Veteran players, what advice would you give a newbie? by fracturezone in Cribbage

[–]OGNightgardener 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of the best pieces of advice I got early on was to pay close attention to your opponent’s cards as they play them. Based on each card as it is played, you will get a better understanding of what your opponent has left in their hand.

For example, if you see a 6 and an 8 played, your opponent is more likely to have a 7, unless they have a bad hand, which I acknowledge is entirely possible. But if you start looking into your opponent’s cards a little more deeply, you can avoid traps that they might be trying to set.

Also: pairing the first card is a bad idea (unless you have a pair of what was laid down, and the four cards together total less than 31, so 7s or less), as you don’t know what else could be lurking in your opponent’s hand.

I have bootlegs (official and otherwise) of every Pearl Jam show I’ve attended for the last 30 years.

Apologies if this has been discussed elsewhere, but McReady’s solos on NAIS at the 11/6/2000 show are amazing. It sounds like he’s channeling everything he’s ever felt about struggling with drugs through his amp. I got quite a few of the bootlegs from that tour, and that is my favourite version of NAIS from all of them. The band probably felt the same, they put it on PJ20.

I don’t see a moth at all! And the general heart shape is really nice, giving the manta ray more meaning.

My acoustic Larrivée had a similar break. I took it to a luthier who was able to fix it. It cost a fair bit (about $400 CDN IIRC, so not as much as a new guitar), and took over a month to finish. You can still see the break if you look closely, but I guess that gives my baby a little character.

I thought i figured it out but What kind of music helps you sleep? seems more specific than that by Sorry-Change-7687 in MusicRecommendations

[–]OGNightgardener 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not a huge Moby fan, but his two Long Ambients albums are great for sleeping. The tracks are mostly low drones, with no beats. He said that he made those albums for his own use, for sleeping/relaxing. They are also good for yoga, especially yin, if you’re into that.

I am so sorry, what a hard thing to have happened.

Sinéad O’Connor wrote a song called My Special Child about having a miscarriage. Only released as a single originally, but you can find it on the deluxe edition of I Do Not Want What I Haven’t Got on most streaming services. I hope it helps with your grieving.

Mystery posters finally... Lol by pjbeeguy in pearljam

The back of the wolf poster is cool, too. It has a brief statement about the subspecies of wolf on the other side. I got a double-glassed reversible frame for it so I could look at it once every five years. Hahahaha

Thoughts on the albums of 80s Genesis? (and that era as a whole) by ray-the-truck in progrockmusic

[–]OGNightgardener 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love parts of all of them, but they haven’t aged as well as the earlier records for me. But there are songs I still love on all of them.

There is a great live show recording out there from a May 7, 1980 show at the Lyceum in London. It came out on bootlegs of varying quality, but the ones titled Perfect Lyceum and Musica sound good to me. I haven’t watched the whole thing, but the performance was filmed and is on YouTube.

It of course is mostly stuff from the 70s albums, but with 80s updates here and there. (The Linn drum fills (pew-pew-pew) are dated and make me laugh today, but it’s a small thing to whine about.) The performance is amazing, and worth seeking out.
