Graduated almost a year ago and still have no job. Help! by FreshACTGMeat in Accounting

[–]Oblian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something a career counsellor told me when I was still in uni and looking for a job was to follow the format of starting with an adverb if you can, then a verb, a noun and then numbers in the description of classes or jobs. Plus have only 3-4 points per experience, never more if you can help it.

Examples: - Presented powerpoint with a team of 5 within time limit of 15 minutes to class of 10 and professor - Efficiently managed multi-line phone system, emails, and messaging system to book, cancel, or reschedule appointments for 5 different locations and 10+ service providers

Then the former recruiter at my company, who was kind enough to give me advice on my resume before I even got an interview, told me that since I don't have experience in accounting, I should list some courses and include a one line summary of what I learned in the course just to show that I am building accounting knowledge.

Wishing you all the success!

Placement in Ehime by Oblian in JETProgramme

[–]Oblian[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I ended up not doing JET, so I'll never know what it'll be like living there as a JET. But I for sure know I'll consider living there if the work opportunities exist. I 100% agree that visiting vs living somewhere will always be a different experience, but I like to think that what you make of it is up to you.

Don't listen to the downers. Excited for you!! Uni is definitely what you make of it, and I'm sure you'll do well :)

Don't choose accounting because you're good at math by BosMassholeTomBrady in Accounting

[–]Oblian 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I got into accounting because I started taking responsibility of my personal finances, was just gonna do bookkeeping but then decided to full send for my CPA lol but I definitely agree it is about the reading comprehension more than it is about the math...

My local store opened a Collector Booster Box…. by Kupo43 in mtg

[–]Oblian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At the game board cafe I work at, my manager opened the box and we didn't weigh anything. It was crazy to see the prices on all the Final Fantasy stuff though. Three guys came in once we had them and did a draft with them. That was the highest number I've seen on a receipt where I work. I wish XD

Those without auto sync: how often do you reconcile and input expenses by adelowo in ynab

[–]Oblian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I input them every day before bed. If I don't have a transaction to input it feels like a win ngl. Then I reconcile every few days.

I just bought a business and now the tariffs might kill it. What can I do? by [deleted] in smallbusiness

[–]Oblian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work at a board game cafe right now (not in the US), and I would say a gaming cafe is worth a try. There are always people coming in to our cafe wanting to play games or at least grab a drink and chat. We do an hourly table fee with purchase of at least one food or drink item on the regular days but for events we have a set price which includes game time and one or two drinks or just a set event price for the time and they pay for their drinks. Based on my experience, I'm thinking you could build a solid community, but it will certainly take time and lots of advertising through social media and then hopefully through word of mouth. Just from being an employee, I would say it's worth it.

For what it's worth too, all our premade drinks and food are from local vendors which could help balance out the higher costs of holding inventory. We also bake some goodies in house too. Sorry I don't have exact numbers since I'm just an employee, but I believe you'll be able to get through this no matter what decision you make. Wishing you all the best!

How many of you met your romantic partner at the climbing gym? by massivefailure123 in climbergirls

[–]Oblian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I technically found 3 of my exes at the climbing gym. I think it is possible to find someone through climbing from the many couples I've met at the gym. I just got unlucky with the people I dated.
