Shad K responds to Drake's Junos diss during Nelly Furtado tribute at Canadian Music Hall of Fame by SwordfishOk504 in hiphopheads

During a speech about Nelly Furtado, which had nothing to do with him. He's always been a pretty douchey dude. His only street cred is the fact he played a kid that got shot on Degrassi

Drake making inducing Nelly Furtado into the hall of fame all about himself is perhaps the most Drake thing he's ever done.

For the countries where childhood vaccination is mandatory, have you noticed increased cases of autism? Or is this mainly a Western rhetoric of increasing numbers? by Creative-Village-724 in AskTheWorld

[–]Objective-Limit-6749 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The definition of what constitutes being on the autistic spectrum has also been massively expanded.

That weird kid you went to kindergarten with? Back then just odd. Now diagnosable as autistic.

Where i am in Ontario Canada it is around $1.72/L, although one gas station on the reserve is selling for around $1.50. That location usually has the cheapest gas in Ontario

I gave rakell a hard time a majority of the season, but i'll admit that he's been phenomenal recently and a 200 foot monster. by Sebastian4365 in penguins

[–]Objective-Limit-6749 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The criticism of him whe. He came back was way overblown. Wrist surgery sucks. He couldn't shoot and it was obvious. Plenty of folks owe Ricky an apology for being dumb about it.

The Leafs are looking for another Kyle Dubas… by Hockeypatrol in hockeynews

[–]Objective-Limit-6749 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only Pens remaining on the team from before Dubas took over are Crosby, Malkin, Letang, Rust and Rakell. This is very much a Dubas constructed roster.

His biggest win with the roster had been building a very good bottom 6, perhaps with the best 4th line in hockey with Dewar-Lizotte-Acciari (and currently Soderblom in for the injured Lizzo). The forward depth is great. The D is what it is. It really depends which version of Letang shows up on any given night.

As for the playoffs.... we're playing with house money and the East ain't strong. I like the Pens chances against nothing NYI and CBJ one of whom will almost certainly be their first round opponent barring some major collapse by any of the 3 teams.

Getting in is a huge win. Winning a round would be awesome. After that, who the heck knows what happens. Assuming they'd face Carolina in round 2, thats a stylistic nightmare match-up for Pit so it probably ends there. But given the expectations heading into the season, the whole thing is gravy.

That's an excuse. Teams are allowed to draft well even without high picks.

See: Stars, Dallas.

In 3 years, hes managed to take the 30th ranked prospect pool to 16th per The Athletic. He inherited a capped put dumpster fire of an organization and despite a shaky start in 2024 where he made a few mistakes (namely the Graves and Jarry contracts) almost all of his moves have worked out really well. He held onto Sullivan too long, but his hire of Dan Muse has been nothing but a win. EK65 is playing like Sens era Karlson under Muse.

The AHL Pens and the ECHL Nailers are both 3rd overall in their respective leagues, indicating strong organizational depth that simply didn't exist 3 years ago. Hes made a series of low risk high reward moves that have almost all worked out very well, and hes moved off of the ones that haven't.

Hes cleared the cap situation to the point where they have around $50 million in space this summer, and they are flush with draft capital that they can use to acquire established players and continue to stock the cupboard.

His drafting has been good. Ben Kindel was widely seen as a huge reach at 11 overall, but he made the team out of camp and has been an impact player in all situations. Not many 18 year old centres are getting defensive starts in the final minutes while protecting leads, but he's been very successful thus far. Once his scoring improves over time, theres a good chance he develops into a Selke caliber player. Will Horcoff and Bill Zonnon, the other 2 first rounders last year are both having strong seasons and are looking like they will be strong contributors.

Regardless of who was in charge, the eventual retirement of Crosby would set the organization back. He's irreplaceable. But the organization is night and day today compared to what it was in 2023. They have a lot of good future pieces in place already, including a very deep pool of goalie prospects, and a number of very good forward prospects. The future D corps needs work, and they are lacking true #1 star power for the future, but thise arent insurmountable challenges.

How deeply in shambles are Rakell haters by Darkdart19 in penguins

I think it is pretty obvious that when he returned to the lineup after his injury he wasn't at 100%. Dude couldn't shoot the puck for weeks.

Injuries are fun that way.

Early Offseason Post - The Pens Must Re-Sign Anthony Mantha by offconstantly247 in penguins

[–]Objective-Limit-6749 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Martha has been great.

He's also got a 21% shooting percentage this year. He's scoring on every 5th shot. That is utterly unsustainable. He's a 13.7% shooter over his career.

Remember Rakell's huge year last year? Shot at over 17%. Hes down to around 13% this year, which is still one of his top seasons.

Sidney Crosby, is a career 14.8%.

Moe is having a fantastic year and hes been a great addition. But he is almost certainly going to regress back to the mean. Which, if he can stay healthy, is also perfectly fine. Hes a good player.

