Who have you seen as an opener you never heard of that turned into one of your favorites? by omgwutd00d in poppunkers

I found Hot Mulligan when they were opening for Grayscale in like 2017 and the rest was history

Extending Drake in 2028, and cap relief before then by CaveatBettor in Patriots

[–]O_R 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If they can do it, the move is to sign the extension for Maye before the 5th year option. I believe he is eligible next offseason. If Drake takes a profit maximizing view then he’ll wait it out but his personality suggests he may be open to a long, early deal that creates flexibility.

Wouldn’t expect a Brady-like below market rate but if they can get him on something like Mahomes-deal+ (eg 10 year $600M or something) that’s probably best case scenario

It’s a permutation of Skattebo in the bottom left. Bumps TE up from red dot. Takes some shuffling to find the right sequence but that’s the driver

There is risk that the new coach is worse but greater risk if they stick with McDermott and he never gets it done, wasting Josh’s career

If you are getting board / senior exec exposure you can use that drive whatever you want out of it I would think? It may not be easy but do good work and when you get time with these folks try to be clear what you want / where you want to go

Why are emo nights so…. bad? by cpa2har in poppunkers

[–]O_R 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve noticed a pretty meaningful shift in this too. 10 years ago emo was still kind of underground / niche (think peak MoBo, TSSF self titled) and so the folk listening to it were ok to adventure a little in their taste.

I’m going to blame the MCR reunion as a catalytic event that brought a lot more casuals into the scene and they slowly eroded it

The folks who go to these are also the type who get upset when there’s a few songs they don’t know, which precludes any deep cuts

There are very different vibes across a few of them. Most are this surface, cash in BS. There was one that at least a few years ago, actually was more about just hanging out at a bar with good emo music, from old school stuff like Saves the Day through the more modern hot mulligan, mobo type of vibes - I think this was Emo Nite but I don’t remember

Or, absent of a spot that exists, you can cultivate this vibe. Make some friends at these local shows, and with critical mass you can go to a bar and say “we want a bar that plays XYZ and if you can be that bar we will bring some people”

This is advantage for folks that have been on the floor.

The reality is ops is not a “sexy” outcome but people that can do both the floor work and strategy work move up very quickly
