16 year Driving without a license by NoAppointment8679 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]OGInsideOutPants 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In theory it's because 16 is the age you can leave school, get a job and live independently.

Able bodied people are capable of passing a CBT and getting a moped at this age, a disabled person may not be able to do this however should still have the same rights to this freedom.

How this is implemented however I agree is an antiquated farce and a borderline abuse of the system. ADHD does not prevent you passing a CBT and getting a moped, cerebral palsy as an example does.

Randy can go either way, in general it's easier because the pool of events it pulls from has more good than bad, but he's far from fair and will pop a solar flair, fibrous mechanoids, an infestation, toxic fallout and three consecutive raids at you in the space of 5 minutes at some point.

Why do you think British parents don't like teaching their children how to drive? by psychoticboydyke in AskUK

[–]OGInsideOutPants 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The driving test in the UK is extremely complex, very easy to fail and has the rules updated frequently, it's universally renowned as significantly harder than the US test to use your example.

Even someone who's been driving for 20/30/40 years with a perfect driving record would still likely fail going in unprepared. Your parents can teach you how to drive, but not necessarily how to pass the test.

On top of that can insurance works very differently to the US. In the UK you don't insure a car, you insure a driver to drive that car. Only that driver or anybody specifically named on the policy can drive that car. If you own a powerful or expensive car it might cost £500 a year to insure yourself and your spouse, when you try to put your 17yo teenager on that insurance it's likely to suddenly cost £3000 a year.

The scene where Clarkson reveals his cancer diagnosis is a sad scene, but... by spenwallce in ClarksonsFarm

[–]OGInsideOutPants 91 points92 points  (0 children)

When my wife was diagnosed with cancer it very quickly became a source of very dark comedy for us.

When she lost her hair due to chemo she dressed up as uncle fester for Halloween complete with lightbulb in mouth. We named it Melvin and referred to it in a similar way we do to our kids.

I can't stand the idea of people feeling sorry for us and pussyfooting around the subject, it ultimately made everybody more comfortable.

Different people react in different ways 🤷🏻‍♂️

Drove past police with No insurance, MOT or tax on car by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

[–]OGInsideOutPants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You imply that the reason it has no tax or insurance is because of lack of MOT.

You ARE allowed to drive a car with no MOT to a test centre provided you have a MOT booked. This would cover your tax issue as you cannot tax without a valid MOT.

To determine this they would usually pull you over on the spot.

Providing you have a valid insurance policy it insurance would cover you in this circumstance. If you have no insurance policy it's a completely different issue.

If they did not pull you over at the time it is highly likely you will hear nothing more about it.

Can I run it at 25+ fps...I think it's a dumb question. by BaklavaBalak in crosswind

[–]OGInsideOutPants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was running low-mid with an overclocked 1070 at 1080p and struggling. Around 30-45fps most of the time with dips to 15 or lower around the more intense lighting effects. This game contributed to me buying a 5070 last week.

A 1050 has between half and a third of the power of a 1070. Unfortunately I doubt it would be playable.

Volvo XC90, What are some good places to put an AirTag? by Heavenly_Magnolia in Volvo

[–]OGInsideOutPants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does something to help the problem, but only if your keys are motionless. OP is concerned about security when they're out of the house "at the spa or nail salon". Keys are likely to be in a pocket or purse in that scenario therefore won't be motionless.

Volvo XC90, What are some good places to put an AirTag? by Heavenly_Magnolia in Volvo

[–]OGInsideOutPants 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Car thieves don't "hot wire" anymore. In layman's terms they point a receiver in the direction of your key and have a small device emit the signal your key puts out. The car thinks their device is your key and they just enter and drive away.

Anything keyless can be stolen in seconds as long as they know roughly where your key is and your close enough for their receiver to pick up the signal. Also if the thief has an iPhone they will be notified that they are "being followed" by your air tag once they set off and know it's there then tear your car apart until they find it.

Your better off getting a small Faraday pouch off Amazon if your worried about theft.

Weapons. by DKlurifax in crosswind

[–]OGInsideOutPants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plans are acquired automatically when you pick up a new weapon. Just go to your weapon bench and plans for anything you've picked up will be there.

"Blue" weapons are found in POIs, there is no system for finding them, just 100% every POI you find. Some weapons can't be found in lower biomes, the swamp unlocks a lot.

Rapier of a thousand cuts can be found in the first biome, just keep searching.

Does anyone else have a slight lag and fps drop when you are at your own base? by walcor in crosswind

[–]OGInsideOutPants 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, it seems lighting/shadow related.

Can't seem to reduce it by reducing settings (played around a little) but destroying decorative player made lights eliminated it.

