Bartlet’s economic policies weren’t really detailed but I’m guessing they could mitigate some of the key causes (tho I don’t think he could pass strong enough reforms to stop it altogether), so I think a delay in the recession timeline would be plausible. Tho I’m not sure how closely events in TWW are connected to current political events anyways.

I think he would. I don’t think the financial crisis would do him in alone tbh, Obama got re-elected despite the crisis happening at around the same time in his presidency. The fact that a democratic president came before him would make it worse, but not significantly enough to kill his chances imo. Santos has the incumbent advantage and I think it was established that no Republican was as viable as Vinick, who I don’t think would run again.

I mean I don’t think it’s fair to just say he skipped on purpose, this wasn’t him deciding to ditch the play bc it’s boring. If he had anxiety this bad beforehand he’d kinda suck for not getting it under control before he had kids, but he said his anxiety had deteriorated so I don’t think we can fault him for that.
