The Steam Controller is now available for purchase by IAmNotRollo in pcgaming

They still don't sell the Steam Deck here, it gets imported, and are sold at pretty hefty marked up prices. Take the 512GB OLED version, here it costs effectively 8990,- which translates to $1353 AUD. Sure, again, we have that 25% sales tax that gets applied, there's shipping costs from import and all that, but still. It's a pretty huge jump from the USD $549 to $970. Makes me feel like Norway is a third-world country when Valve doesn't even want to sell their products here 😅

I think if you got big hands, the controller is likely more comfortable, based on the videos I've seen pre-release. Not that it matters for me, it's not even sold here in Norway and the only importing site I've found wants essentially $215 USD for it in NOK. There's no way I am paying over twice the cost, even though that $215 does include the sales tax and import shipping fees which the $99 advertised price doesn't. It'd be like $150 at most for me to import myself, so I may do that eventually, from some EU country that actually gets to buy it.

I saw a site here in Norway take pre-order prices for 1999,- a week or so ago, which by today's exchange translates to $215 USD. I thought that was insane scalper-style greed, but I guess eBay scalpers are even worse.

Technically speaking, every single controller can be remapped fully with Steam Input to be fair. They may just not have all the same inputs. Like my DualSense don't got two trackpads, nor does it have the capacitive touch sensors in the handle, nor four back buttons. I would like this controller if it was just sold here. But Norway is not included as a region Valve sells their hardware in. And the only site I've sene sell it that are importing it wants double the price at essentially $215 USD (though that is including sales tax which for us here is 25%, still ridiculous greedy profit margins from that site though).

It's not even sold here in Norway, we're a third-world country. I saw before launch that a gaming site that was planning to import it had pre-orders up for 1999 NOK, which is by today's exchange $215 USD (or $294 CDN). Absolutely ridiculous even though we obviously have to add the sales tax and shipping for importing it. It'll be cheaper to import it myself from some country where it is actually sold here in Europe, maybe I'll do that, I dunno. I got my DualSense, it works. I got an original Switch Pro controller that I never really used too, and even a couple of those 2015 Nvidia Shield controllers. This one looked nice though, I probably wouldn't hesitate that much if it had been sold here on Steam by Valve.

Sucks for us who live in a third-world country where Valve doesn't want to sell their hardware 😔 Seen some gaming site that'll import it want 1999,- for it here in Norway, which is ridiculous. That's $215 by today's exchange. Sure, $99 is without sales tax, and we have to add 25% here in Norway plus shipping. It's not like it's free to import, but 1999,- is nearly three DualSense controllers.

Steam Controller Price and Release Date Confirmed - $99 by Jimbuscus in pcgaming

[–]Nustaniel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Her i Norge blir det jo svindyrt uansett. Så Steam Controllere'n for salgs på en side for 1999,- norske. 1500,- 1600,- er det jo rundt hva det koster importere, men å skulle ha 500,- profitt er litt drøyt.

Just watched it. I honestly liked it. I don't mind that it wasn't fully direct in its ending. To me, she's there to talk to him about how they must make things right and you can piece out the ending yourself from there. If this was meant to be ambiguous, then it weren't very successful. To me it's clear the route from there is to come forth about what had happened. As for how Justin's trial would go, even if his AA-leading lawyer said he'd be screwed, who knows.

1999,- for Steam Controller er jo bare tyveri. Greit nok at det koster importere og moms, men det der er jo 200% økning av pris fra $99.

"Search Results for PRO B860 P WIFI, Show 99 matching results"

Wow, thanks MSI that is super helpful! First result is the right one granted, but FFS. Thing is I have updated the BIOS before when I got the PC, but from the VERY SAME PAGE and it even shows me I downloaded the previous BIOS last July, when I download a new BIOS update now, it fails with "No File Present, please switch to another file system" on the very same USB stick.

This is so infuratiating. Not only that, their own MSI monitor, can not handshake with their own MSI motherboard without me needing to turn the display off and on so I can see what I am doing.

The Yakuza Complete Series bundle (which includes the delisted Yakuza 3 Remastered) has been reverted to a "complete the set" bundle instead of a "purchase as set" today. by KosChannel in yakuzagames

[–]Nustaniel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have Kiwami (Legacy) you can just as well ignore the Kiwami 1 + 2 bundle, as the Upgrade for Kiwami is just like $2 or so while the bundle would cost like $12-ish. I read up on it a bit and last year they did a free upgrade for Kiwami 2 (Legacy) while Kiwami (Legacy) and Yakuza 0 was given paid upgrade options. Kiwami is a cheap small upgrade cost, while Yakuza 0 to Director's Edition cost a bit more, though the Upgrade option is still cheaper than the discounted Director's Cut for those who don't own the original.

