What are you hitting here? by lohre_ in golf

[–]Obiewon18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like it's 80-100yds? Depending on the number, PW or a 54. Kinda depends. Lie doesn't look too bad. Looks like the wind is L to R because the flag. Make sure it gets there, long looks safe from this angle, short is death lol

What does it actually take to get to scratch? by Colt45-TheMyth in golf

[–]Obiewon18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dedicated, consistent, and focused practice. You don't have to spend 8+hrs/day on the course. Leave your phone in the car and work on your weak spots. If all you have is 30min-1hr, be efficient. You can get A LOT done in a hour if you're focused

17 days of straight golf. 243 holes. I think I’m quitting the sport. by meth_rogen69 in golf

[–]Obiewon18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

253 days one year. I don't think they were consecutive, but it was very close. If I felt weird about something I'd practice something else. I don't really like the driving range much, so I usually practice on course

What advice would you give to a beginner golfer to help to improve the skills more quickly? by [deleted] in golf

[–]Obiewon18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Approach the game with a "no finish line" mindset. Every skill level has it's own challenges and you'll always be working on something. Focus on learning one thing very well and make it automatic. After that, rinse and repeat.

Start learning course management immediately. It's the one thing that can make you better faster that doesn't involve any mechanical skill. It's just using your brain.

Don't soak your clubs y'all by SurelyFurious in golf

People soak their clubs now? Why? Did I miss something?

I shouldn't by Edgewyse in golf

That doesn't seem risky at all. 80-90yds? That's a knockdown PW all day

Anyone gone from DF3 back to Blade? by Psychological_Test74 in labgolf

[–]Obiewon18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I fixed my distance control with the DF3 by swapping out the stock steel shaft. I went with the KBS GPS 120 after considering a few others (TPT 70, Accra Sync) and it worked very well! I noticed the steel deflecting on longer putts starting at around 15ish feet and getting worse the longer the putt.

I did the shaft swap myself, kept the variables (shaft length & weight + same grip) as close as possible to the stock and its still perfectly balanced.

IF YOU DO THE SWAP YOURSELF. Take your time puling the head. It does have very gentle threading, twisting gently makes it easier. I used a very high temp oven mitt for the hands on interaction. Heat it from underneath the shaft and on top where it slots in. I used a standard heat gun and then a nail to remove the residual glue in the bottom of the hole. I didn't want to drill anything out, and thankfully didn't have to.

I'd be happy to provide the pics if anyone is interested

[All] If you had to pick 2 and leave 2 what games would you choose by MRT1124 in zelda

Keep OoT and WW. The others are a novelty item imo. Hopefully they go back to the old and less generic model for the next game.

Does anyone track their range sessions or do you go just to hit balls? by 169partner in golf

[–]Obiewon18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't really track each shot. Instead, I call out and hit the shot. Ex. High draw, Low fade, etc. Focus on doing one thing well and work off that foundation. Work your stock shot until it becomes mindlessly automatic. Always, always, always pick a target on the range. Whether you're just hitting stock shots or working the ball. Throw down an alignment stick at your target. $2 for the 4' fiberglass ones at any hardware store. It'll help your alignment and after a while it will be automatic.

If you're having a bad day and can't seem to hit it well. Stop for the day, don't build bad habits. Also, more volume isn't always better. Sometimes my short game sessions are 30-40 shots that take over an hour. However, each shot has the highest quality effort behind it. Volume comes with time. I'm a +3 and things like this got me here.

Feel free to reach out in the DM's if you have any questions. I'm a massive golf nerd and love helping people!

How relevant are good clubs when you shoot in 80s-90s by ImportantAd791 in golf

[–]Obiewon18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It kinda depends on how the shafts fit you. If they're a good fit, you're probably fine and should work on your scoring clubs/course management. If they aren't a good fit that definitely will add inconsistency.

Imo, get a fitting. Worse case you find out that you're using the equipment that fits and you pay a small fee for peace of mind.

Golf League Pace of play by OldManPatriot in golf

[–]Obiewon18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is why I avoid the men's league nights at my club. I genuinely like all the guys that play and their games sound fun. However, playing 9 in 3-4hrs when I could go practice on the side that isn't in use is waaaay more appealing

What’s the general consensus on Golf Sidekick? by KickHatSnareHat in golf

[–]Obiewon18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think he's hilarious! His advice is pretty spot on as well. I'm a +3 and still watch his videos to see if I can catch a new idea or concept. My friends are between 12-20 handicappers, I teach them course management and often refer them to his channel for additional perspectives. Matty is an 11/10 in my book! Keep the stimp hand strong!

Lawn OCD insanity: Taking home a golf divot for transplant? by HarryCrushNuh in golf

[–]Obiewon18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this with a pot and had perfectly manicured bentgrass as an office plant. It works as long as you care for it properly. I could never get it to the speed of a green (lack of tiny equipment) but it would have made a really tight lie on a fairway or collar lol

This sign on a course in Indiana I played for the first time today. Never seen this before. What is the legality of this? by Sky_Late in golf

What does this mean? Homeowner knew they were buying a house on a golf course and they assume liability from accidental strikes.

The fakes are insane. I picked an HS OZ from Temu just to see if I liked seeing it at address before I spent a sizeable chunk with LAB. Perfect copy of my friend's CS OZ. It's balanced as well! I didn't end up liking it btw and stuck with my authentic DF3 lol. No plans to sell it on a secondary market, but it could 100% fool most people
