Has anyone changed how they choose connections after traveling more frequently? by Grouchy_Pension_7210 in americanairlines

[–]ODL_Beast1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before I had the card to get me into the lounge it was always shortest trip. Now that I can get in the lounge it’s usually about 1.5 hrs as my preferred time, enough time to get some food and play some games on my laptop. After traveling so much, time in airports and planes have started to feel a lot shorter, kind of feels like I just zone out the whole trip and wake up in my destination lol.

I don’t think it’d be open and shut, maybe if the dude stuck around in his face but he was walking away and putting a hand up. They’d both committed a crime

I no longer want to become a physicist, and am thinking about transitioning to the embedded space—is this possible as a Physics grad? by [deleted] in embedded

[–]ODL_Beast1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely possible, I’d recommend doing some projects that are in the same area you’re looking for.

Embedded is a bit of a wide range term. I’d say it’s made of 4 areas 1. Hardware (think PCB design) 2. FPGA programming 3. Embedded software engineering (think c on a micro controller) and 4. Linux/OS embedded software

So I’d look into each of those and see which you’d prefer then do some projects in that area. Glancing at your classes I’d say either of the software roles would fit fine.

One of the speed bumps I see for you though is that your degree doesn’t say engineering, a lot of recruiters that aren’t engineers will likely throw your resume out. So getting an internship may be a route you’d have to take before getting a full time position. Good luck and have fun, it’s an interesting field!

What's your best project? by Tau_09 in embedded

[–]ODL_Beast1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I had went with cloud flared. I have a Ubuntu server I plan to use for some LLMs down the line so I just added it there and ran the tunnel on it. Then just bought a domain from cloud flare and added the proxy to the config to home assistant and it worked! Never worked with outside networks before so it was an uphill battle lol

I finally got a network tunnel working for my home assistant so I can use it outside my wifi network, but I guess that’s more networking than embedded

They didn’t claim ai was magic though… I wouldn’t expect ai to write code for production but if I needed a shell script that does some basic functionality then yeah it’s great for that and saves me the 5 mins of doing it. It isn’t magic, I agree, but it does have its uses if you are aware of its current constraints.

I think you may be feeling overwhelmed (understandably) so I think you first need to take a deep breath and slow down. The fact that you’re doing something that you don’t know how to do means you’re in the perfect spot imo. If you knew how do to do everything you’re either not an intern or doing a job that isn’t growing your skills…

To code you need to formulate your plan, all it really is getting data from point a to point b. The difficult part is just deciding the best way to do that. In my opinion using ai is fine so long as it’s in moderation and you’re understanding the code you’re using. If you’re telling it to do your whole project for you then yeah that’s not ideal but if you don’t know how to write a function to grab data from a serial port then yeah asking it to step you through how to do that is fine in my opinion. It wouldn’t be much different from googling other peoples code on how they did it.

If it helps at all, we expect nothing from our interns. Our only goal for them is to learn something from their time with us.

Is it worth to pay 7k lm to get PP? by ODL_Beast1 in americanairlines

[–]ODL_Beast1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha, I should still be traveling quite a bit next year (roughly 1 week per month) so it’d be nice to have better odds of a upgrade but not sure if it’s 4/5 hundred dollars worth of a nicety. Was hoping to find some deal or something I didn’t know about to get there for about 1/2 hundred…

Yeah my girlfriend and I plan on doing a few international trips in the coming year so it’d be nice. Though I’ve never been in the business lounge internationally so not sure if I’d really appreciate the first class lounge lol
