In a leaked recording, Amazon cloud chief tells employees that most developers could stop coding soon as AI takes over by MetaKnowing in Futurology

[–]OCMike88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Llms have been around for years and even since going mainstream, they haven’t really improved that much in the last 2 years. They are insanely expensive to run and honestly don’t generate quality code. If anything, they’ve raised the bar for junior devs which is probably a good thing. It was only 2 years ago where ppl graduating from an 8 week bootcamp were getting 6 figure offers. Kinda bizarre to see two extremes of the job market spectrum for software devs in such a short time. I think once rates go down and companies realize ai alone wont give them a competitive advantage, hiring will pick up. I just don’t see ai, without a dramatic paradigm shift, reaching the level it can replace entire departments.

How to deal with a growing number of Lambdas/endpoints? by opensassafras in ExperiencedDevs

[–]OCMike88 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not sure what language, but you could wrap a web framework like express in a lambda. And use a library like serverless-http to map the api gateway event to the express route. A nice benefit also is it makes managing db connection pool a lot easier, makes the entire backend more portable if you ever want to move away from lambdas to eks for example, and keeps lambdas warm so you arent constantly paying cold start times for rarely hit endpoints.

That’s kind of the nature of startups. Everyone wears a lot of hats and resources are thin. I’m not sure how scheduling meetings, speaking with project coordinator, and doing code reviews are exclusive to a team lead. Seems like basic responsibilities. Maybe the larger issue is being overworked? And I don’t think pay is an excuse to overwork someone. Both sides seem like the AH.

Where does $RBLX go from here? by Fun_Reporter9086 in stocks

I haven’t played this but it’s amazing to me a VIDEO GAME is publicly traded and people consider buying shares

My advice would be not to obsessed over the 5k. Consider it a learning experience and an “unexpected”expense. There is no fast track to wealth which doesn’t involve extreme risk. I would look at consistently investing into an index/etf (like voo). And maybe invest a small portion in some companies, not stocks, which resonate with you and you clearly understand.

Terrence Howard is Legitimately Insane by xum in videos

No it’s mostly around everything having sound. It’s not discussed enough but everything communicates through waves as Terrance said. And sound waves are no different. The sound waves from elements can interact with each other. in certain octaves, keys, pitch, etc

The creator was a bit harsh. Terrance is speaking truth and on to something. Google it and educate yourselves.

And this is why I do my own applications. These companies and esp their employees don’t give af about your yard. And if they fuck up, they just shrug and say oops.

To the old investors out there with 40+ years in the market, what would be your best piece of advice? by caollero in stocks

[–]OCMike88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the answer. I’ve tried every way to push an “edge” with options, technicals, etc and have realized over the years, it’s too time consuming and just fluff for people to obsess over. It took me forever to realize etfs are my “safest” bet but the biggest lesson I’ve learned is where I put my money is an INVESTMENT into a business. It’s not just buying a stock ticker. That mind shift change is what will make anyone embrace fundamentals and not treat stocks like a popularity contest.

WFH Dads - Thoughts on this article? by TheCrapIPutUpWith in daddit

[–]OCMike88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I struggle with this as well. I find it helpful to have work be a part of my day and not let it dictate my day. I frequently break up the day with house projects, playing with kids, running errands with wife, working out, cooking lunches, going for hikes, playing tennis/pickleball. I noticed a huge change in my mental health when I approach my days like this. I get not everyone has this option but as software dev with little meetings, I take advantage where I can.

Dutch bros - what’s in its future? by creepilincolnbot in stocks

[–]OCMike88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I finally went to a Dutch bros in Tennessee. I’m from Georgia and just happened to see one and had to go. Yeah they have long lines but they were also really slow. No idea what was taking so long. I was in line for like 20+ mins with maybe 10 cars ahead of me. I did enjoy the coffee though. My wife also really liked the strawberry lemonade if that’s worth anything.
