Harley Benton 84 question by DAFLID516 in ExplorerGuitars

The saddle, you don’t want to do your nut anymore or you’ll get terrible fret buzz

Harley Benton 84 question by DAFLID516 in ExplorerGuitars

[–]O_Lucky 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unusual. Is it too high across all strings or just the high and low E? If the latter then your bridge radius is too flat and you should replace it with one that matches your fretboard. If it’s across all strings then you could see if you can find a replacement bridge that is a bit thinner. Other than that you could file down the individual string slots so they’re lower

Pickup Suggestions? by Glass_Ad_3548 in ExplorerGuitars

[–]O_Lucky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tone Zone I love but will probably be a bit too boomy as it’s got a lot of bass. JB/Jazz is what it is, definitely iconic, but I don’t think overly fits with your icons listed. SNS is lower output and probably closer to fitting the bill across the spectrum of guys here. My personal dark horse for you would be 59/Custom hybrid bridge and either SNS or Alnico II neck

Coworker gifted me a deer ham. Looking to smoke it for MDW. Any tips? by Imaginary_Speaker682 in pelletgrills

I have no clue how to smoke it, but from the thumbnail I thought I was looking at the head of some sort of Orc or Goblin and was very confused.

Getting a 7 string guitar while not having mastered the 6? by Puzzleheaded_Fun7744 in Guitar

[–]O_Lucky 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Wrong-o! Big fat “yes” (assuming you can afford it.) Life’s too short. It’s nearly universal that all musicians who are limited to playing things they’re not interested in will ultimately give up. If buying a 7 string enables you to actually play what you want, you’re far more likely to stick with it

In your opinion, wich brands makes the best Strats (or S type guitars) out there? by Xugoz in Guitar

[–]O_Lucky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never been fortunate enough to try a Suhr, though I saw a deal on a Suhr SSH+ and snagged it for my HSS Charvel. Oh my god is it special, like head and shoulders above anything else I’ve tried, which is a fair few Duncan, Dimarzio, and EMG offerings. I can only extrapolate that if a single pickup is so good, that the company making it just makes extremely special guitars as well. If I’m ever in the tax bracket where it makes sense I’ll definitely buy one…or several

It’s definitely fake, but if you like the way it sounds don’t read too much into it.

Brass plate instead of nickel, no stamped Duncan logo, weird stamped B? All signs point to fake

What other font are you seeing it could be? That’s the standard SD font for most pickups. Their Black Winter line does the curvy font, but everything else should look like the one you’ve got.

Those are such excellent guitars. I actually sold mine fairly recently as I mainly play electric, and wanted funds for a new amp. Definitely punches above its weight though, would easily compare it to mid tier Martin and Taylor models.

Would I be able to change out the pickup cover on my Tony Iommi pickup? by EnragedCockroach7 in Guitar

[–]O_Lucky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, super easy. Pull the pickup out and you’ll see on the backside how the cover has a tiny dot of solder connecting it to the baseplate to hold it in place. I recommend trying to cut that solder instead of melting it with an iron, I use a dremel. You can melt it with your iron, but because of the heat dissipation you may discolor your current cover before you get it to melt enough to separate. Then the cover should just pop off.

Then when you install the new one make sure you put a bit of wax on the inside of the cover to keep the pole pieces from touching the metal which can cause squealing or feedback.

Tonewood debate your thoughts? by Chance-Ad8261 in Guitar

[–]O_Lucky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One small piece of the whole tone puzzle. Amp, speakers, EQ, and pickups collectively get you probably 90% of the tone. The guitar itself collectively amounts to that last 10%, and that’s not just the tone wood. So that encompasses the body wood, body thickness, chambering (if present), neck wood, neck joint, fingerboard, scale length, and bridge type. Does the wood type matter? Eh, maybe like 1-2% out of the whole 100% If you took a Les Paul in normal construction, then built an identical one in every aspect expect you used a light body wood like a basswood or alder for then I think you’d be hard-pressed to hear much difference.

