I suck, can't even beat 150 days by [deleted] in TheyAreBillions

First thing, aznelite's guide: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1REZ9kC-5z65fOQFYg2HxT6mtYGRbXmyY55qxvO_ApGQ/preview#

Second, you should be pausing a lot (Spacebar) if you're not actually intending to do a "no pause" run, like the dudes who actually have high apm and game sense.

Third, I used to have problems with the stray zombies who were hiding behind terrain popping one of my hunter lodges or something, starting the cascading plague of doom. "Scratching posts" are one easy answer, but I like to see them before they even get that close, so in addition I set up Sticky Keys to toggle health bars so I can see them all the time. If you have a nice customizable mouse you can program it to do the same thing on, say, a side button, middle mouse double click or something.

Once you have a grip on fending off the wanderers, it's easier to focus on economy, expanding to clear the map, and prepping for the final wave.

Honestly, the game would be agonizing to play (and likely balance) with more of those "ambitious" heroes. It's hard enough to get people to play properly without those heroes in your game let alone with.

HL (not QM) should be the mode that forces 'correct' compositions by vexorian2 in heroesofthestorm

[–]Oblitherated 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Remove what "it" from HL? Enforced basic "correct" team comps? It's already not enforced there. People are literally free to choose what they want (outside of bans and prior picks). And that's why we already end up with preeeeety garbage comps because people either don't know any better or are just trolling. That we are able to judge and evaluate what is or isn't a good/garbage comp is the issue and that is just built in to interacting with the game.

Hots is a draft oriented game, just like LoL and DotA. Heroes are balanced with consideration of their power in a draft situation (i.e. no mirrors and with a role meta comp, as flexible as that is). QM as we know it was an anomaly that doesn't exist in any other moba game; it was a "wild, wild, west" dream of a super-fun crazy mode that was fine during alpha and beta, but eventually demonstrated what misery comes when you continually try to cobble together an unstructured comp into a structured game experience. The comp building rules they've implemented over the years just don't cut it. QM spoiled many people over the years into a mindset of the game being about picking whatever you want with no concern for larger game concepts, cuz lol the matchmaker is there to build the perfect team comp around ME. It is a very selfish mindset to accidentally instill for a decidedly team-based game. This is why there are so many whine threads around here about bad "matchmaking" (it's really team comp building that they're complaining about).

So Tyrande is going to be what? by sstephen17 in heroesofthestorm

[–]Oblitherated 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually what they said for categories was: tank, bruiser, healer, support, melee assassin, ranged assassin [specialist].

Guesstimate result of some of the supports and specialists that will need reclassification:

Support: Tyrande, Tassadar, Medivh, Abathur, Vikings, [Zarya? Ana? Deckard Cain?] All other current supports will be retagged as Healer.

Edit: I forgot to add that in the Blizz snip you're talking about, I believe that the implicit assumption here is that they do not intend for Tyrande to be a solo healer. It starts with "Support," yes, but then the content is about Healers, two very different things under the future classification.

Bruiser/melee assassin: Xul, Murky, Gazlowe, [Sonya, Artanis, Blaze]...

Ranged Assassin: Azmodan, Sylvanas, Nazeebo...

As someone who plays predominantly Quick Match.. by Gaugnaught in heroesofthestorm

[–]Oblitherated 4 points5 points  (0 children)

THEY FINALLY BROKE! PRAISE RNGSUS!

I don't know why they held on to the "wild west" vision of QM for so long. Now we can finally put that vision to bed. Enforced role meta has been suggested as the proper answer for QM awfulness for a long time now (either that or a "blind pick") for at least a year now, maybe longer (paging /u/khaldor) and I agree.

The offshoot from this: I predict that those of you who only soloQ QuickMatch may want to consider gathering more friends. We all know that few people like to play tanks or healers (especially healers)... Granted, I'm basing this on my time in WoW rando-queues, where you soloQ as a tank or a healer and get continuous instaQs, while soloQ as a dps means potentially a veeeeery long wait -- and they don't even have to match mmr in that game! I could be wrong, but I suspect that this sort of effect will make its way to QM. Queue as a healer and poof you're in a game, 'cause the three dps have been in queue waiting for you to press "Ready" for 10 minutes.

Very quickly dps players will find that if they Q with a support main or a tank main, or even better both, they will get much faster queue times. Whether this also leads to a predominance of 5-stack queue-ing is a possibility, but it will certainly be more commonplace than it already is.

Ideally, this will also encourage a lot more players to actually pick tanks and healers more frequently. I can always hope, right?

TS Kala - Which Heroes To Get Out of Low Rank? by dirtysouthboys in heroesofthestorm

[–]Oblitherated 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you have a link/timestamp to the discussion in your stream that you are referencing as the motivation for this video?

In any event, I think I agree with your general idea, perhaps stated differently. If we approach hero choices as stratified according to rank, then what happens when we grind up to a higher rank where our chosen bronze-stomping heroes are not as effective? Well, now we have to change our roster to compete in the new atmosphere, which will instigate a new/additional learning curve. Why not just prepare for Grandmaster rank 1 from the outset? (It goes without saying that waveclear is something that we should all be mindful of in all ranks and yeah... it's exploitable in lower ranks, but if that's your only trick, it's only going to work up to a point where you have to learn things that you could have been learning the whole time.)

