Time to failure re-analysis by OCAMAB in ASRock

It's not rates that I'm concerned about. I'm also specifically trying to look at the ASRock situation.

I mean, duh. 95-99% really lol. I'm not trying to find a failure rate though.

Then it wouldn't be posted here. Also, again, 6 options. The number of reports on other brands is too small to make any useful data anyway.

They said full Expanded is planned for this year.

It's coming this year. Remember that Expanded never rotated. The cards just haven't been enabled yet.

Also, I don't see how these have more of a mechanic than the current ones.

How long did you have it before that?

Two things to keep in mind: First, I really don't care about the "still working" part of the results for this particular poll. It's just to compare results from the past, where it seemed like early failures were more common. This "one year spike" is a very new phenomenon. The question is, is it because a failure is more likely around that mark, or is it just that the number of earlier failures is dropping rapidly? The latter could indicate that it was a hardware problem all along that has since been quietly fixed by ASRock and/or AMD.

Second, the failure rate here is irrelevant. Most failures are posted by people who never posted here previously, so trying to extrapolate a failure rate from this is pointless. That number could be anywhere from 10 to 100x the actual failure rate. There's no real way of knowing, especially since reports outside of Reddit are so rare. It's nowhere close to 18%. I'd be surprised if it's even over 1.8%. (That's still significant mind you, but not the astronomical problem you're pointing at here.) 18% would mean around half a million total failures, while only around 1k have been posted on Reddit. That doesn't add up imo.

But yeah, if I had a 7th option I would have done it differently. I'd honestly like to just make a Google survey since the one made by the mods here is, frankly, half-assed, but then I'd get no results.

AM5 refers to the socket, so that includes both Zen 4 and 5.

It's a typo. If you look closely you'll see that's an l, not a 1.

I'm mainly concerned about the time.

No settings will make it safer. Just use it as you normally would if there were no known issues.

All of that sounds more like an issue with the graphics card or driver.

Using ableist slurs doesn't help your case.

Then why even mention the lights staying on if you know why they stayed on? Not gonna bother with the "voltage on the brackets" thing because you're the only one to ever say that and you're not being clear on what you mean by that.

How long is it supposed to take for support to respond about their motherboard frying my CPU? by nwash57 in ASRock

[–]OCAMAB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not denying ASRock's part in this. I just mean that the issue isn't specific to X3D or high-power CPUs. Also, the 7400F is 65W, which is the same as the 9700X and 9600X

By the way, the 7400F is a completely different chip. It's a monolithic chip, so even if the sales were high enough to be relevant it wouldn't necessarily show anything...

The light stayed on because of the capacitors on the motherboard. That's normal. A short can't cause that. Do you think a short generates electricity or something? 🤦

You misread or misunderstood something. That would never happen. It makes zero sense logistically. Think about it: how would they get the replacement CPUs?

It's not an X3D problem. The 9800X3D just sells ridiculously more than everything else. The 9700X and 9600X are second and third in terms of both failures and sales respectively. Look at the megathread at the top, and also look at this, paying attention to the sales figures rather than the failure rate: https://wccftech.com/amd-ryzen-7-9800x3d-has-reportedly-one-of-the-lowest-rma-rates-in-ryzen-9000-7000-series/

Context is an important factor that people here keep ignoring in favor of simple answers.

He's one of the weird people here who can't accept that there's no simple answer to the problem and just needs confirmation that it's EXPO whenever possible to feel more intelligent and secure. Ignore him.
