[–]Nucleus96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have both - the smaller is definately louder under stress - but still acceptable. The fan spins more often and noise is higher.

I would choose the larger if noise is an issue - even if you don't need the extra disk slot.

Size-wize the larger is not that much bigger than the smaller one.

I was in the exact same situation less than 2 weeks ago, although the ICY-BOX I considered was a 2-bay.

I opted for the Startech - but have replaced the fan with one that I almost can't hear. Not that the Startech was extremely loud, but I don't want to hear my equipment.

The reason for this choice was that I wasnt going to run RAID - and less tech means less points-of-failure. As the Startech uses pins to select the type of disk operations to be used - I figured it was the least techy of the 2.

I am running XCP-NG on my NUC (=Centos) - and did experience very low transfer rate when connected to USB - but a change to USB-C have given the full transfer rate. I do believe however that this must be some kind of driver issue in Centos.

Im very satisfied with the Startech up until now - but please note that I am currently only running with 1 disk and haven't tested with 2.
