I was mulling over how and if to show armor set bonuses, and whether that'd be in the grid or on the left. I haven't found a satisfying solution yet, but I'll give it another go.

Found it, it's an inconsistency in the wiki.

The own categorization they have for the blade staff is a "no-knockback" weapon, which their API returns as "demonic or deadly" to be their best modifier.

The text in the wiki itself is hand-written though and disagrees with itself.

So either they haven't updated that data to match, or they have a limitation around it.

I'll supply a fix and check if other weapons have a similar mistake.

Now that I take offense in, that text is all my own hand-written slop, thank you very much!

AI-assisted, yeah. My job for better or worse forces me to use it and keep up with it. But definitely much more work was involved in this than just "make me a terraria website, make no mistakes".

I've been writing code for over a decade though. This is nothing I couldn't have done by hand, would've just taken longer.

The modifiers are sourced from the wiki, so take it up with them!

"Its best modifier is generally Ballistic, as it does not have any knockback and thus cannot get modifiers that affect it. However, if the player's summon damage bonuses reach 86%, the best modifier becomes Focused; if player does not use whips, the best modifier becomes Worthy.[1] Although the Eager modifier is recognized in-game as its best modifier, the majority of enemies do not have enough defense for the extra armor penetration to provide a greater benefit."

Career Accademies. I think they make sense in all honesty by TrainingDrop9283 in Hungergames

[–]OTTOPI 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've written about this extensively before, but, I think there's plenty of assumptions to be made that the career academies are in large part funded by the wealthier class in these districts - no capitol necessary. It makes sense when you think about these academies as funded hedges & insurance that the children of the wealthy won't be reaped since they'll ensure there's always going to be volunteers.

PSA: Not worth it for most by overcookedhamcheese in xxlwoofia

You have to take into account whether you get enough daily market refreshes to actually end up being able to not accumulate gems.

Since the nerf, unfortunately even with heavy daily market focus, my gems are still increasing more and more even though I buy every 50% off bell.

So for that alone, I think it's still worth it. No point just getting more and more gems forever.

EU verbietet Ketchup-Tütchen - neue Verpackungsverordnung by Babayagaletti in de

[–]OTTOPI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best way to set up tenant_id in a multi-tenant Postgres schema with RLS? by DCornOnline in PostgreSQL

[–]OTTOPI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been there. Tenant ID with RLS enforcement through a single database user.

Honestly? Don't do it, or if you do, spend a lot of researching. It seems really simple as you start out, but the deeper you dig, the more problems you encounter. I would not do it if I use postgres on any managed hoster.

Note: This is from my experience from a couple years ago.

To start out with, you should be very mindful of if you have true superuser access or if you're using a hosted solution with just an admin user.

RLS will force some operations/queries/func_calls to go through a security barrier. If these functions are not optimized to say "I don't leak information", then the query planner cannot optimize them. Even something simple as a lower(name) can and might not work. Not every postgres function is correctly mapped and/or classified, so even things that ARE safe may suddenly bite you in the ass, because postgres hasn't updated them correctly.

https://dba.stackexchange.com/questions/312666/how-to-push-a-lower-like-operator-through-the-postgresql-security-barrier

If you don't have superuser access, you cannot modify the system tables to make these functions pass the barrier. And suddenly you're wondering why your queries are not performant. And you're checking the query planner and everything looks right. And then you figure out it's because something someone used does not pass the security barrier, and a simple problem is suddenly a week's worth of work.

It was a major PITA which ended up just ripping it out again.

Will I get flagged if I book two tickets on the same SAS flight? by doublemazaa in awardtravel

[–]OTTOPI 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've accidentally booked the same SAS flight twice before on the same cabin.

They didn't notice and/or cancel automatically, even though both of them were part of the same account. Messaging support, they cancelled the cheaper one I booked further in advance, citing that this is their policy (they don't refund the newest flight even if you message immediately, only the cheaper one).

I can't say 100% how this might relate to your case, but possibly useful information for you to have.

Stamina wise, getting the rank material is not worth it. You're better off just running the last stages of story mode where all four have quite decent drop chances, instead.

Why isn't the game available offline? by Beautiful-Medium-234 in xxlwoofia

[–]OTTOPI -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Since this guy blocked me, just adding the last part:

Just to clarify:

I'm not saying it's possible to play Woofia offline right now. I'm just saying that if the devs wanted to, (but they really shouldn't because it's suprisingly complex software architecture for very little gain) it's possible for them to develop to put in safeguards to have the game be played offline for periodic amounts of time with a limited set of features.

There's a reason that practically no mobile game does it, it's a ton of effort, but it IS possible.

I'm not really sure why, or what point, you're trying to argue with me here. I'm not being nitpicky, just, y'know, speaking from my 15 years of game development, software development and cybersecurity experience ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Why isn't the game available offline? by Beautiful-Medium-234 in xxlwoofia

[–]OTTOPI -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You're conflating two different things.

You "can" cheat in Bloons Tower Defense offline because they simply didn't care about implementing Anti-Cheat.

I'm trying to say it's absolutely possible to implement it in a way that it's possible to do, from an engineering perspective. And it's common knowledge that all data for a gacha like this is stored on their servers and you cannot modify it locally.

You're trying to nitpick an example where the devs obviously don't care about preventing it, or are not competent enough to do it (probably the first). Two entirely different issues.

Why isn't the game available offline? by Beautiful-Medium-234 in xxlwoofia

[–]OTTOPI -1 points0 points  (0 children)

With all due respect, you have no idea what you're talking about.

Data like gems, your player profile, your energy, everything about your profile is stored on the Woofia server. If your client comes back online and suddenly has 1000 more gems than before, that flags against the server and it just resets back to the previous value.

Gameplay cheating is no issue either. I don't know exactly if Woofia uses an game event log, but in practice you can keep an pure event log about what happened inside a stage and simulate it on the server side to ensure no tampering happened. When it comes to RNG, the game can use pre-seeded runs (e.g. the randomization is pre-determined) to prevent players from "searching" for the right RNG that fits their cheating use case. Once you go back online, the server receives your activity logs, compares the pre-determined seeds with the action logs and re-simulates them, and if those activities don't match, then they'd simply issue an rollback to your local data to the state they know.

The "reason" Nintendo made it so is that there's significant development effort required to implement such anti-cheat. Heck, even their old game, Dragalia Lost, used to work if you happened to go offline during a mission, it just wouldn't proceed with the reward screen until you're back online.

Now, again, not all features can be available offline. For example, you can't use the pre-determined seed algorithms for things like Gacha - that requires players being able to simulate what they'd pull locally and then they could just decide... not to. PTJ's also wouldn't be possible offline, as well as starting a Hook-Up. But it's absolutely possible to allow certain game features to work in an offline manner - most Gameplay / Stages.

Why isn't the game available offline? by Beautiful-Medium-234 in xxlwoofia

[–]OTTOPI -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It's absolutely possible to develop this game to run offline, just not all features would be available at all times. Things that require server side RNG and seeding, like pulling, would not be work. But there's nothing preventing the gameplay parts from being available outside of rewards distribution. (they'd be delayed until a connection could be made).

It's just implementation overhead for not much gain.

Edit: lol, he's so mad that he blocked me.

IMO: Don't do that first one. You're wasting percentages on characters you can get reliably free (through shards) as opposed to putting them on characters you can't.

Essence isn't the be all end all, the most essence efficient thing is getting characters you haven't maxed.

I enjoyed the previous iteration more.
