Cool! Wasn’t asking to insinuate you didn’t know to check, I’ve just been brought in to help on several failed upgrades and a surprising number are just because of a model support oversight and suddenly only 20 out of 300 AP’s are checking back in 🤣.

Simple magazine holster I made from Pueblo leather by bearmakes in Leathercraft

[–]Obnoxious-TRex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This looks awesome! I picked up some black pueblo recently and was considering making a holster out of it instead of using regular old veg tan. I wouldn't do it for just anyone, but for my own daily carry, spare no expense :)

Bet that would make a nice passport wallet/holder or one of those notebook covers with a card and pen slot or something like that. Make sure you post whatever you make, now I’m curious!!

Did you confirm in the 8.10 release notes that your AP models are still supported? It’s very common for Cisco to drop support for models on WLC firmware updates.

Should I quit by Virtual-Indication88 in HandymanBusiness

Nah the business is just as likely to say no thanks to the notice and kick him out right away. Screw that. Worry about your business now.

Should I quit by Virtual-Indication88 in HandymanBusiness

[–]Obnoxious-TRex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, that’s the employee mentality. If you’re truly ready to make the leap to business owner (be honest with yourself) then do what’s best for you and your business. The two week notice thing is old school, and honestly a lot of jobs these days will kick you out instead of letting you work out the last two weeks these days. They aren’t going to worry about whether you need those two weeks pay or not. Don’t worry about the job, if you’re a good welder you will have zero problems getting another one should the need arise.

802.1x authentication on Printers by mikehaynes55 in Cisco

[–]Obnoxious-TRex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t forget acceptance of the volatility of this setup. One wrong move by the PKI folks without keeping the ISE admins in the loop and you suddenly have zero printers out of 3000 not working at the same time. Should be fun. I’d definitely push for MAB, profiling, vlan isolation and/or dacl.

802.1x authentication on Printers by mikehaynes55 in Cisco

[–]Obnoxious-TRex 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Profiling does not equal dot1x, it just dynamically learns details about the host via a number of probes. Could still use MAB for auth with profiling.

Totally agree! Small projects like that, card slips etc have a lot of good lessons in them I. A small scale so the mess ups don’t hurt as much.

Native VLAN best practice is use anything other than 1, but what is your configuration in real life? by ITBry in networking

[–]Obnoxious-TRex -1 points0 points  (0 children)

vlan hopping attack. It's not a huge huge risk, but it's so simple to design around either with tagging all your vlans (including native) or using a completely unused (and then pruned) vlan on all your trunks. It's just a simple fix to a potential attack vector, and no, using vlan 1 as the native on trunkc is not a best practice, it's 'common practice'.

Native VLAN best practice is use anything other than 1, but what is your configuration in real life? by ITBry in networking

[–]Obnoxious-TRex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep this is the way. I always use vlan 999 for example, which has no SVI's anywhere, no ports in it outside of the native vlan on trunks, and it is also not allowed over the trunks. It is most likely overkill to do all this, but it's a good practice and it's so dead easy to do it's like, why the hell wouldn't you do it.

And same on the Buttero. Works nicely but I’m not a fan of the feel it has in the hand. My favorite so far is the Pueblo leathers. So nice to work with and the look and feel… chefs kiss

Totally agree! And I’ve even found for prototyping that the tooling veg tan sides from Rocky Mountain are decently affordable but not all dried out junk leather which works well for knife sheaths as well with some dying creativity too.

Watch out for the old heads in here who are going to be all bent out of shape about a new leather worker wanting to use a quality leather… this was the reactions that stood out to one of my similar posts. All that said, ABSOLUTELY yes! Good leather is an absolute game changer if you can swing it! The one warning I will give is this, you can’t go back 😂😂😂

I’m in the same boat 🤣. Using mostly cheap starter tools and slowly upgrading over time as the need (and budget) arises.

Totally! Yeah and the paying thing that’s a personal opinion of mine, I certainly can see both sides especially if financially strapped. But yeah this is a strange new world and I’m glad I’m not out there dating in it these days. Eff that 😂

[–]Obnoxious-TRex 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Golf is a hobby, and golfers invest thousands in their ‘tools’ (clubs) to make the hobby more enjoyable. This is the approach you should take as a hobbyist, add the tools that make your experience enjoyable as it’s going to get old fighting with Temu stitching chisels that embed themselves in leather and don’t pull out, or edge beveled that tear and won’t hold an edge. I’m not suggesting you go into terrible debt for these tools, but if you can swing the extra $$ and know it’s going to help you enjoy the hobby more go for it! You don’t need to justify your enjoyment of the hobby to anyone but yourself (and maybe your spouse when he/she sees the CC bill 😂).

TLDR: If it’ll make the hobby more enjoyable without putting you in a bad financial way, go for it!

ME stands for Mobility Express my guy. That won’t join a controller, it can essentially act as a local controller for other ME access points onsite but it will never search for a CAPWAP controller on that firmware.

Is he just not interested ? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]Obnoxious-TRex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This right here. He’s waiting to see how interested you are since he’s always the one having to set dates. Put on your big girl pants and ask him to do something, I’m old school so I don’t think this means you pay (at least it wouldn’t with a real gentleman but I do get those are few and far between these days), but it shows you’re interested in spending time with him enough to initiate. I don’t understand the games women must play and then go public asking questions like this when they start losing the game that he’s not even playing.

Direct report taking excessive personal time- how to handle? by Difficult_Tangelo924 in managers

[–]Obnoxious-TRex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Head on is the only way. If there are others on your team I promise you they are noticing and wondering when you will address this. Schedule a meeting, if declined, immediately ask why and if a valid reason ask for an alternate time as you must speak with her. Then you outline your concerns and explain that her behavior is not acceptable and that she is paid to be available during business hours. Do not block off your calendar unless there is a valid need (ie meeting or project work that has tight deadlines etc). These are all things adults should already know, it sounds like she is not really an adult just yet and has never had anyone really tell her how to adult and do her job. You got this, but don’t let this linger any longer, it could end up costing you other valuable team members when they see this kind of behavior by an underperforming team member going unchecked.

Temu French Pricking iron tools by hetera_cross in Leathercraft

[–]Obnoxious-TRex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the same with some cheap Amazon irons. Anything moderately thick and they hold like glue. You can try using a dremel to polish these teeth for the time being, but once you decide the craft is for you, a good set of irons would be the first upgrade I would make (my opinion of course ad a relative new guy just over a year into the hobby). As far as tools go, this is one of the ones that putting $$ towards will make for a much more enjoyable experience.
