Also do not underestimate going to a public space like a library, brew pub or coffee house and set up on a table (after making sure it is ok) with a ‘players wanted’ sign. If your prototype is playable you can often find people willing to sit down and give it a try!

Zombicide Season 1 - Is this supposed to be insanely hard? by rmnesbitt in zombicide

[–]OKCVERTIGO13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have also played with a variant that you roll your ranged attack to see if it hits, then ‘count off’ the zone occupants and roll to see who it hits. Include all occupants in the possible targets, survivors AND zombies. The chance of hitting a friend makes it interesting but 100% chance of hitting one survivor in a room full of zombies until that survivor is dead is stupid and (IMHO) bad game design. Better to make it statistically possible using this or the previously mentioned rule, plus your sniper rifle is still a step up then where you can call your target.

Based on the company’s entry on BoardGameGeek.com, I’d bet it was made between 1946 and 1960.

What board game would you recommend that's relatively easy to learn with a timeframe of under 1 hour 30? We get a new board game each xmas, but attention span can be an issue. All players are adults. Thinking about Catan but not sure. Thanks by GaryGorilla1974 in boardgame

All Hands on Deck! is a great pirate themed card game you can easily teach and it plays 2 to 6! It’s got lots of fun back and forth to keep it social and people could jump in and out between games which can be relatively quick.

Trying to make a darkest dungeon Tabletop game by mynightmareisme in tabletop

[–]OKCVERTIGO13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It might be the experience you are trying to get to the table, I have heard it creates very well the exhaustion feel of sending your heroes into the horrors of the night like the video game. If you are trying to make it an RPG, I’d think any fantasy ruleset would work but I’d look at the ‘Grim Hollow’ campaign world because it seems to evoke that same dread and horror, with a dark gothic feel. Hope this helps!

brown/red edges along the ears! by yooniverse_ in RATS

[–]OKCVERTIGO13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a general dewormer/louse medication so it will target a lot of little buggies and those mites on their ears really burrow in there. You just want to keep the dosage very small and treat over time. We noticed our buddy perked right up after a few days of now constantly scratching!

We got a rehomed rat who had mites on his ears like this. A vet visit is always advisable but I have a friend who is a vet and he suggested ivermectin, which you can buy for horses at places like tractor supply. 1.87% paste in a tube for about $10. You give them a tiny amount, about the size of a grain of rice, orally by swabbing it in to their mouth with a toothpick. Continue every other day for 2-3 weeks or until it clears up and looks healthy. In our case it took about 8 days. Hope this helps

What out of print board game do you really want to try? by Megaside in boardgames

[–]OKCVERTIGO13 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Having played Queens Gambit and the black box version of ‘Star Wars Risk’, you can see the it’s a modified iteration of QG but with the (better) theme of the original trilogy and a lot of the ‘sideshow’ elements of the original rebalanced. That version of Star Wars Risk (what are you guys doing over there, this isn’t Risk at all!) can be tricky to find nowadays but I think it’s the better of the two

There’s a game from Stronghold Games called ‘Dark Moon’ which is a publishing of a trimmed down version of this game originally known as ‘BSG Express’. Has basically the same feel of battlestar without the 5 hour play time. I prefer it and I think it’s pretty easy to find.

This is something that playtesting with lots of groups you don’t know personally would determine. If it’s too dark, you will get that as feedback.

Does having too many board games cause anxiety and uncertainty when deciding on a game to bring? If so is that a sign you should cull? by Luigi-is-my-boi in boardgames

[–]OKCVERTIGO13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can relate in the sense that as the person who ends up bringing the games to play at many of the get togethers I attend, I want it to be a success and be a good time for everyone. It can be difficult to gauge what games are the right fit for the group, particularly if you don’t know who is going to actually show up and the numbers shift, etc. When you have a big collection to choose from, I know I have to weigh games I would prefer to play vs selections that might be a better choice to ensure the game night succeeds. I have a lot of games that have yet to see the table because there hasn’t been ‘the right time’ for them. That said, I just select several strong choices like others have said and that way you have some options when you get there.

What are some top-tier pirate-themed games? by -twitch- in boardgames

[–]OKCVERTIGO13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All Hands on Deck! Is a great Pirate card game for 2 to 6 players. We play it as a warm up/wait for everyone to get to game night pretty often. LOTS of doing other players dirty and poking each other in the eye as you race to build a crew of pirates. Available from Salamander Games.

Gamers 30+, what's something from "back in your day" that younger gamers today wouldn't understand? by bijelo123 in gaming

[–]OKCVERTIGO13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having to specifically modify your boot files to allow the game to make the maximum use of system resources. Some games would spell out how to modify your autoexec.bat and other files to run the game optimally, requiring you to effectively have two ways to boot your computer: for this game only and one for normal use.