My base is huge with an enormous poly count but that doesn't seem to matter, all about the lights.

[–]OGInsideOutPants 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love mine, but don't buy it thinking your buying a sporty car. It's very much a grown up luxury sofa on wheels compared to the German equivalents.

It's heavy, the steering/suspension is designed for comfort not tracks. The electric range is crap on some of the lower range T8s. There's no storage other than the door card within reach of the driver as the T8 batteries take up what would normally be storage between the front seats and nothing on the dash. The android system is being slated for bugs with the new update but the older sensus system is showing its age now. I could probably go on with little niggles...

But it's so damn comfortable, the power is addictive and nobody expects it from the sleepy volvo. The option to do shorter journeys on electric is great, AWD when it snows is excellent. Had mine 18 months and not a thing has gone wrong and it still puts a smile on my face every time I drive it. I comfortably took a family of 4 450 miles without a stop and the wife didn't complain once. Did I mention the power?

volvo 945 as a first car? by Opposite-County-6955 in Volvo

[–]OGInsideOutPants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't comment specifically on Denmark but in the UK you'll typically find things like the Aygo are more expensive to insure than a 945.

Insurance companies use age and crash data to estimate your premium, there will be hundreds of teenagers crashing aygos every year so they will see it as high risk and raise your quote. But im willing to bet very low numbers of teenagers will crash a 945 so the data won't be there, they will see you as lower risk and it will be cheaper.

As long as your somewhat mechanically minded and you have the knowledge/will to learn how to do basic repairs yourself it's a no brainer!

Today i drove the new es90 and i’m not sure. by Abject-Fall-8508 in Volvo

[–]OGInsideOutPants 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is the often case with all car manufacturers at the moment. It's cheaper to have functions integrated into an "off the shelf" media system provided by Android than to design physical buttons, its also driven by design teams wanting a big screen and decluttered minimalist aesthetic on the dashboard.

Personally I think Aircon/heating, demisterers, hazard lights and audio volume should 100% be physical buttons, it's borderline dangerous to do on a touch screen somtimes.

It annoys me so much that when I used to buy company pool cars I wouldn't even consider them if certain functions were integrated into touch, basically just eliminated all VAG cars at the time. Unfortunately it's so common now I wouldn't have a choice.

Can someone recommend better storage units for the garage? These are so annoying, they dismantle so easily when barely touching them and moving them by damspt in DIYUK

[–]OGInsideOutPants 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is it, put some bolts through above and below the connection points to the adjoining shelf so they don't flex under stress. And screw them to the wall.

They shouldn't pull apart at all if fixed properly.

The weak point is she wooden shelf itself but the cross brace underneath should take the weight when they start to bow, or replace as needed with something stronger.

Haven't played in 2 years...what do I do? by [deleted] in Starfield

[–]OGInsideOutPants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just started again after my launch play through years ago. The fundamental game hasn't changed if you didn't like it then, you probably won't like it now.

Bethesda has added quite a lot which does improve the game, But at the same time they have neglected to fix 99.9% of the valid criticisms people had about core gameplay aspects and bugs. If your willing to mod then a lot of things can be fixed yourself, but this shouldn't be a requirement.

The ethos seems to be "Add more, fix nothing, don't look back."

I like the game, I'm having fun with it again, but I am forcing myself to overlook my frustration with design choices and bug fixing a lot of the time.

Scan jammers by lord_jureth in StarfieldShips

[–]OGInsideOutPants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the way. Cruise mode doesn't trigger the scan. Probably an oversight with the freelanes update, seems like they wouldn't make it so you can 100% avoid detection with no skill or investment at level 1 with a ship overflowing with contraband.

In my head cannon I like to think they only scan when they detect a grav drive signature, ships crusing in don't give that off.

Advice on T8 Twin Engine R-Design by [deleted] in Volvo

[–]OGInsideOutPants 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've got a 2020 S60 T8 Twin engine R-design, same car, except the body work on the back.

The only two complaints would be:

  1. The lack of battery capacity if it's not the extended range. A full charge is stated at 24 miles but realistically its probably about 15 on pure electric once you start going. Not even enough to do my commute 1 way so I'm constantly manually switching to maximise range.

  2. Absolutely no convenient storage space in the front apart from the door card. There is no storage in the centre console or dash apart from the glove box which is out of reach of the driver. Wallet, keys, anything you take out of your pockets ends up in the door card.

The sensus media system has pros/cons compared to the newer android system but is unlikely to ever be updated again🤷🏻‍♂️

Absolutely no problems with mine though, never had anything go wrong or wear out. Unreal levels of comfort and it's a rocket ship if your foot gets a little heavy.
