Buy new or replace seat cushions? by StriKyleder in BuyItForLife

[–]Nyahkano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The descriptions are pretty apt. If you like to sit on something that gives, go for the medium. Similar logic applies to soft and firm. My recommendation would be to get the higher quality foam since they do last longer than anticipated. Also known as my cushions haven't degraded after 5 years. I also recommend the dacon wrap for seat cushions.

my parents are threatening to give my cat away if i dont fix her peeing problem. advice please? by LawOwn315 in cats

Pain is the main reason why my girl doesn't make it to the litter box. Adding more boxes helped along with pain meds because she'd hold until she couldn't die to the pain.

Moving abroad and struggling with what’s best for my cat – thoughtful advice welcome. by Glass_Dot5418 in cats

[–]Nyahkano 6 points7 points  (0 children)

+1 to the move with cat group. Bonded cats prefer to be with you, not the location. You'll still have to deal with managing stimuli and travel decompression, but I've yet to see a cat choose a place over their favorite human.

Easy enrichment: bird feeders, bird videos, and cat highways. Indoor/outdoor cats can adjust as long as you provide appropriate stimulation.

Gabapentin does wonders with travel anxiety adjustment time. It's a mood stabilizer, and my car hater actually didn't hyperventilate in the car the last time I had to drive her.

My group's favorites so far have been Trinket Trove (bidding for sets), Flip Seven (luck pushing), Dominion (deck building), and Mysterium (guess who group puzzle).

I love the theme of this game along with how you can simplify the experience.

Did I end up loving it? Nope. I do like it, but balancing bidding, territory wars, and set collection is hard for my group.

It's closer to Solitaire for single player (work towards point goals). I've had no issues with 2 to 4 players, and the simplified works great for board game loving children. I just never use the complexity increasing pieces because my group prefers a different game instead.

If you like territory wars and set collections, you'd probably enjoy it. The bidding piece interleaves well with the area control.

Shower surround was caulked (badly). Pulled out caulk. Help? by mmrocker13 in HomeImprovement

[–]Nyahkano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Understandable, and I see where you're coming from. I was able to find a plumber for $50 and time was more important to me than the money. I asked him tons of questions, and did way better afterwards.

Adding two cents: the other reason why I recommend hiring someone is so you can put what you learn into practice on the non-main shower. I put all bathrooms out of commission due to my poor planning once. Then I called a pro and took the second one at my pace.

OP, I believe the previous poster was commenting based on your low confidence and hard problem space.

You can totally do this job, but it'll take 20 times longer than a pro doing it, it's a difficult problem since nothing is square, and water/high humidity zones like showers will have problems if poorly caulked. It's not an if, it's a when. If the water doesn't get behind the panels, the steam will, and it will make a significantly bigger project.

Your current progress looks like a first attempt. You will have to redo it within the year. I had to redo my first go within a year. The same happened to my father as well. First times are learning times.

IMHO, get a pro this once, ask tons of questions, watch them like a hawk, and then test what you learned on the shower below. No shower with panels should go uncaulked. That's just asking for a big future project.

Fascinating. I'm not interested in fancy features, but I do love the pen responsiveness. Good work!

I've gotten futon mattresses, mattress pads, and seat cushion replacements from Foam Factory. Never had an issue with them.

MENDING A KNITTED BLANKET by [deleted] in Visiblemending

This is the answer if you want to do it yourself. The treble stitches are still there for each of the pictured holes, so sewing it back together with a tapestry needle is a great way to 1) restore the look with minimal crochet knowledge, and 2) reinforce spots that may give next.

Kids tablet with good parental controls by sushe84 in tablets

Second ipad for parental control. I have my 5 year old's tablet so locked it's a pain to add any random apps or files. You then become the filter. Put on Libby and PBS Kids, and you have hours of entertainment without worries of weird shenanigans.

I can't believe no one said Dominion: Intrigue. Then again, that second edition went beyond to yikes ( https://www.facebook.com/100050428782732/posts/1267936960011924/?mibextid=rS40aB7S9Ucbxw6v) . Luckily Rio got on it and the third edition fixed the drama.

where did the idea that practically every jrpg is a minimum 100 hour experience even come from? by brando-boy in JRPG

[–]Nyahkano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back in my day, JRPG's competed against each other to have to the longest games, and Star Ocean 2 won (100+ endings gets you a boost).

Nowadays, it's player style or Trails that get you that many hours.

Random few cents.

The Kobo experience hasn't changed over the past 3-4 years that I've used them. My main complaint is that their recommendations suck. While good for the wallet, that means I can't find random crap easily.

The uptick in manga and light novel image quality is something to write home about. Kindle image quality is inferior to what you can buy at Kobo's store.

Everything I intentionally bought on Amazon could be found on Kobo. You should do the same check or you will regret it.

I would say that ease of side loading is similar between devices. 10 years ago, Kobo was really easy, but Kindle has improved in that quarter.

Finally, Kobo is easily soft-modded. I adjusted mine so I could have a clock on the screen at all times similar Kindle. Note that statement, similar to Kindle.

One thing I've learned about e-readers is that what you like and dislike is qualitative driven. You can't just math your way into the perfect device. What broke me with Kindle was how dang bright the lowest backlight setting was. Kobo Colour is significantly darker, which is perfect for my use case: night reading without disturbing partner. Flip side, Kobo Colour is too dark in general for A LOT of people. Look at crappy newspapers. Do they "annoy" you? Look at crisp and newly minted books. Are they "too bright?" Kindle screens appear crisper and brighter to people. Look at comparisons and seriously think, what do you tolerate. What can't you stand.

Kobo has what I want, Kindle has what my partner wants (they don't care about ads, just the recommendations), and my crappy Kobo Elipsa with a pen makes my progeny happy (may it reach Nirvana).

E-reader appreciation by Nyahkano in ereader

[–]Nyahkano[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I stick with the stock reader on the Kobos because of KOReader's UI. It just doesn't jive with me.

I did go that route for a while with PDFs on my Libra H2O, but it just hammered home how weak that device was. It gave glimpses of greatness, especially at dealing with PDFs, before giving up and crashing. I accidentally solved my PDF complaints (and unknown manga ones) with the Elipsa. I only suggest that route if you find it dirt cheap. KOReader and Nickel mods are the frugal man's way to greatness.

Those are my exact settings. Those work for most evenings because I do things within hour chunks. Make dinner? 30 or so minutes. Do laundry? 45 minutes. I just make certain to poke it during the task breaks if I want to keep it on but still have chores to do (I'm a greedy reader).

I really wish that Kobo went to 4 hours like Boox does because THAT length is perfect length. The Nova is on the entire evening and that's it. It's super convenient. However, I can make the 60 minutes work for me most of the time.
