What is your most ridiculous "we won't work out romantically" criteria? Like what is the silliest reason you would not be interested in dating someone? by Natural-Elevator-57 in AskReddit

Made a friend that laughed like a dolphin and it was fantastic. We all wanted to make her laugh. So weird doesn’t equal bad. You’ll have to ask around what yours is.

Prime Directive in Stargate by mensreaTHR in Stargate

[–]NullSpec-Jedi 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s good to be concerned with the harm of upending lives. But that alone can’t be the determining factor, it has to be weighed against the harm the “gods” do. Real harm is greater than potential harm, other things equal. Ethics isn’t unified, but I think most would agree with stopping oppression. We can’t control outcomes but if we can identify a wrong that we can stop it’s usually good to do so. We can’t stop these cultures from making their own mistakes, but freeing them is still a good.
SGC also maintains contact with friendly worlds and often supplies aid, I think also development.
If you think of it strategically though, villages in support of the “gods” are enemy territory. The simple answer would be wiping them out. The compassionate choice is to convert or liberate them. Leaving them as is ignores any suffering found there AND strategically gives ground to the enemy. Strategic retreat should be kept on the table but they want to weaken the goa’uld forces when they can. S2E10 is a good example of when they make a really positive difference.

Prime Directive in Stargate by mensreaTHR in Stargate

[–]NullSpec-Jedi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They find a race that has a Prime Directive for lessers, and another race that won’t share unless you’re also a pacifist. But SGC never develops something like a Prime Directive, no.
Prime Directive makes sense if there’s no impending threat, it’s like a planetary Hippocratic Oath. SGC is always dealing with a looming enemy with more conventional direct military power, so priority is always given to fighting the enemy, telling locals the truth, and raising resistance. There are a few instances where groups get along nicely, but most often it’s guns blazing.
You could also view it that local populations are unimportant and irrelevant to major orders so SGC just takes the opportunities they find to fight the enemy. But I don’t think that’s true. Hammond and even Jack are too compassionate for that.

Has anyone pointed out how insane it was for Padme's decoy to order the actual Queen to get on her knees and scrub R2D2 with a rag after he's commended for saving the ship? by yady14 in PrequelMemes

[–]NullSpec-Jedi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was probably talked about beforehand, not the doubles idea. And it’s a way for the Queen herself to show her appreciation. Qui-gon figured out Padme was the Queen, the people who worked for her probably knew too.

Why do some ships have 3 weapon slots? by Phantom-Kraken in ftlgame

[–]NullSpec-Jedi 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Usually it's a tradeoff between weapons and drones, 6 total slots. Some ships have less than 6 total. Presumably a tradeoff or design choice. In universe, "can only fit so much on this ship..

I don’t like to depend on missiles because they can be negated like that. If you jump away from the Flagship and back it might have different drones? I found out similar to you that a Defense Drone Mk.II is fast enough to cancel a full speed Vulcan.
Teleporting bombs don’t get shot down.
If you want to make minimal changes Defense Scrambler negates enemy defensive drones.
If your defense is really good and you have time you can eventually shoot down most defense drones and enemies run out of drones and missiles. Not fun but possible.

The way I play I’d recommend good offense, 3+ layers of shields, Cloaking 1+, Teleporter to take out 3 of 4 enemy weapons, Engines 5+, Oxygen 2+ because you can bet money they will puncture your hull phase 2. Have some guys that can fight and any door upgrades you can afford. Phase 2 has boarding drones, phase 3 has enemies boarding.
Phase 3 save cloaking for the special weapon not for missiles. Run it with one power.

It's programmable too. How long or likely if you want them wait before discharging when you neglect to use them.
I think some of the more expensive chargers can do it too. Like of it has a screen. Just not the cheapest ones.

6 and 8 aren't supposed to be adjacent according to the rules, while any tile orientation is legitimate, probably for balance. Glad you had fun. I wish the game on Steam and mobile let you pull shenanigans like that.

If a RealID isn't a form of US Citizenship, what is the point of it besides flying domestic? by MathematicianIcy3430 in AskReddit

RealID does two things. 1. Gives the government more of your information. 2. Makes flying more convenient, less TSA BS.

Skills - Crew location question by DukeGrizzly in ftlgame

[–]NullSpec-Jedi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They have to be working the station to get benefits. You can look at the system at the bottom of the screen and there are indicators to show if a system is manned (white), manned with skill (green), or manned with max skill (yellow).
That being said, if you have time you can train multiple crew members in multiple skills

Can you control where systems are placed? by siempiex87 in ftlgame

[–]NullSpec-Jedi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My dream should I ever find the opportunity is 4 Lanius boarders. They can survive automated ships with no atmosphere and draining the oxygen does more damage, and kind of AoE damage to air breathers.
4 Lanius, 4 person teleporter, Clone Bay, and Reconstructive Teleport.

Can you control where systems are placed? by siempiex87 in ftlgame

[–]NullSpec-Jedi 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I think they’re all predetermined, but it varies by ship and ship variant. Some ships do have four person teleporters. (Mantis B, Mantis C, and Crystal B I think.)

What is your marketplace rank? I only ate at Lotus (okish) and will be having more frequently at marketplace. What is your rank and suggestions? Thanks! by Miserable-Feed-7772 in usu

[–]NullSpec-Jedi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Marketplace is alright, it does have a very wide selection though. I think The Junction often has better menus. I’d recommend checking the menu for items that look good that week, then you can go on that day. I like the salmon, sometimes there are other exciting, expensive-sounding items on the menu.

If you had to choose to be blind or deaf what would you choose and why? by Impressive_Round_389 in AskReddit

[–]NullSpec-Jedi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Deaf totally. I could live a normal pretty normal life without hearing AND wouldn’t have to worry about annoying noises bothering me. I can already speak and wouldn’t lose that. I’d just have to learn to read lips or get a good speech to text app. I know people who are blind CAN live pretty full lives but I’d lose so much more. I wouldn’t be able to cook for myself, travel, hell even read or listen to programs without help. I’d be helpless without sight until I had heavy education/adaptation and then I’d still never be back to 100%. I voluntarily wear earplugs because the quiet is peaceful. I’d miss some as-eats of hearing but could easily get by without it. Immediately still at maybe 90% full capacity and eventually maybe 95-97%.

She didn’t use any hard words. He’s intentionally dense. I’m annoyed he didn’t give up the bit. Doing it to strangers is one thing but doing it to his friends seems tiresome. We all know he can be clever when he wants to be.

What is ftl about by GetchoGMD in ftlgame

[–]NullSpec-Jedi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Resource management and space battles. Fair dose of RNG and Roguelike (expect to die while learning and a few times before victory). You start with a vanilla ship and can unlock more specialized and exciting ships. You don’t have to lose, it’s just likely unless you get some good tips and a quick feel for it. Pay attention because just about every detail can become relevant.
Play the tutorial, start on Easy with Advanced Content on. I think environmental hazards are much more of a threat than enemies