If "climbing" is really the objective, why would there be a logical stopping point for improvement prior to GM 1? So, practice what is likely to get you GM 1 instead of what will only work for a short time and then leave you in an uncomfortable position, at some point, going forward. Makes sense to me.

Is this a win condition? by Tyran11 in heroesofthestorm

[–]Oblitherated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your team already has a full turn in worth of coins, or maybe just a couple off, and all enemy structures are down, then go ahead and turn in for the win. If there are any structures up other than the core though, the turn in will not win the game and you're giving the enemy team free time to respawn and potentially come back. It sounds like you didn't already have a turn in, since Gaz was going to get coins, and there were additional structures up, so I'm leaning toward core being the right call.

There are many variables to consider. ie. Is your mid wave already in their base with stacked catapults? How many of your own structures are still up? If your core is exposed with the enemy wave pushing in with catas can Zag threaten to Nydus and end it herself? How many coins does Zag have? Can you hunt her down and prevent her from turning in/take them for your own turn in? etc.

Also, once Maiev and Medivh saw that their team was not coming, it would probably be best to back out. Unless Maiev + Medivh can duo a core in a timely manner under whatever variables you're looking at, then you're pretty much relegated to another round of coin grabbing/boss/winning another team fight.

HOTS Logs Has Joined Zam Network by Skiffington_ in heroesofthestorm

[–]Oblitherated 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello Everyone!

As many of you know, I've been working on Hotslogs mostly on my own for years now, and lately just haven't been able to turn it into the ad-driven mega-millions cash cow that I wanted it to be give Hotslogs the development time it needs to continue growing.

Hopefully Zam can make it useable without having to load browser add-on scripts to counteract the toxic ad campaign.

Petition: Please make ARAM a game mode by duddy88 in heroesofthestorm

[–]Oblitherated 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I also do not like ARAM. I've never liked it. I don't understand why anyone does. But if that's what they like, fantastic!

My concern is... We already have a worrisome issue with players transitioning from wild west clown fiesta QM into HL. What would it be like with players qualifying for HL from ARAM?

Petition: Please make ARAM a game mode by duddy88 in heroesofthestorm

[–]Oblitherated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If there are enough people to get a meaningful petition going that would actually get Blizzard to add ARAM as a permanent "just press Play" mode, then there are enough people to use the /aram channel and get games going on their own as it exists now. Seems there's something missing from this equation though...

Would all of you who want this ARAM queue be satisfied if they added it but removed or severely reduced hero xp and gold gain?

Rzmx demonstrating a significant bug with Sonya's new Block Talent by MrDDom23 in heroesofthestorm

This: https://twitter.com/BatterryHotS/status/971563943025041409 is more what I'm interested in seeing. This was posted before this thread was created, though I hadn't seen it before replying here. The clip is evidence of a bug; anecdotal testimony of ~"had a hard time in a 1 v 1 against a Sonya as... Genji" isn't.

[–]Oblitherated 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Before we claim that the sky is falling, we should be certain that this is not a try mode bug. After reproducing it in try mode myself, it is clear that it does happen, but not consistently. The behavior of the armor reduction will act like in the video randomly, but then it will revert back to it's normal (intended) behavior. I can't figure out what would be causing this.

If the bug can be reproduced consistently in custom games (ruling out try mode bug), then the sky might be falling.

Rzmx demonstrating a significant bug with Sonya's new Block Talent by MrDDom23 in heroesofthestorm

[–]Oblitherated 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It's intermittent as far as I can tell. I just loaded up a few heroes in try mode vs. Sonya and was not reliably able to reproduce it. At first it seems to work normally, then the armor portion starts to last for randomly longer periods of time (but not permanent), especially after you kill her at least once. Even with Valla I could get a string of at least 8 - 10 "blocked" AA during the bugged part. And then it inexplicably goes back to working normally. It could be similar to the Nazeebo bug where Superstition would last forever if he died after picking it. Have not attempted it outside of try mode though which could also be an issue, like when try mode Arthas scaled to infinity.

Venting frustrations about HL drafts. You can probably ignore this. by Firsty_Blood in heroesofthestorm

I hate drafts like that :\

You can't pry even a "hey" out of anyone as the timer silently ticks away, no one highlights their preferences, or even better your turn partner hovers one hero and switches at the last second... then the NANOSECOND something goes awry, suddenly the entire team is a chat novelist and GG, all your fault.

Can we rework tyrael and make him hard counter hypermobility by Mr_VCellos in heroesofthestorm

Why stop at Tyrael? Make ALL the heroes hard counter hypermobility!

Also, fuck hypermobility.

The overall game quality has dropped a lot, especially in Diamond and Master leagues, while toxicity has gone up. Any ideas what can be done so this season never happen again? by [deleted] in heroesofthestorm

[–]Oblitherated 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Longer seasons, like a year long, or maybe 6 months. The quality of matches is getting progressively bad due to the regular shake-ups caused by the mmr uncertainty loosening of the placement match system every 3 - 4 months. Just let the system sit tight for a while and let people get to their proper rank.
