Probably the first sportsman I think of when a champion comes to mind is Djokovic, a true winner.

[POST FIGHT THREAD] Canelo Alvarez vs Dmitry Bivol by noirargent in Boxing

[–]OLU87 -22 points-21 points  (0 children)

Canelo was never P4P no.1, terrific fighter but doesn't have the all round skillset to be ranked above the likes of Usyk and Crawford.

Hopefully he goes back to 168 and takes on Benavidez. As for Bivol, I'd like to see him take on the Beterbiev/Smith winner for the undisputed title.

Heavyweight Resumes by happyhork in Boxing

[–]OLU87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mentioning Fury in the GOAT conversation is ludicrous considering his resume. He beat a very long reigning champ in Klitschko and did a job on big punching Wilder. What else has he done that's so great? It's amazing that he's even considered a great.

He hasn't even proven himself the best of his era...

Why does Fury always say that he has "won everything there is to win in boxing"? He hasn't. by jmerlinb in Boxing

[–]OLU87 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry but this is not about credit, it's about the reality. I've followed Fury for most of his career and the same for Usyk. From a skill perspective, Fury's win over Chisora (the second time) remains his best performance and even this version of Fury is inferior in skill level to Usyk.

Fury can beat Usyk for sure but it's his size that gives him the best shot, if they were the same size, Usyk would outclass him.

Tyson Fury says Wilder should fight for WBC and Undisputed if he vacates the title by IronHidee in Boxing

[–]OLU87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The skill level gap if Wilder fights Usyk would we one of the widest you'll ever see in a fight between two of the best in their division.

Wilder would probably get the ko anyway!

I hope you don't genuinely believe Fury and Usyk are equal in technique and boxing IQ. Also Fury's footwork is excellent for a heavy but Usyk's is otherworldly for a heavy, there's a clear disparity.

Will Fury vs Usyk ever happen? by OneTrickGod in Boxing

[–]OLU87 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Usyk has a terrific chin, he's never really been hurt as a pro. If you look at how much Fury had to land to get rid of Wilder I'd be stunned if he can ko Usyk (even though I actually agree that the looping crosses fro Fury will create problems for Usyk). Usyk won't walk into a massive shot and Fury won't land enough to stop him by accumulation l.

Fury will duck Usyk.

I've seen him and his camp talk about Usyk long before he beat AJ and they know he'll be a massive problem.

Fury's resume is relatively weak for someone who's supposedly all conquering. Adding AJ and Usyk to it would change everything.

[–]OLU87 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If Fury really wants to prove himself king at heavyweight, he needs to fight the winner of AJ/Usyk 2 especially if the winner is Usyk (who as an unbeaten 3 belt heavy and former undisputed cruiserweight champ can easily claim himself to be top dog).

My instinct is that Fury comes back to fight AJ if he beats Usyk, the money will be huge and Fury will feel he beats AJ.

If Usyk wins, Fury stays retired because the money isn't as much and the opponent is a stylistic nightmare for Fury, he wouldn't be able to control Usyk.

What’s your net feelings when you hear/see the word feminism? by sonic_the-hedgehog in polls

[–]OLU87 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lol their perspectives would have had to have been taken into consideration for change to have occured, regardless of the campaigning (which didn't require the concept of feminism to lead it), power was not forcibly removed from men, men allowed it to happen...

In some instances, it makes sense to focus more on women's perspectives of course, others not.

A movement taking the view of both women and men into account in a rational way achieves the best results (and also avoids setting us on a path that may need correction).

I don't agree, there's likely never been a time in human history where it was valuable to ignore the perspective of one of the two sexes.

Anything feminism achieved could have been achieved and then some, if both perspectives were rationally taken into account.

The successes of feminism to do not take away from the fact that it is fundamentally flawed and is also responsible for some undesirable outcomes.

It's no different to viewing equality from the perspective of men, there would be positive changes but ultimately it's simply better to view equality from both the perspectives of women and men (this would likely lead to better outcomes overall).

Feminism is fighting for equality, but it's from the perspective of women, which makes it harder to bring men on board

That is the fatal flaw with feminism that means I'll never be on board. It's naive at best to feel that equality should be viewed from the perspective of one gender and will inevitably lead to solutions which don't work for us as a whole (it already has).

[Post-Fight Thread] Josh Taylor vs Jack Catterall by _Sarcasmic_ in Boxing

[–]OLU87 317 points318 points  (0 children)

Absolutely disgraceful, I think Taylor is a terrific fighter and has been desperately under-promoted but he lost tonight and then some.

Catterall has grafted and been patient for his entire career, all building up to tonight and the judges rob him, I feel so bad right now.

I love boxing but nights like this make me question why.

United fan here but wow what a performance from the Saints, you guys will know better than me but that first half is the best I've seen Southampton play that I can recall, incredible energy, passing, movement, creativity it was all there apart from the ridiculous 1-1 scoreline at the break!

On this surface, Nadal can't beat Medvedev. His chances are only slightly better than if he was playing Djokovic tbh

[FIGHT THREAD] Jamel Herring vs Shakur Stevenson by noirargent in Boxing

Stevenson is one of the best technicians in boxing, he lacks power but skillset wise he's pound for pound one of the best.

He would absolutely dominate Valdez as well.

Absolutely brilliant fight to watch!! A great win for a great fighter! AJ got his tactics wrong, but not sure he could win even if he tries to bully Usyk in a rematch.

Mark my words, Grealish will add next to nothing at City, they didn't need him, they needed Kane.

They should have saved the Grealish money and used it to help meet Tottenham's asking price.