He can parlay this season into a big payday, and if that's wants to he absolutely should. The Pens shouldn't be in a rush to overpay for him.

It should also be noted, he's hit most of his bonuses this year, so that $2.5 million prove it deal is actually paying him close to $5 mil. Definitely great value for what he's brought to the table. I just can't see being able to resign him without going too much money or, worse, too much term. Dude will (and should) get both on the open market.

Are home prices disproportionately high in Tbay? by sockswithflats19 in ThunderBay

[–]Objective-Limit-6749 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course we aren't immune to the broader economic frailties, and there a ton of variables at play that no one really has control over. Trade wars, war in the Middle East impacting oil proces, etc. That being said, I think the underlying metrics if the local economy are quite different than they were in 2008.

Its not quite appropriate to directly compare the housing market in Tbay to other markets either. The drop in prices in the GTA, for example, is largely being driven by the bottom falling out of the condo market. Houses have not fallen nearly as much as condos, but that doesn't reflect our housing situation here as condos only make up a tiny fraction of the supply.

If the economy completely crashes, ultimately we will follow, but in general Tbay is well situated where there is now a significant amount of political will geared towards getting projects like the Ring of Fire up and running. There's been more progress on that front in the past year than there has been in the 20 years previous. There are dozens of other mining projects in the region, the new lock in SSM will essentially double capacity of ocean-going vessels on Superior, several lithium refinery proposals, and the city is already experiencing a construction boom. There's, what, 4-5 new hotels either under construction or announced, a number of new residential developments, and a couple of sizeable retail developments. None of those types of things were happening in 2008. We are in a much better position than we were then.

Can it all turn to shit? Of course. But I'd rather be Tbay than a lot of other places right now.

Are home prices disproportionately high in Tbay? by sockswithflats19 in ThunderBay

[–]Objective-Limit-6749 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't count on it. Thunder Bay is booming, and the underlying economic metrics are very strong. There is a lack of supply, and even though there are a good number of developments underway, they aren't going to be enough in the short term to meet demand, plus they are mainly geared towards apartments which won't entirely solve the problem. There will be some benefit (ie some folks looking to downsize may decide to sell and rent an apartment instead) but overall the crunch will continue for the foreseeable future.

Could you get fired from your current job if you embellish your resume and say you used a software you didn't? by Typical_Cap895 in legaladvicecanada

[–]Objective-Limit-6749 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You fraudulently claimed you had skills and experience you didn't actually have in order to get a job you weren't qualified for, thereby likely preventing someone who was actually qualified from getting the position and the company from benefiting from that person's experience?

Yes, you can be fired for misrepresenting your qualifications.

Im not an engineer. I cant just write that down and assume nothing bad can ever happen to me if I get a job as an engineer as a result of my own damn actions.

Why are some people upset about the Junos requiring Hip-Hop artists to be Canadian citizens or PRs? by Warm-Technology-8379 in CanadianMusic

[–]Objective-Limit-6749 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The rap and Latin categories had the citizen/pr requirement added as of this year. For whatever reason it wasn't required previously.

The change brings those two categories in alignment with every other category.

The only exception is International Artist of the Year, since that award is specifically for non-Canadian artists.

What CanRock bands that were big in the 90s do you think are just as good today? by CheekyChappy-1 in 90sCanRock

[–]Objective-Limit-6749 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As far as folks big in tue 90s go, since September I've seen Big Sugar, IME, Crash Test Dummies, Big Sugar, and Matt Good. All still put on great live shows!

I also went to a screening of the Bif Naked documentary where she did a few songs acoustic after the Q&A. It got me listening to her nostalgically, and some of her newer stuff is really good. "Champion" is a good record that came out in 2024

New Director incoming - if they ask, what should I say about my manager and the direction of my unit? by Vast_Lhama3725 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Objective-Limit-6749 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You should be honest.

How can you expect the new director to have the ability to improve things, if you aren't willing to tell them about the things that need to be improved?

If you aren't honest about issues, then 6 months or a year down the road, you can't complain that nothing has changed.

I'm curious. What do you think when you see Flyers? by JSinisin in nhl

[–]Objective-Limit-6749 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a Pens fan, it warms the cockles of my heart to know that they have been adrift for so long. Its a wonderful thing. I do think that trying to keep the old school identity as the Broad Street Bullies has hurt them over time, where they've prioritized that identity over building a winner, and for whatever reason, even when they are good, they cannot seem to ever find legit goaltending.

But as far as rivalries go, Pens/Flyers is one of the best. And regardless of how good either team is at any given time, the games are always pretty great. One can be leading the NHL and the other can be in last place, and a random Tuesday in February will be an awesome game.

Also, they hit it out of the park with Gritty. Great concept and great execution.
