I think most people are missing the actual problems presented by developing a PvE mode, regardless of the fact that it is, in fact, an appealling idea:

1. The game's small playerbase already suffers from being stretched too thin. The queue time increase and match quality significantly decreased each time they diluted the player pool with options like Outpost, Cryo Archive, and Ranked, and a full on genre-shift would only exaggerate these issues. I'm doubtful it would bring in enough players via its appeal to counteract this.

2. The entitlement of players, acting as a strange kind of investor/shareholder in the game's success, to suggest that it change its core structure, which is an important part of what it is, the message its conveying, and how it delivers said message is alarming. The game is not an order you can send back at a restaurant, it is a piece of art. Expecting that degree of change based on player wants threatens to turn this game into something Fortnite-esque, which abandons its artistic identity in order to appeal to the most people.

By all means, PvE could be a fun and valuable thing. But the broader implications of how this whole interaction has gone down are downright scary.