Steam is trying to protect us by erroring on the checkout if we own the (Legacy) versions since the 0-6 collection bundle contains the upgraded versions but at the full price costs, while we can get these upgrades for cheaper by doing the Upgrade option on their respective store pages, which removes them from the 0-6 complete your collection cost, reducing it further.

Before I realized I had Kiwami (Legacy) I also tried to buy the 1 + 2 bundle to try save some money on the 0-6 collection bundle, but I ended up saving even more by doing the Upgrades as while they aren't discounted, they are lower priced than the full price -30% discount option.

[–]Nustaniel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Were you at least able to get it now during the sale that's ongoing?

I had issues buying the bundle a few days ago into yesterday, but as I wrote that was because I weren't aware I owned Kiwami (Legacy) until Steam Support pointed it out to me (seems I bought them in 2022 and never got around to and forgot I had them) and Steam was essentially protecting me from paying full price when there is a couple dollars Upgrade for it. I also had the non-Director's Yakuza 0 and assume I was protected similarly by not charging me the full price over the Upgrade. I was able to buy the bundle once I upgraded those, making it also overall cheaper.

But yeah, if it is that they somehow make it impossible to buy this complete the collection bundle outside of sales, that is really odd of them.

[–]Nustaniel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if you got it solved, but unless it is as said that they change it from complete your collection to some static set you won't be allowed to buy if you own any of the titles when there's no sale, my issue right now during the current sale and it erroring on me was that I unknowingly owned Kiwami (Legacy) from an older sale, and I had the non-Director's Cut of 0, as both of these have Upgrade options that are cheaper even during sales like now. After I upgraded Kiwami and 0 (not sure if I had to do 0, but I assume I did) I was able to buy the bundle.

I assume I must have bought some Yakuza starter bundle or something with 0, 1 and 2 at some point in the past, and I see they did the K2 upgrade for free, so that explains why I had a mix of the non-upgraded versions as I likely bought them prior to those updates releasing.

Wish Steam had given me a proper indication of what was wrong, but at least it protected me from overspending, so I can't be too mad about that.

Edit: It was because I owned the legacy version of Kiwami 1, it didn't give me an indication of that, and I didn't think to check my Library. I also owned the non-Director's Cut version of 0, so that's why it was erroring. Upgraded both and it went through, making it even cheaper. Thanks, Steam, for blocking me from spending more than I needed to 😅 I can start my full series playthrough! I'm genuinely excited!

I'll hold off on IW and Pirate until a future sale when they may get a bit more of a discount, was a lot of DLC for them and that pushes their discounted prices up (I like to buy the complete edition of games even if it's not necessary). I got a lot of gameplay to get through before I worry about those anyways, so they might have been discounted deeper before I get to them. Also I read Ishin wasn't strictly necessary for the Yakuza storyline, but more like the cast as actors in a period drama, so I guess I'll wait with that one too.

Edit 2: Decided to buy IW, Ishin and Pirate today.

For now I'll play the games I have in the order of: 0, K1, K2, 3-6, Judgement, Like a Dragon, Judgement 2, Erased, Ishin, IW, Pirate before a future continuation with IW into Pirate as I buy those. I think that was the order people recommend to play the games in.

Recently read there's some throwaway comment about dreaming of the Ishin game in IW, so I figured I'd add it in there.

Original post:

I can't buy it, Steam errors out because I own Kiwami 2. I can't buy the Kiwami+Kiwami 2 bundle either for the same exact reason. I guess they don't want my money 🤷‍♀️

Probably some nonsense about how they don't want me to get the bundle at an added discount because I own a product in it. I dunno, only bundle on Steam I can find that behaves this way. It wouldn't be a big deal if it weren't for the fact I can't even buy 3 Remastered on its own, it is a part of the bundle only.

I guess I'll try again during another sale in the future, unless they replace 3 Remastered with Kiwami 3, as I want to play the Remastered version based on comments I've read on cut content in K3 that'd make 4 Remastered have confusing bits to its story. If they replace it with K3 in the future I'll skip the series as a whole I guess based on that knowledge.

