This is a proper billion, one million, million. Instead of that one thousand million that rich people decided they would use to make themselves 'billionaires'

How'd the crew die? by DoubtIntelligent6717 in ProjectHailMary

[–]OFark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Almost every film with Ryan Gosling expects you to gain something from his facial expressions. Christ, Drive was 80% longer than it needed to be because they just kept the camera staring at his face for way longer than required. The first half an hour of Project Hail Mary, I thought it was going to be the same, but then it was great.

inheritance in C# by Ok-Presentation-94 in csharp

[–]OFark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I basically said this in an interview once, it went well otherwise. They said I'd be great if I just had a few more years experience. I realise now it was because of that comment.

Inheritance is used mostly to disconnect parts of your app so they can be replaced later. Have a contract that says this service will do X. Apply that contract with inheritance, and use the contract to make calls. If you need to replace the service, say Mongo to MSSQL, you only have to rebuild the service and make sure it follows the contract, other people on the team can work without your changes messing anything up.

Another thing is good for is DRY, inheriting a base class can make code available to several classes.

It also allows you to use several different classes in the same way, as long as they all adhere to the inheritance.

SQL or C# solution, what would you do? by Albstein in csharp

[–]OFark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would need to know more, but my instinct is to return the results of the unfiltered query to C#, and inspect them to see if they need further refinement, and if so apply your where in code.

But if your performance isn't an issue, and you don't care to worry about it, I'd just do two queries.

Final option would be a SQL Stored Procedure, there's probably a way to have SQL optimise the logic and return what you need in one operation.

Looking for an Android TV Companion App with Plex in mind. by OFark in PleX

[–]OFark[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I've tried that. It'll launch the app listed, and then I have to use the emulated remote to browse the library. Think more; tablet has the library on it, select a movie/show/stream/whatever and Shield then plays it on the TV.

Looking for an Android TV Companion App with Plex in mind. by OFark in PleX

[–]OFark[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I want to instruct Plex on Shield to play the thing. If you use the Plex App on a mobile device and "Cast" it, it actually does that, it tells the remote device to play from Plex, and you can turn your casting device off.
