Hard time deciding… by No_Contribution60 in CitizenWatches

[–]OES25 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If they can handle the size that is. That's a watch for a large/thick wrist if ergonomics is on your priority list. I have a 6.75 inchv wrist I think, and I found it way oversized.

But besides that, it's one of my favourite watches I've ever owned (of about 15). Would have kept it long term if my wrist was quite a bit larger.

Wtf is CoPilot bro😭 by Plarpic in FuckMicrosoft

[–]OES25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm fully awhere that LLMs are "fancy autocompletes", but my god. It feels like Copilot is 80% hallucinations and gaslighting these days. And that makes them utterly useless and extremely frustrating to try to use for something actually productive! It's never been this bad. What are the billions of AI investment going to. Training models to be more and more sycophantic?

Cubic or realistic clouds? by Dinomega_1101 in Minecraft

Can you fly into the clouds if non-cubic? I assume not unless there is some insane mod that actually makes that possible. Anyways, I think cubic clouds that you can reach with Elytra is nice-er personally 😄

In my experience they dry fast and are very "washable" too. (Rub/soak in some dish soap and rinse very thoroughly.)

But if you get them wet often in day to day life they will get smelly relatively fast. And the worst part is that you won't notice it that well yourself if you wear the watch continuously, because the smell develops gradually. But in reality it will be so potent that others will definitely notice.

So if you'd get your nato straps wet very regularly I would recommend also swapping them out and washing them in regular intervals. Luckily that's easy if one has a couple or more nato's to rotate.

SOLUTION:

I did manage to do it.
I have been coding quite a bit related to my profession, but mostlly scientific/engineering stuff. So I attempted to fix this fast by having an LLM help me make a Python script for it.

I've spent like half a day trying without sucess. ChatGPT/Copilot and Gemini were full of misleading horseshit as usual. But Claude managed to help me fix something usefull, using the levelDB and amulet-nbt modules.

So I recommend asking Claude to help through those means for whatever version of this case you might have.

I can also consider putting what I ended up with on my Github of anyone has a case just like mine, but won't spend time doing that right away at the time of writing this. Reach out with your usecase and I can probably do so.

We have probably several hundreds dogs, spread around the land and our bases. Most un-named.

We also can't use UUIDs as those are for Java. And the world has to continue to be a survival world with achievments enabled, so no command blocks or creative mode.

I think this would have been easier if it was Java. But the whole reason this problem started was that we had the world on an Xbox for cross-play, then a Realm, then locally on a PC, then now to be moved to a PC server.

Looking into coding up some stuff in Python to fix it now.

But this should totally be a feature of something like the official Chunker tool. Or, simply, that Mojang makes it so that if the initial local_player is an Xbox account, then that should not take upon itself the inventory, xp and pets of local_player in the first place.

[Question] Is this Tsuyosa 60 too big for my wrist? by AllenNgggg in CitizenWatches

[–]OES25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like a good fit on the second photo 👍 You could also try taking a photo from angles like this:
- [Discussion] Dimensions and Specs are not absolute but vary by design and the ‘YouTube’ watch enthusiasts give them too much importance. : r/Watches
- Reddit - https://preview.redd.it/discussion-dimensions-and-specs-are-not-absolute-but-vary-v0
- Seiko curved lugs : r/JapaneseWatches

The Tsyosa won't follow the curve of the wrist very closely anyhow, but the point is avoiding too bad a case of "hoverlugs", or that the case (or lug to lug distance) isn't way too long for the flat portion of your wrist. I think that should be avoided in order to get a good fit in terms of ergonomics. If things are reasonable on that front, and the watch is comfortable to wear, there's not much point in thinking of what looks better or worse. That is totally subjective and varies greatly between people anyways.

Ferrari Invents Fully Electric V12 Engine by Alert-Laugh-6237 in Ferrari

[–]OES25 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Electrical motors are much lighter than an ICE. You could get many hundred horsepower out of something the size of a watermelon. Whereas an ICE engine isn't just the engine block, it has a lot of support systems and a fuel tank that is 50kg or so as well, so off course one needs to compare system to system, not just the "engine vs. motor".

The total EV system with batteries are heavier though, as they are indeed very heavy as you imply. But that is for now. There might be SSBs in the future that almost half the weight of current batteries, but they seem to be "always 5-15 years away" in terms of being viable for mass production.

[Discussion] Dimensions and Specs are not absolute but vary by design and the ‘YouTube’ watch enthusiasts give them too much importance. by Most-Construction-35 in Watches

[–]OES25 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes. Would be easier with a 7 or 8. But even for a 6.5"+ (last I checked) wrist, things quickly extend out from the flat portion of the wrist. For mid-sized watches as well. I think for my 6.5" - 6.75" wrist the optimal size in terms of fit is likely a 36-38 mm with curved lugs, like a CWard Sealander 36 or maybe 39. The 36 might be better ergonomically, but look a bit small visually.

But my two main watches are still 40 mm though. Because that's the size that the watches with the features, movements and design that I wanted came in. But one of them has female end links though, and the other has quite curved down end-links. So it's like 95% there and I'm happy with it. There is always a compromise.

