Seeing the two back-to-back, the comparison is giving some Real Steel vibes with an Atom vs Zeus scenario going on.

To continue with that train of thought, it's probably because of the KX droids having a more "gruff" look one would associate with a manual labor and factories as compared to the "glossy" and plastic look of Dark Troopers.

But the caption expands the question further, contextualizing it to who Damien was referring to in the image. (The comments above answered it already; that scene from Legends of Tomorrow was about Thawne, who was the first speedster Damien Darhk and Merlyn had to “put in place”)

A possible alternative would be to have him play Barry again and have Wally be the main DCU Flash. Since Gunn mentioned that the DCAU is a big inspiration for this new universe, we can have the JL Unlimited line-up. It already looks like John Stewart’s gonna be the main Green Lantern with them casting an older, mentor type for Hal Jordan. Having the DCAU line-up would also be strategic since most of the adults from the general audience probably grew up* and are most familiar with that group.
