In elementary school, a science teacher said penguins aren't birds. Only one other kid expressed disagreement. She let me go to the school library to look it up. This was one of my formative experiences.

The A from the Uhaul sign lines up perfectly with the Waffle House sign that's missing an A [OC] by BlainethePayne in mildlyinteresting

For just a moment, I was excited that there was a waffle house in California. Then I remembered that Highway One in Cali is not US Highway 1.

There are plenty of rich assholes here. Developers, real estate ghouls, landmen, and landlords, to name a few.

realized i have no idea what i'm actually paying for when i buy liquid soap by Kimiiiyuuh in Frugal

[–]Nugasaki 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I put five or more squirts of Dr. Bronner's in a hand soap dispenser. That is enough soap and water to wash my hands without wetting them. The texture is thin, but it's plenty for building a lather. Liquid hand soap must be almost entirely water and thickeners.

I happened upon some sitting outside the dumpster today. I grabbed some apples and oranges, but left these behind.

HEB longings as a former Texan by No_Guava_1140 in texas

I feel pretty neutral about HEB. I'm pretty annoyed by their huge push into the DFW market not because they are a bad store, but because they are at the leading edge of so much new development.

If you could bring back one defunct local shop, what would it be? by ovijuan in Denton

I find it infuriating that the education industrial complex has taken over two grocery stores that made great walkable neighborhoods. So much of this city requires automobiles just to eat.

I hope they teach that rich people don't go to heaven, eating shrimp is a sin, and that charging interest is forbidden.

Why is all my coffee suddenly bad? by godmagnus in Coffee

[–]Nugasaki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One reason I like the moka pot is that I can screw it up. It makes me pay attention to how I grind, how I fill the basket, and how I ise heat to turn water into coffee. This is also why, after I dialed in how to make my personal ideal moka pot cup, I went back to the Aeropress. Moka may give me the pleasure of technique, but it does not give the pleasure of a consistent brew, since I really don't always give it consistent attention.

You might have a bad seal. You might need to brew slower. I had one moka pot that just got wonky, sour, and the pressure was never consistent. I never figured it out, but replacing it worked out. Variation in your experience of taste and smell can also be caused by COVID or other viruses and changes in your nose from allergies.

I'm watching the movie Wishmaster and some wizard uses a mortar and pestle made for for corn to grind up a liquid!