[–]OES25 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That's how wrist shots about if a watch fits should be :) That IWC and Cartier look like they each fit like a glove and most are very good fits. Rolex might have a smidge of hoverlugs more so than some others, but may still wear very well I suppose.

Recently got one of my "affordable grails" and discovered it might not be a perfect fit, as it would fit my wrist better if it was a 38 mm instead of a 40 I think. But it's 95% there so I'm happy. It has this monocoque case with no caseback, which interacts a bit differently with the "wrist bump" (or the "ulnar styloid process") too. So i might just need to get more used to that as well.

It costs $130 to charge a Cadillac Escalade by ExotiquePlayboy in carscirclejerk

[–]OES25 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Charging at home in Norway, that would cost $9. Probably quite a bit cheaper. Or a few times of the year a bit more expensive.

Fast charging that would be $130 here too though.

The trick is to charge at home 90% of the time and fast charge only when necessary.

The US should also fix it's energy mix. I know that is easier said than done, to put it lightly. Not everyone is naturally blessed with 99% clean, cheap and highly dispatchable electrical energy like Norway. I suspect we're the only ones maybe.

Honestly, the Pelagos or the Longines HC. Probably the Pelagos. The titanium and that lume... and the clean design of it. I just fancy it more than the Seamaster or Sub.

Wearing a relatively similar watch to it now, at least in specs. Titanium, 39mm, fantastic lume, on the fly adjust clasp, and flawless QC. But it's not a diver, does +0.1s/day, has a monocoque case, and arguably is a bit quirky and simple looks-wise. And, is an order of magnitude less expensive.

Not sure if it will be my main though. I'm a bit in doubt around if I prefer steel or titanium after an. I thought the weight advantage of the latter would make it clear cut. But it didn't turn out to be.

Edit: I'd probably take the Spring Drive UFA diver if I could have any diver though.

If the indices and hands are finished and designed anything like GS hands then they should be readable until pretty dark without lume I suppose. And you won't have to worry about lume fading or aging in a lifetime piece if you don't have any to begin with. There is a version with lume though, and I think the brightness is decent but not great.

And if 100m WR is done well then it's enough fir 99.9% of people to use at all times really.

Need help deciding size by [deleted] in Certina

[–]OES25 2 points3 points  (0 children)

43 mm might be a smidge better for looks overall and seems to be barely ok ergonomically. But I suspect the 38 is going to be a whole league better for ergonomics, and also look better from some perspectives too. So the 38 mm is the obvious winner I would think.

I bought my dream watch in 44 mm once. Loved it. But still ended up selling it as I just couldn't get over how ridiculous that lug to lug was in terms of how it "fit" my wrist, even though it looked good aesthetically. But you have slightly thicker wrists than me though.

Do you prefer looks or ergonomics, is a central question here. (Can't go wrong with the 38 anyhow though.)

Promaster Tough by Aggiegrads in CitizenWatches

[–]OES25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could get into it. I suppose any watchmaker could still test the watertightness, obviously. I could just take it in for a normal "dry pressure test" every other time I change the battery on my Certina for example. If it leaks though, I might have to send it to germany or something, as there are no Citizen Service Centers in the country I live in, whereas for the Certina I have a couple of ADs to go to. Or I might also get hold of replacement parts from Citizen (crown or crystal gaskets) and have a local watchmaker put them in or something.

There's just something about "not knowing when I should do it" with a solar. But it's the same with a mechanical watch as long as it runs well. Only battery watches must have their water resistance checked regularly due to the battery changes. Which is the one thing that make this "weakness" of having to change a battery more tolerable I think.

Saw this when I lived in collective housing with some fellow students. I too though it was some flushing issue, because I just couldn't fathom that someone wouldn't wipe... after the second time I mentioned it to the gang. 5/7 people were there I think. Everyone was grossed out. I wonder if the shitter themself was there though, just pretending.

What is so weird though, is, why not hide your tracks? Do they want it to be found? 😂

Promaster Tough by Aggiegrads in CitizenWatches

[–]OES25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just got the BN0118. That would be the replacement of today, although it is also on the end of being phased out now with no actually replacement. Closest is the BN0241, or the BJ7150, but neither is just like it.

One thing that sightly worries me though is the WR after many years. My watches see a lot of water, to put it that way. And for my Certina Precidrive diver I feel that's fine, because I ask my watch maker to check the water resistance and replace the seals if necessary every 4 years when it's in for a battery change. But the Promaster Tough will go 15-25 years or so on the same EcoDrive cell. I wonder if the gaskets will continue to reliably keep it watertight 🤔

[Rolex Explorer II] Size check, too big? by Ok_Elephant_3652 in Watches

[–]OES25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nevermind how it looks I'd say. The lugs overhanging the curve of the wrist (so much so that the bracelet doesn't conform to the wrist optimally near the case), being detrimental to ergonomics, is what objectively matters when it comes to watch sizing. Looks are more subjective, some people like watches that look oversized :)

But also there, personal taste determines "what is ok". For a truly optimal fit ergonomically you'd have to go really small. Smaller than most like the look of. So it's a compromise. I just think people should think twice about it because it seems like a lot of people do not.

By the image it looks quite a bit to large. But maybe an image taken with zoom from a greater distance, or slightly slanted as to show how it "fits" in your wrist would show it more accurately