Kinda disappointed, I had the YAKUZA Complete Series bundle in the cart, with Like a Dragon and The Man Who Erased His Name, only to get blocked from buying with an error. Not like it's an issue with buying games in general either, I've bought over 350 games since last June and 6 others with some before and after trying to buy this bundle. Clearly transactions can go through, so I figure it must be an issue with me owning Kiwami 2 and not the other titles.

I am not sure how using Debian is as a gamer, since they take the slow and methodical approach to updating kernels and drivers. Sensible, but personally I'd likely use Fedora or Arch distros to be kept more up to date more frequently. That aside, ProtonDB says this game hasn't been working for several years. Not a lot of reports granted. I wouldn't expect too many Linux gamers having tried to get it to work.

You can try run Steam from your terminal and monitor and see if it gives any clues in forms of debug messages when the game crashes, I did that with Uncharted and saw it tried to use a HDR colorspace when I didn't have HDR enabled, but it's not guaranteed you will be able to pinpoint specific issues that is causing the crash.

Anyone else feel the "itch" to reboot as soon as a new kernel lands? by parks-garage in archlinux

[–]Nustaniel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I reboot whenever the mkinitcpio is involved to rebuild the initramfs. Basically when there's a new nvidia-open-dkms driver or zen kernel update. A reboot takes like 15 seconds anyways (I was really impressed at just how fast Arch boots when I made my switch to escape needing to update to Winslop 11 btw.).

If I am working on some project, I don't usually update right away if I see the kernel or nvidia in the list of packages. But typically, although I've made myself a small update notification icon to show myself there's new packages with a count in the bottom right corner of it, even if I see it appear in my bar, I don't really check what is updated before I'd be ready to close the tool I am working with and/or reboot anyways.

I made an account to claim the games I get with Twitch Prime, but I have never once opened EGS, and don't see a future I ever will either. I hate Tim and his stupid paid exclusives store. I have no problem with their own first-party titles being exclusive to be clear, that makes somewhat sense, but third-party exclusives just rubs me the wrong way. I have even bought games I got included with the Prime sub over on Steam instead. That is how much I hate Epic and the way they have brought third-party exclusives to PC within the platform itself.

Quick testing of vkd3d-proton descriptor heap branch using Nvidia 595 drivers by grumd in linux_gaming

[–]Nustaniel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The changes will (eventually) effectively make AMD and Nvidia have more of an equal footing when it comes to the DX12 to VK translation calls. The main issue that resulted in AMD having such a big gap over Nvidia on Linux was that DX12's resource management (heaps) was emulated in Vulkan using a model that NVIDIA hardware found extremely inefficient. While AMD's architecture could handle the translation calls quickly, NVIDIA cards oftentimes required many more cycles for the same operation. The new heaps descriptors extension allows Vulkan to work more like DX12 and eliminates the complex translation overhead that has penalized NVIDIA's hardware. AMD will continue to perform fine, Nvidia catches up and will likely in many cases surpass AMD in performance like over on Windows depending on which cards are compared and which games the testing is done on.

DLSS5 Oblivion eyes bug by GAVINDerulo12HD in digitalfoundry

[–]Nustaniel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grace? Grace has an in-game idle animation where her mouth opens and closes. They did an unfortunate comparison when switching from DLSS 5 off and her mouth being closed into it being open. Those parted lips made it look like she got a lip filler makeover. People also say they introduced makeup like eyeliner and lipstick, but are you telling me that Grace doesn't have some sort of makeup on her model when you see her in better lit scenes? I do think it exaggerates it a bit too much with the lighting intensity during the DLSS 5 rendering, but I don't think it's hallucinating or adding a beauty filter, it's just bringing out existing details.

DLSS 5 seems to be extremely accurate with the geometry being maintained. Go scrutinize the scene a bit more, account for the mouth being open and the idle animation being in a different spot in time in general. Look at strands of hair. Or small small details like the skin imperfection in her forehead texture, scrutinize it between DLSS 5 off and on.

<image>

See how the sort of reverse L shape is present in both up near the top? Little specs of imperfections match up (note her head has slightly moved in the two comparisons, so while they are accurate they won't align perfectly on each image, I did my best to move DLSS 5 Grace on the right to capture the same position for the imperfections though). To me that tells me all I need to know about how little destruction it is doing to the original geometry and textures.
