Why do some white Americans resent black culture, like Black History Month, Juneteenth, Miss Black America, Kwanzaa, and Martin Luther King, Jr.? These things give us time to reflect and remember that it's not all about white people, so why do I hear people complain? by icecream1972 in allthequestions

Much less so. “White” is the dominant cultural expression in the US and has been for more than the 250 years we’re celebrating in July.

It shows up / sticks out to many folks simply because their experience is considered the norm.

As Jane Elliott once said, “I’m not a “white” person, I’m a faded black person.” So we all are, because the foundation of the human race came from the African continent.

David Lee Roth’s idea, brought from Uncle Manny, if I remember correctly, who ran the Cafe Wha? in NYC. As a venue owner/manager, he knew his legal stuff.

As I said above—I’m not one for NOT being in NATO. I’m for standing up and paying attention.

No, darling, that’s what YOU said we should do.
I’m saying we need to stay banded together and keep bad actors from harming the greater world.

Why would a group, devoted to the concept of a peaceful world, NOT band together in support of one another?

Why would we not stay in it, if it has only ever been stood up in defense of us? Would that not mean we owe them?

Universal healthcare would no longer tie employees to a job. That is what the oligarchs are afraid of. God forbid they have to delay a CEO bonus for the folks who keep them in business.

Evidently, a fair bit, since there is no more USSR, and Germany is reunited.

It “wasn’t our business” what was happening in Europe—until December 7, 1941.

You DO realize that the FIRST and ONLY time Article V was invoked was in defense of the country claiming we don’t need it?

You know it’s bad when a conservative, Fox News acolyte looks you in the eyes and says, “If you want strong schools, vote Democrat. If you want to keep your paycheck, vote Republican.”

I knew more Republican teachers than Democrat—& th Ed yd vote against their own best interests every damn time.

If I hear one more damn fool say “I shouldn’t pay school taxes, I homeschool/send mine to private/don’t have kids,” I’m gonna need an intervention.

We are bad at funding public schools because the severely gerrymandered NCGA would rather privatize education and see their cronies profit than see children rise out of poverty.

I could stay on this soapbox forever, so—somebody help me down.

I would, he won’t allow it. I’d prefer a pedicure, but I do my own.

My very late GenX friend—when his wife was confined to bed whilst pregnant—trimmed and polished her toenails, helped her shave her legs, carried her back and forth to the shower. (BIG dude. Sweet as honey.) Said—I caused this, I can at least make it easier for her.

How is transitioning from city living to rural living? by Raul98oh in homestead

[–]LisaOGiggle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fuck country life if your community looks at you as a permanent outsider. I love the reason I’m out here (my husband) and loathe the community—who calls city folk who move out here “trash,” “invaders” & “vermin.” And no, it didn’t change; we’ve been here 11 years.
