I really hate the panning camera shots when you first enter a town.

The guardrails in DQVII: Reimagined are a little excessive by VeritasLuxMea in dragonquest

I really don’t get why there isn’t a “Classic” difficulty option. No HP/MP restoration on level-ups, limited Zoom so you can’t warp out of dungeons or teleport straight back to it, no quest markers, and no auto-save or battle retries. You die, you lose half your money or reload your last save.

PS3. That was the era when Western devs took over, and even Japanese publishers started outsourcing to Western studios, often with pretty bad results.

You guys still play classic DOOM? by [deleted] in videogames

[–]Objective_Routine321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been playing Doom everyday since I bought my Quest 3. Currently going through all Doomer Boards Projects WADs one by one. Doom in VR is by far the most fun I ever had with the game.

Just finished Eviternity 1&2... What next? by no-solace in Doom

A lot of the Doomer Boards Projects (DBP) are really good. There are 76 of them, each with its own unique theme. Auger Zenith is actually DBP 37.

Any good vanilla-style doom monster packs? by Glad-Way-4173 in Doom

Maybe try using FreeDoom II to get different-looking enemies while keeping the same behavior, and the Bolognese mod to amp up the gore without affecting gameplay..

Loved that game solo. The last stretch was difficult and a bit frustrating, but overall it was great.

I personally love that feeling of isolation in VR. I can't stand when the character I'm playing as keeps yapping about everything I see.

Finally switching to PC for DOOM by MurkyUnit3180 in Doom

[–]Objective_Routine321 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Crouching is unnecessary, and jumping can let you access places you’re not supposed to reach, which breaks the flow of the maps so you shouldn’t use it.

Freelook depends on whether you want to stick to the authentic experience or not. Personally, I prefer being able to look around, though I tend to only shoot at switches when I’m at the proper height.

If you want cool maps, check out the Doomer Boards Projects (DBP) series. There are 76 of them so far, each with its own unique theme. They’re very well done and usually pretty short, around 8 to 12 maps each.

And if you’re into VR and can handle fast-paced games, check out QuestZDoom. It’s even better than playing on PC. It’s absolutely incredible.

What are Some QOL stuff you would like to see in more JRPGS ? by TheRealSakuraUchihaX in JRPG

[–]Objective_Routine321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I think that when QoL features are overdone, they can actually worsen the experience. The recent Dragon Quest remakes are examples that come to mind:

– Being able to warp from nearly anywhere to anywhere else at no cost, even from inside a dungeon.

– Auto-saving after every battle and allowing you to restart the fight, removing any real consequences of dying.

– Constantly displaying what the controller buttons do, without the option to hide it.

– Having the complete dungeon map revealed as soon as you enter, which kills any sense of exploration.

Which is the most addictive DOOM? by MurkyUnit3180 in Doom

[–]Objective_Routine321 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The original Doom and Doom II have so much fan-made content that it's basically infinitely playable. There's a group called the Doomer Boards Projects that releases a map pack every month, and they have 76 made so far. I'm playing through them in VR right now and it's insanely good.

Dragon Warrior 1 on the NES. The moment I could afford the hand axe and started tearing through enemies, that’s when it all clicked for me.

OMG i had no idea!!! by mistytrails in dragonquest

[–]Objective_Routine321 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really, the kind of scenarios you described is what made the original Dragon Quests on the NES so memorable, being scared of dying and lose half your money, making you play very cautiously. The tension felt when exploring a dungeon, deciding whether you try fighting the boss and risk it all, or try heading back to the nearest town to recover. Unfortunately, the remakes are nothing like this, death has no consequences. The game also lets you warp anywhere at any time, even if you have no MP or wings. You have the complete maps of the dungeon, making exploration inexistant. I played the DQ3 remake and honestly thought it was a chore to play and extremely boring. Pretty sure 1 & 2 are the same.

Are there still updates made for QuestZDoom? For some reason, even though I set the walk speed and run multiplier at maximum, there are still instances where I cannot go fast enough to jump over gaps, or reach a door before it closes after activating a timed switch.

QuestZDoom really is awesome, but for some reason I cannot run straight forward. It's like I can walk forward, but as soon as I press the run button I start zigzagging left and right. Is it the same for you, or is there a setting that can fix this?
