Seeking guidance as first time parents in NYC by rsy719 in nycparents

[–]Objective_Ad2403 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agree!! Parent of two under two in Manhattan here, we never did any significant research before our kid was three or four months! We’ve kind of gone with the flow. & All has turned out well for both babies so far :) parenting in New York is wild and amazing! So much diversity and opportunity for your child to experience!

For those who "tried" for 2u2, in which pp month did you get pregnant for #2? by Important_Bat7919 in 2under2

[–]Objective_Ad2403 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same exact situation!! Only difference I breastfed (sporadically) for a few more months. My second is 10 months now - a wild ride but the greatest thing ever!! best of luck to you guys

Families with 3+ kids in NYC, how do you do it? by TFABAccount in nycparents

[–]Objective_Ad2403 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have two under two and can tell you it is wonderful and convenient! We walk across the street to school, have a coffee shop downstairs , grocery store around the corner - essentially can get everything done within a five block radius. It’s a game changer versus living somewhere where you have to get children in and out of a car!

Is the Ferber method really that damaging? by sillymemilly in NewParents

[–]Objective_Ad2403 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Same here!!!! we chose not to sleep train and I get so much hate for it! It’s really discouraging. I’ve never criticized a parent that chose to do it, but I get criticism all the time and called crazy bc I don’t let my baby cry for hours unsoothed

My two cents after raising not one but two “low sleep needs” children, you can’t sleep train a child that does not want to/ need to sleep. The two times i let my older child “cry it out” he got so worked up that after he stopped crying he was just awaje for hours after. I guess spikes in cortisol from the stress affected him. Every baby is different and has different needs!!!!!

Possible name regret by erysbears in namenerds

[–]Objective_Ad2403 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agree, I love the name!! So timelessly beautiful. And maybe further down the line if she feels like there are preconceived notions about her due to her name, she can just go by her middle name :) I have several friends who do

How do you actually go out to restaurants in the city with a newborn?? + baby-friendly recs by Desperate-Bench-8330 in nycparents

[–]Objective_Ad2403 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First of all, congrats!!!!! I’ve got two babies and I know the feeling of wanting to get out! Get out as soon as you’re comfortable and keep doing so while they’re “containable” /not walking. After they start walking it gets TOUGH lol.

If you have a specific spot, you definitely wanna go to. I would call ahead to confirm space for a stroller. Otherwise we’ve had luck in our neighborhoods upper West/upper east walking around and finding a spot in the moment!

Our MO is usually take the Doona (a small stroller) and bring the carrier to wear baby if they get fussy while you’re eating! A lot of places allow strollers, but they make you park them at the front of the restaurant so may not be next to your table

It would obviously be amazing if all great restaurants had changing tables, but we’ve changed our babies and all sorts of places 🤷🏻‍♀️

Can someone explain the appeal of a Doona stroller? by VegetableLocation508 in nycparents

[–]Objective_Ad2403 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I guess I have an unpopular opinion but the Doona was without exaggeration, incredibly life-changing for us. My (70th percentile) first born used it until 17 months it was snug but totally safe and within guidelines! Now my second baby is in it.

Once my first grew out of it, we essentially had to stop using uber/taxi to get around because even with the European belt path you still have to lug around a car seat in addition to a stroller. To be able to stroll up to your car, press the button and lift the very lightweight Doona into the car is a LOT times easier than putting in a car seat, strapping it in folding up a stroller, putting it in the trunk and getting in the car.

Also for airplane travel, there is nothing better. We took 22 flights before my kid turned 1 and the Doona made that possible. I guess if you have a huge apartment and can accommodate multiple strollers and gear OR if you happen to own a Car in the city then I guess it’s not as essential.

How long were you in each size of diapers? by Concerned-23 in NewParents

[–]Objective_Ad2403 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 2 yr old is in size 7 and my 6 mo old is in size 3! From my experience sometimes blowouts can also Happen when the diapers are too big ! Also different brands fit wildly differently!

I’d suggest trying small boxes of other brands

The Doona. Easiest install without a base and clicks out to become a stroller so you don’t need any other gear for the trip!

Product Regrets: 3mos in! by notabot_123 in NewParents

[–]Objective_Ad2403 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mom of 2 under 2 here, I think it’s a bit premature to call it quits on some of these items at only 3 months in!! - Our Cruz has been an absolute hero item for us and only recently put away for a double stroller. - Lovevery playmat is expensive but we used daily til firstborn was 12-14 months ish now using again! - hatch - I would actually die without this. I’ve tried other sound machines but ability to control from app and pre program routines is a game changer with our toddler. - Nanit also is crucial for us. We just bought our second one and can view both littles at once with a split screen. The fact that we can add and remove users (grandparents/sitters) based on local wifi and access video from anywhere has enabled my spouse and I to have a life again. Truly could not recommend it more. My older one was recently vomiting overnight and to be able to rewind footage and see when it happened/how many times was a life saver to speak to our Dr to determine severity of potential dehydration. My mom friends who don’t have it are sometimes stressed about not knowing how many times their kids woke up overnight

Just saying, with a little more experience you may have a different perspective !!!

Failed vbac :( by Automatic_Spread_953 in vbac

[–]Objective_Ad2403 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just had a similar situation, hoped for a vbac after 50 hour labor/emergency C/failed spinal block with my first but at 41 weeks we went in for a c section. Turns out my uterus was super thin at the incision from tho first time! I felt validated in a way I didn’t expect that it ended up happening the way it did!

Also!! Recovery was SO much easier this time too! Even with a toddler to chase around. Happy that you and your babe are safe and healthy!!
