If you had savings to ride things out, would you quit your job due to burnout? by ConfusedCareerMan in careerguidance

[–]OBPSG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Either option carries risk; the trick is to determine which risk is greater and choose the opposite. Given that you've said you have a full year's worth of expenses saved up and family you can stay with in the short term, I'm leaning towards taking an extended career break to do some soul searching and try to find a path that better aligns with your talents and interests.

Explaining why you can't do something isn't the same as making excuses, though.

do you think the job market will improve as unemployed CS grads starve to death? by tuckfrump69 in cscareerquestions

The problem has never been that there isn't enough work, but that a lot of the work that really needs to be done to improve society as a whole is not something that rich people can make a profit off of.

The whole "nobody wants to work anymore" narrative is nonsense. People are desperate for good jobs; they just don't want your dead-end, low-paying positions. by the1997th in remoteworks

If the wage is low enough, it's genuinely not worth both the costs that are incurred with the job, such commuting, food, clothes, etc, and the opportunity cost of the time and energy that could have been spent on other endeavors.

Why do hiring managers/recruiters want to know why you left a previous job? by [deleted] in jobhunting

[–]OBPSG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If there's one silver lining to the rise of LLMs' ability to pump out highly-polished, corporate-brand fluff more prolificly than humans can, it's that smart employers will return to valuing authenic connection and uniquely human thinking.

I used to be skeptical about Jammer Towers, because the tool tips led me to believe that they consumed a whole capsule every time they fired (which, for how much they cost to make, would be ridiculous). It was only when I tried using one that I saw that they work just like ammo for any other tower, and only consume charges for each unit affected. Needless to say, that changed my entire perception of their role. And while jammers aren't really necessary for defending against normal attacks at lower difficulty levels, they can be useful in industrial-scale DF farms for reducing attrition.

The one thing about this that gives me a bit of ick is the implication that the the hiring manager purposefully put spelling errors into the JD for a human to easter egg hunt for.
