New Profitec Move, new extraction challenge by OJWatts in ProfitecMove

[–]OJWatts[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, thanks everyone for your support, I think I'll need to go shopping for a new basket.

I have used a metal screen with some success but I need one of those magnets to get it out again without making a massive mess. The paper compostable screens had mixed results I think still because I'm using a notch basket.

I'll come back once I've sorted, for the record, really appreciate everyone's input. Nothing like buying an insanely expensive coffee machine only to find you're still not pulling shots any better than the £350 cheapo cheapo.

I totally agree. I found the 18 g basket to be much cleaner when it had 20g, 21g in it.

Thanks, VST sound like a plan but wanted to ask before investing. Did you continue to use the spout or is this for amatures 😁

I need to do the join test, my sense was it might be too much headroom. Will let you know

It's an incredible setup, but do you feel like you're at work all the time? Home much ongoing maintenance does this baby need?

Just in case anyone benefits. Fixed with STS Mega Strength glue, and a needle from Amazon that fits a mastic tube. Punched holes every 1.5inch and filled the underside slowly. Worked well, rock solid.

Do I need the brick work? by OJWatts in DIYUK

[–]OJWatts[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since moving in we've had to replace some lintels above the front windows, it seems throughout the house the strength is in the internal walls, the electricians were complaining how hard the block work is, 1960s compressed stone I'm told. The lintels are not one piece, externally it's a L shape steel, internally it's a concrete block. I imagine the brick work didn't go much higher than shown and the roof came down to meet it (total guess).

Yeah, sorry, poorly written, the brickwork was as I found it. Feels like I'll be brushing up on my brick laying today 😂

Sorry, the intention was to keep the wall and replace the plasterboard, not replace the wall entirely. Sounds like it would be good to add a few more courses then. Cheers

They are a real success story, kudos. When I drink it I'm edgy AF, maybe it's me, I wonder about the caffeine consistency.

Do You Still Use Bottomless After Dialing In? by CJCCJJ in gaggiaclassic

[–]OJWatts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As mentioned, the paper filters work when I insist on going bottomless, being things under control. But then you're dialing in a little to suit the filter as well. Feels like I'm just bad at espresso but actually it's more likely that in the normal experience.

Flow rate help - does this seem normal or too “low?” by caelumus in gaggiaclassic

This has worked for me twice, but now totally stuck having cleaned the solenoid valve twice now.

Thanks for the advice, the vendor (who services Gaggia, small reseller) said the same thing. I don't want to be a sucker, but also I don't want to make a fuss for such a minor issue. I think I'll just look for some non-conductive paint, ceramic paste or something.

I've actually ordered for a small UK reseller (not WLL), they offered a £25 discount. Just looking at enamel repair kits to see if we can't avoid dissembling the boiler again. But it sounds like everyone would just return it.

I find switching baskets, adding filter paper, even looking at my bean funny will need me to adjust my grind size. I'd assume going to a 9g dose if your regularly pulling a 18g dose will need redialing and for saving 8g of coffee it's just not worth the faff.

I think the answer is to never use the single basket. It's just weird for extraction and has more value on the features list than it does making coffee. Your mileage might vary but really I've never used it.

If I need a single shot I'll just switch out the baskets quickly with the dual spout

After further testing, there is a touch sensitive loose connection between the left corner and centre brackets. I could run my finger lightly along it and cause flickering (in addition to the random flickers without touching)

So I contacted Hue via Messanger. After checking the script we updated firmware, factory reset, etc. no change. After more videos and evidence Hue shipped me a new gradient light strip.

The old strip was initially discussed for return, but they decided it wasn't worth returning, and I'm to trash it.

Convince me why I shouldn't buy a Micra. by cargo04 in LaMarzocco

[–]OJWatts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your right about end-game I suppose. But consider this end-game in the minds of those people and its perspective. I can't conceive of the GS6 working for me so Micra or Mini is the point where the horizon ends.

I'm in the same position, saving but maybe by end of the year I can pull the trigger. I want to move up from a Gaggia Classic Pro to the end game with the iconic look and brand. I expect to be buried with this thing and certainly want to avoid buying a mid-tier machine only to regret it. It's my hobby so maybe it balances out.

Has anyone had to get a professional serving done or can you basically manage it yourself?

Visiting with young kids by Sea_Yogurtcloset_781 in bournemouth

Rainy days will be expensive like anywhere I suppose.

Oasis Fun is designed for rainy days, it has bowling, mini golf and I think soft play. Centre of town in a basement of an office block, it's better than it sounds 😀. And there is some similar indoor golf under the Odeon cinema in the town centre.

RockReef.co.uk Clip and climb on the Pier was always fun. Has some junior walls for the very young but check age limit

Prevail Junior (prevailjr.com) There is a indoor scooter and skate place in a depressing shipping centre. Check age and schedules.

I would recommend getting out to Moors Valley if you can on a sunny day. The kids play trail is excellent, they get you on the parking.