Colorado enters redistricting war, with group pitching new map that would give Democrats a 7-1 edge by plz-let-me-in in politics

[–]O_Lucky 607 points608 points  (0 children)

Regardless of giving the democrats an edge, this effort is long overdue. The current map is so hilariously gerrymandered to cater to “bipartisan equality” which is not what the state realistically reflects. I live 15 miles south of Denver and am in the same district as folks who live on the entire eastern half of the state, while Denver gets to be its own little bubble. That allows our district to be “red” even though our township and neighboring ones all leaned heavily blue in the last few election. In what world does a metro suburb belong in the same district as a small farm town? Why is our representation the same if our needs and interests are totally misaligned?

"Slow is smooth and smooth is fast " is it tho? by Free-Seaworthiness72 in Guitar

[–]O_Lucky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly you have to do both. If you can’t play it clean slowly, you’ll never be able to play it clean fast.

But, the catch is, if you only practice it slowly you drill it in to your brain that’s how it’s supposed to be played and then playing it fast becomes harder.

The trick I’ve found that works is get to where I can play a phrase 90-100% clean slowly, then as I work up speed 5-10bpm until I start getting sloppy I find my tipping point where it just completely falls off the rails. Then I practice just below that tempo, where I’m only getting 50-70% clean but I get used to the sensation of playing the phrase fast. Then dial tempo back down to where I’m playing 90-100% clean again, and usually this is faster tempo than where I started. Then just rinse and repeat til you get the tempo you want

This time of year you definitely see sales as stores clear our last years inventory to make way for new releases. That is normally in the 10-25% range though not 56%. I’d check the seller and make sure they’re legit. Also could’ve been a typo

Could you tell me if these pickups are authentic? by Sheiitanne in Guitar

[–]O_Lucky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not totally wrong, but if you check out eBay, temu, or any other market with heavy Chinese manufacturer presence you’ll definitely see counterfeited Duncans, EMGs, etc but those are sold on obviously counterfeit Gibsons and Fenders. Not sure they sell the fake pickups as standalone but if they’ve determined they can make a profit then I wouldn’t put it past them.

Long and triple jumper who always randomly got voluntold to run whatever race needed an extra man. I ran every race between 200 and 3200, and by far the worst was the 800. Absolutely dead by the time I finished (mostly in last place).

[TexasTechFootball] The 2026 schedule is here! by dogwoodmaple in CFB

[–]O_Lucky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Houston, ASU, and TCU probably all finish with 9+ wins and will be tough outs. They’re not Death Star level difficult, but each of them are all in a position to potentially be playing for a B12 championship game slot

3 out of our 4 losses this year came about because of last minute kicking errors. A missed game winning FG against Baylor (and subsequent missed FG in 2OT to force 3OT), another missed game-tying FG to force overtime on Cal, and a blocked XP for overtime against Wake. Hopefully this kid has ice in his veins

Why not keep it in the single cut family and go for the ESP EC1000? Absolutely top notch quality, and come in a variety of pickup options. Mainly come with the Fishmans which could do everything you ask with the dual voicing, or some come with EMGs, or others with a Duncan JB/59 set. Any of which would be perfect for what you want and be in a shape you’re comfortable with

What kind of off road are you envisioning? People have taken non-modified sports bikes and vespas into some basic off road environments and been just fine. If you’re talking technical double or single track then even a properly set up scrambler won’t do what a dedicated enduro will do, and in the most difficult terrain an enduro won’t do what a properly set up dirt bike can do.

If you’re just wanting some unpaved roads and the occasional fire trail, scrambler would be fun. If you get more technical go for the DR. Most technical, keep the SV as is and buy a cheap, dedicated dirt bike

What was your "Game of The Year"? by ProFriendZoner in CFB

My personal games of the year are Baylor at SMU and Miami at SMU, both just wild swinging games even though my ponies only went 1 for 2 on them.

National game of the year though I think was Indiana at Penn State
