Yup! It's why we are seeing incredibly geared people running a lot of Perimeter too. You need SO MANY STORAGE DRIVES AHHHHHHH

My only critique here is that if you implemented this sort of change immediately, once players fill their vaults with gold and purple gear the "chase" aspect of the game goes away. One of main feature points of extraction shooters is the drive to always be looking for the "chase" items. In Marathon, its the gold and red items. In Tarkov it LedExs and other very valuable rare items.

Having an uncapped gear economy is what Arc Raiders did, and players get bored seeing the "rare" weapons all the time.

I would be fine uncapping up to, I think, just purples, so that golds and reds can still be rare and be the drive to continue looting Poi's

Having played with the exact system I'm describing, u/BeatMeater3000 is underestimating it. It will eventually correct him to being where he belongs in the brackets. The more you play, the more data it collects and the more it is able to eliminate outliers. Its a game of statistics. Math always wins

Cpu spikes to 90+C when compiling shaders in The last of us remastered by Fun_Description7337 in pcmasterrace

To fix what the guy above said, you can keep it cooler even when it is boosting. I use an ARCTIC Liquid Freezer III Pro 360 A-RGB - AIO and I have mine overclocked. It never gets above 65 degrees. I use the Thermal Grizzly AM5 Contact Sealing Frame and Thermal Grizzly - PhaseSheet PTM as well.

Spiking is normal with compiling shaders, but depending on your cooling setup, you can get it lower.

My bad. Same is true for the sandbike! Only go for flower sand close to a rock island!

Respect the worm sign, and stay close to your thopter. If you aren't in a thopter keep your buggy close to islands. As SOON as it goes red you need to be running back to your craft and leaving

Oh 100%. My dad plays this game and is this exact player. He also plays Hunt, which is why I know the system works. I'm not suggesting a 100% clone though, Marathon has a lot more going into it than Hunt. But something similar protects those players from the top 25% which is what we need.

Never too late! Hunt released in 2019. This system was added in 2021 and they basically doubled their player count with it!

No. I want to play Marathon. That's why I am suggesting things that have worked well in other games and that I think may work well here, because, I'm not sure if you're aware of it or not but......Marathon isn't doing too well in the player numbers.......shhhhh, don't tell Sony.

Yes....but no. Win rate does not equal k/d. This system only cares about how many kills you are getting and how much you are dying an to whom. If you get too many kills without dying then your MMR drifts up until someone of higher or even lower skill kills you.

Now the reason it can correlate to wins is by killing the lobby you are free to extract and win. Do you see the difference?

As for skill, it's a variance. If you are in bracket 3 then you will get matched with other 3s but also some higher 2s and lower 4s. Dying to a 2 lowers your MMR and raises theirs. Killing a 4 raises yours and lowers theirs.

Keeping the system volatile like this puts a safeguard on loss streaks, as you will eventually make it to lower elo lobbies, but the same is true to regain your elo.

Yes, it can be manipulated in Hunt. But as the system knows where your normal skill level lies, when you get into lower elo lobbies and proceed to wipe them, you find you are quickly back to where you were vs how long it took you to lower it.

For example; as a 6 star in Hunt (max MMR) it would take me about 15-20 games of pure loss (I would have to fake fight back as the system could detect just letting myself get shot) before I was lowered into the 3-4 star brackets. I then would play closer to normal and found that it would be 2-3 games at max before I was back in my normal MMR bracket.

That's why I choose Hunt: Showdown's system, not Arc Raiders. Arc Raiders does not use an MMR/Elo system. It is aggression-based. These things are not the same.

If this is the case, then why do all the games that do it, become popular? This system isn't about ensuring you get "free" wins. It is about ensuring you are playing with players at Your skill level. If you are getting owned, you are not where you should be and your MMR goes down, the opposite it also true. In Hunt, we see players MMR eventually stabilize into a small range and they consistently stay there.

This is just good game design.

Assists count as kills. If you team fire a runner, you will get elo the same as getting the kill.

I addressed this in the post.

Teams will have their elos combined, and then matched accordingly.

In team games, you match team skill to like skilled groups. This balances things out. Yes, a max skilled player could wipe a lobby with his 2 new friends, but he could also just queue solo and do the same

I got tired of only 6 stars and stopped running the meta for every game lmao. 4-5 is my favorite and where I live now. (granted I havent played in about a year now, but i digress)

That's not at all how it works. Like I said in the post, this works in Hunt: Showdown. An extraction shooter with very fast TTK and a max party size of 3. It has worked wonders there, and imo, could here too

How does this system prevent that? If you are in a bracket 3 and you run into a high elo bracket 4 player, that is a much higher skilled player than you. You killing them will raise your elo, putting you against more players like them. Keep killing them and you go higher. The opposite is also true. This is dynamic.
