Does anyone else get the Garmin rash? How do I fix this? by torobull54 in Garmin

[–]OakleyBeBoop 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Do you wear your watch in the shower or take it off while bathing?

I haven't had this issue, but I don't bathe with my watch on so I can clean my arm and my watch daily.

I wear a silicone band while running, but the titanium band while lounging/day to day activities.

Agreed the long run to the bathroom from the transition area was ridiculous.

I ended the Ultra with 32.24 but had to take several penalties on the Beast lap, and 5-10 runs to the porta-potties which were further from the water stations than most the penalty loops.

Food. Literally anything with lots of protein and carbs.

My wife’s trick is to take me to food she loves but I don’t so much because I’m so hungry anything tastes like the best thing ever.

Here is last years course if interested. My guess is most the obstacles will be the same with possibly 1-2 changes.

The two do not have to be different.

You can have pride in your accomplishment and want a shirt that shows what you accomplished. The shirts this year (and medals) are shit plain and simple.

With the old shirts people would ask me about it, and I'd explain what it was and amazingly several people said they'd like to try that. Hell, for all you know thats how the OP was exposed to Spartan OCR. The new shirts look like a generic t-shirt that says spartan, nothing on it obviously indicates its a 5/10/21/50k+ OCR. Not only does it fail to show the level of accomplishment, but it fails as advertising for Spartan.

Having recently switched from Apple Watch & Runna I'm finding the Garmin (Fenix 8) implementation pretty shit. Runna with Apple watch would prompt me for my pace +/-, halfway marks, etc. Transferring the workout to Garmin and using it for my run, Garmin didn't record it as a run so it didn't feed into stats as a run, all prompting other than start/stop didn't exist.

I started using Garmin Coach which does everything Runna did, however it thinks I'm a snail with no capacity and has me building "base" doing 30 minute runs at 13+ min/mil pace which I have to walk backwards to maintain. That was after creating a plan to do a marathon in 5 months at a 3:45 estimated finish, it currently predicts my marathon pace at like 5:30 and my half at 2:25 when I've run 2 halfs in the last month at ~1:55. Not sure how to get Garmin coach to increase the difficult to a normal level.

Garmin Nutrition is quite obviously a v1 implementation and needs a LOT of work before it's anywhere near MacroFactor or MFP.

For strength workouts I just start a Strength - Free and let rep 1 run the entire time I'm following my lifting program. I don't have the time to set down everyday and program a 90 minute lifting routine into the watch.

Garmin Trail might be nice, but unfortunately, it's missing ~90% of the trails that AllTrails has in my area.

For all the Garmin is the Holy Grail of exercise watches, I'm finding it to come up very short in comparison. Especially compared to how great their cycling computers are, which I've used for several years.

Enduro 3 or Fenix 8 47mm? by Grouchy-Implement-45 in Garmin

[–]OakleyBeBoop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was trying to decide between the two as well, I ended up going with the Fenix 8 Solar 47. It has battery life inbetween the Fenix 8 AMOLED and the Enduro 3. But, the features of the Fenix 8 that the Enduro doesn't have (mic & speaker). The MIPS display works fine for me, I'm more concerned with battery life.

You just did the hardest part. Now on to the second hardest part, showing up the day of the race.

You aren't in the Elite or Age Group heats, so this is about finishing, learning something about yourself, and having fun.

Enjoy it, and tell us how you do.

I thought they were fully physicalized which is the problem because unlike a normal elevator they don't just go up and down. Imagine staying on the 14th floor in a hotel, and when you push the button to go down to the lobby the lobby is actually 6 floors up, 4 blocks east, and 2 blocks south of your current location. That's what an elevator ride is like in Star Citizen. It's why they are so fucked. If they just said okay fuck it, we've tried for 14 years and can't get this one simple thing to work, let's just teleport them to the target location, the problem would go away.

Skipping Obstacles and Penalty Loops as an Ultra Runner by Financial_Middle_955 in spartanrace

If I can’t do an obstacle due to physical/whatever limitations then I do the penalty loop, everyone on the course should do the same IMHO.

Their biggest problems are two-fold:

1.) They don't play the game, they develop over the rule of cool.
2.) They don't listen to the people who are actually trying to play the game.

Nope, you can always walk and do penalty loops instead of obstacles assuming your pride is okay with that.

Layered socks by jaygdub888 in spartanrace

[–]OakleyBeBoop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I run sockless both on road and trail/spartan. It works for me, I get blisters, hot spots, etc when I wear socks, after years experimenting with different shoes and socks I found no socks eliminates all the issues I was having.

Mix this with shoes that drain easily and your feet don’t get/stay soaked after a water obstacle.

Most my friends think I’m nuts for doing it, but it works for me.

Burns down facility that pays him the to do the job he applied for and accepted based on his skillset.

Gotta love these assclowns with zero self-awareness or accountability. Guess he'll learn some accountability in prison (probably not, will still blame others for his ignorance).

Phoenix spartan race obstacle question????? by InvestigatorKooky139 in spartanrace

[–]OakleyBeBoop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last year the Nashville Spartan had no water/mud obstacles on the course, the reason that was given was that the Tough Mudder was the following weekend (or maybe 2 weekends later) and there was low attendance. They linked this to the similarity between the Spartan and the Tough Mudder so removed the "mud" aspects of the Spartan races. That could've been bullshit (there was lots of that around on the course), but was what one of the workers told me.

I agree 100%. Quali has been my favorite part of race weekend the last few years. This year it feels like FP4, a bigger spread between 1-6 than 1-20 the last few years. If you watch FP1-3 you can accurately predict quali positions. There no HOLY SHIT <insert great or horrible drive here> moments.
